  • You're likely aware of the concept of having a "window" above the net to hit your ball through in order to have a good third shot drop. I don't disagree with this. I do think it is a bit deficient. The flight path of the ball to that window matters. How can we visualize this a bit better? Watch to find out.

    Just yesterday my coach was talking about the importance of keeping the apex of the ball's flight on my side of the net, rather than directly over the net which is what I'd been doing. Moving the apex back to my side means the ball is already dropping as it clears the net and that seems to help avoid giving them shots they can volley. Pickleballs don't bounce very well so I'm not concerned with how high the apex is, as long as I've got the ball descending as it crosses the net.

    Good instruction, I was surprised where the Apex of the shot was in relationship to the net. thank you.
