Contemporary Marching Band - Grade 3-4
Norwegian group A-ha took the American pop scene by storm in 1985 when Take On Me reached #1 thanks to an appealing style and also an innovative music video featured on MTV. Perfectly suited for the marching field, this arrangement contains all the drive and energy of the original.

HL03745610
Finally an arrangement by him that has a good trombone part!
+Paul Schmid Yeah!
Yup
I played this. It is way harder than you think. If you don't hit that high c just right, the judges are going to say some bad thing about it.
Michael Wooddell, yeah. Another thing that it makes you difficult is if you don't keep up the pulse or like getting lost, then you won't do good of your fingering. I had that problem in measures 13 to 23.
This song requires serious focus and work but the payoff is incredible
That high c is a make it or break it moment
Oven Ovensby agreed
You guys are lucky. My marching band is banned from competitions in my state because we high step and that apparently gives us an “unfair advantage”.
high c's on the trumpet while marching. just perfect... 😂🎺
Its not as hard as you think lol, just work on your range friend and it will sound fantastic. Try marching high Es and Fs RIP
gigan456 it's not too bad. But high f's and high g's are insane to play while marching. In the current show we're doing now, I have to play a high d while marching, which can sometimes be a pain, keeping in mind a 3C mouthpiece... 😂😂 but yeah my range without marching is pretty good. I can usually hit around a high g or double high a, but there's time when I've hit a double high b, which hurts like hell, and usually makes me a bit dizzy afterwards...
I march while playing a D too, its not that bad but insanely fun! At the end of our show I take an optional high F at the end which hurts my mouth but its my favorite part of the show! My range is about the same as yours except the double High Bs still got some work to do!
xJason33 nah fam I hit high f and g all day long m8 XD
I stopped playing trumpet for over a week because of our Thanksgiving break and our band teacher was absent. Now my range is so much lower now. I can't barely hit a high F or E. 😂
1:10 That was an amazing dynamic change! It was really well thought out and it’s just a great moment in the song. Hats off to the director!
R.I.P. Trumpet Players Lips
True
Couldn't agree more
Lol we are doing this for our show this year as a fun show because of corona and I play trumpet...
Facts
THABKYOUUUU FR this is the show this year and I’m like what did I do to deserve thisss
That chord at the end tho; Balance at its perfection
That P5 in the basses really does it for me. Simple pleasures.
Add a high F above Trumpet C and it’s even better
This arrangement just sounds super warm and cozy to me for some reason. I’m tempted to attribute it to the brass harmonies 🧐
-me, a clarinetist
Eb was a genius choice of key too. I mean it fits into ranges on the instruments with the optimal timber qualities for that vibe.
I play clarinet too I’m in 7th grade so I’m like trying to find all the melodies for the songs
@@Kgray.444 band is great. Ex clarinet player in college. Enjoy it while it lasts!
@@Kgray.444me too.
I guess ur in 8th grade now
Band Director: Woodwinds, It's not that hard!
Me, a woodwind: -_-
that high G is easy, it's the high B's you have to worry about
Maya Shah exactly we have like 20 plus keys to worry about
P.S. i can easily play Low C to High C 3 octaves up. the highest note on flute, minus the high b, which is a pain in the ass coz i forget it all the time
then why did you say "you've got to be kidding me"? i was probably a bit ruder than i intended
lol i bet he said "learn your scales"
The piccolo part is amazing! We get to float over the brass. It’s so fun! And challenging as ever, but so fun!
Where my fellow clarinetists at? I know y'all understand the pain of playing those notes at thirteen and then the chromatic sixteenth notes later. 😂
alexia robinson yes ma’am 🥺
nah the trill at 41, i faked that my whole season last year.
Bass clarinetist over here luv
I play alto sax but yes, 13 is a challenge.
As a clarinet, when I was testing this off my squad leader pretended I was actually playing 41, bc who can?! 😅
I love the French Horn part on this, a combination of all parts. Definitely fun when we play for Pep Music :D
Oh, man, I played French Horn back in my school days. Never stuck with it long enough to make it to marching band, but I will always have a soft spot for its dulcet tones.
us snare drummers are j chillin this whole song
After I saw this comment, I looked at snare, kinda laughed. Feel bad for keyboard percussion.
Until we get to minutes 0:53 💀💀
Tbh the entire line is kinda chillin. No triplets of any kind, and the big moment when the drumline should show off just a bit is just eighth notes
Went back and watched all the percussion parts again, no 4 mallet sections at all in the pit either, there is one moderately fast part but on xylophone which is kinda expected to have those.
True dat
Were playing a different version of this for our halftime show. I absolutely love this song. It's awesome!
Probably one of the best Percussion Parts I've ever played in Pep Band. Oh. My. God.
Me a mallet player: this isn’t to bad
