Cpt David Morgan and Cpt András Arday made the first ever low altitude fly-by overhead the bridges of Budapest with an Airbus jetliner.

Actually I almost thought I was in Vienna when I was in Budapest for the first time and arrived in the street after moving up with the escalator from the metro. So sad the Danube is not in the city centre in Vienna

For the non-Hungarian visitors: Wizzair is actually testing intra-city flights in Budapest. The service will be launched by Q1 2015!
It was an extraordinary sight, and I'm glad they did it twice. It looks so wrong somehow to see a proper jetliner flying so low along the river! It wasn't the first time I'd seen it however - on the day Hungary acceded to the EU in 2004, a Malév jet did the same thing although perhaps it wasn't an Airbus and perhaps they didn't do all the bridges. I just say it go past me when I was having lunch between the Szabadág and Erzsébet bridges. Great stuff!
Funny in a way, if EU acceding doesn't happen, you could see a Malév plane flying over the Danube even today..

even for this demo flight they were absolutely professional and followed general flight rules, acknowledging all lowflight warnings that came from the onboard computer - awesome
That's awesome and beautiful, but how much fuel/exhaust was just dusted into the river?
The thrust from the engines is mostly air with a small percentage of exhaust mixed in. I'm sure the river gets more fumes from Road traffic and boats.
Had I viewed this feat from one of those bridges, I do believe that I might have WIZZed in my jeans.

Its intressting to see the flying pilot stops looking at the instruments and focuses 100% on flying visual at a certain altitude (other pilot maintains visual on the instruments). This is a prime example of how dangerous this actually is (but ofc spectacular!) thx 4 this wizzair =)

A very nicely done video. For once an Airbus Captain gets to do some real flying :) It reminds me of flying jets on the computer simulator, and flying under the bridges! No doubt, much planning and permissions were involved in getting that flight to happen.
My god, I kept waiting for the wingtips to catch one of the bridges as they banked.

I don't think anyone was scared, such a flyby happens time ti time here. I saw 2 apaches doing the same a couple of days earlier. Also, various flying vehicles do this on 20th of August fairly often

Just curious. European Jet flown over a Hungarian River by Hungarian Airline - why does the computer announce the altitude (I am assuming those were altitudes) in English?
Jared Frick Because that is the international (official) way. It also says the altitude in feet, although here in Europe we use metric system. The flight control communicates with the Hungarian crew in English aswell.
Jared Frick You can also hear the captain speaking English too.
Same in Japan too. Its international language of flight.

Why doesn't the GPWS sound any alarms?
TheOutsider04 On the Airbus Series, there's a few buttons above the captains head that can disable callouts such as GPWS, Glide slopes and terrain.

No, it was part of the 'show' on International Workers' Day (1st of May). Other planes also flew over like a fighter plane, helicopters and other sport air-crafts.
Boeing already tried this 13 years ago, it didn't go too well...