1:00: hold my sticks
Me, a flute player:
I would rather die. Good thing I’m not playing that part.
yep i had to do it on flute
This part in the original song I love to hear.
Crash cymbals
i would die like id literally die
This makes my heart have the chills 😍 brings back so many memories
I always wanted to play this in either a halftime show or as an extended stands tune to play during a timeout
I wouldn't change a thing about this. This would make an awesome stand tune.
I get to play this as a stand tune today!
Where my fellow percussionist at?
Edit: woah. I forgot I made this comment and wow. There's so many of us. Also. I wanted to march for sure and I do trumpet now but percussion still rocks.
RIGHT HERE
Here my boi
HEY THERE BUDDY
MEEE!! :)
aaaayyyyyyy
I wish they would play live cause they sound so good :D
High C trumpet 0:58!!!!
+jaman198 BLOW!!!!!
Me: I"M GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I can squeak that out on mine but high gs and below i can do flawless
Yes!!
This is a good warm-up
as a Dance team member, these make me miss football season so much :(
0:59 THIS ISN"T FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLEBEE GOD DAMNIT
Sure it is! Just keep it going for 9 hours. Than add in "Funky Drummer"
Maya Shah Las notas en flauta serian
Re agudo re bemol,do si si bemol y re bemol, asi tres veces
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING
RIGHT
Maya Shah lmfao that's a mood
I quit band but these arrangements are amazing!
#BAND4LIFE these upbeat stand tunes are amazing 😉🥁
Im not the only one who thinks the tune for this is better than the actual singing in the real song, right?
same
Yes dude
it wouldnt exist without the low brass, *cough*trombone*cough*
what about the baritone
seriously
deny fentum exactly, baritone lives matter too.
Tubas? Anyone?
Lauren Clay yeap😂
MY BAND FINNA PLAYING THIS AND IT SO DOPE
How'd it turn out?
@@kierain9206 good actually
Ya I play this song as a stand tune (clarinet) and me and my fellow woodwinds just take dance breaks during the crazy parts
oh dont you just love insanely fast high 16th notes on flute while marching
Omggg I want to do an 80s theme for marching band soooo baadd. It would be SO COOL
My band is doing this, we have this song, the Final Countdown, and Word Up.
@@carson8476 There are SSSSOOOOOOO MMMAAANNNYYY good songs from the 80's (Having lived through it and did marching band for the tail end of that decade.) Did you guys do other songs besides those two? Like Eye of the Tiger, Freeze Frame, Thriller, Don't Stop Me Now, Come on Eileen?
MIIIINE DIIIAAAAMOOOOOOOOONDSSS
Me: About to like comment.
Also Me: Realizes I already liked it in the past
Me to Past Me: A true man of culture.
Playing as an 80s theme for my high school band #bandgeek4life
My band director to all the new beginners: It's not hard! You'll get it in no time.
Me and the rest of the 2nd year players: w e l c o m e t o h e l l.
As a piccolo I can assure you my mouth has never felt so crazy after playing this
es una de las mejores piezas q he escuchado¡¡¡¡¡¡ aunque al principio se me hizo un poco dificil los arpegios y las escalas pero luego me las aprendi¡¡¡¡¡ EXITOS
When all you see in the comments are people talking about how hard it is to play this on their respective instruments and then proceeding to get into arguments about which is harder. Ah, my fellow band nerds!
Tenor sax. True soul of any marching band
hell yeah
You, sir, know what is up.
Joshua Smith trumpets!! Are the life!!!
Tenor and Bari sax, I play alto as well, but I prefer either of the two because I can put more air into it
1Ayden 1Putsche You mispelled drumline
Man, love going up an octave to the double C on the last few counts of the trumpet part
Rip flutes for that huge slur
Band teacher: Good job guys its getting better
Me: Bish what u talking about I cant even do it
lowkey... periodt at my school woodwinds are amazing and they actually got the spotlight for a movement this year :D
Yo the arrangement I play- so many slurs 🥵 More than this one and then I end up dying from lack of oxygen before I’m done lol
Was the only flute player who worked on this song over the summer and came to school and got stared at because I knew my part.
The only comment my band director had to say to us flutes was that he was sorry and just practice. It's phantom of the opera all over again!!
I hated the trills on flute! They were so much fun once I learned them, but the process was KILLING me!
Saxophonists: This isn’t that bad!
0:19: lmao you thought
0:48 - 0:55 best part
Ah yes, best part, especially for us French horn players,
I’m playing this for my high school marching band
dang. the Flute part looks soo hard especially at 0:56
our marching band played this and I'm a flute and you're so correct, that part was SO hard. like the first time we saw it we just kinda stared at the sheet like "what the heck are we supposed to do".
+Tammy Jett well you know as an experienced player for a while, you get used to it. its actually really un to play that part
the clarinet one is basically the same. the clarinets in my band are lazy so we just let the flutes to it. :p
I'm in choir and I love listening to the band songs a lot 😂😁
ANY TRUMPET PLAYERS HERE?
+Ben Vogel oh yeah boi
+Ben Vogel Trumpet forever

Marching Band Life
Wow I love being a trombone 😀 (I’m actually a saxophone but my band literally has zero trombones so I have to combine trombone and alto parts together, and this song i will now identify as a trombone)
I NEED THIS
Olympic sprint for my beginning set on this song LOL!
I'm a Baritone
Yessir

So beautiful mine further down,
What that I found,
Mine diamonds!!
MINE diamonds!!,
Il mine THEM,
SO FAR IVE GOT TWOOOOOOO
trombone 4 lyfe
+Arjav Rawal Agreed. I don't play the Trombone, but I'm required to play the Trombone part because of the instrument that I play.
Madi Jackson which instrument, tuba? 3rd trombone part? that's what ours uses
I play the Bassoon.
+Arjav Rawal lol tuba never plays trombone parts too high
Couldn't agree more
the only reason i don't hate this as a tuba player is bc i grew up with this song and im familiar with the bass line
#stopOboeAbuse
Oboes are life
lil midget trombens
#stopOboeAbuse
go oboes, though I quit oboe mine had way to many problems I do sax now.
Especially in marching band!
engdev8 yah I'm gonna be switching for my marching band, my band doesn't match Oboes :( so I'm doing sax too
Yeah thats what I did for marching band, it was quite tedious so I just switched completely to sax. Sax is way easier than oboe, less problems for one. The reed isn't as tedious as double reeds.
God damn my mom would love this!!!
#teamtuba
YEAAAAAAH!!!
+Ian Conway go us
tubas for life !!
long live us
Ian Conway hell yeah!!!!!
I look for band arrangements everywhere. Not a SINGLE ONE in the right key

As soon as I read your comment that part played
Dude, feel this moment and take on me have the same begging oh wow
Euph troop, where you at? (Ill include baritones too :D )
Concert Euph and that good 'ol marching baritone. Low brass is life.
Attack Helicopter yes! Finally someone who knows that there’s a difference between baritone and euphonium!
@@petedavidson7003 *THANK YOU*

HAHA! The Trombones shall lead!
+Madi Jackson The Trumpets let them think think that.
