In the early 1980s I worked on a wheat farm in eastern Washington state about 10 miles north of the Columbia River, pulling a 27-foot disc or 60 feet of Calkins rod weeders with a mid-60s Caterpillar D6C. Dozens of gulls would show up every day to follow me around the fields from dawn to dusk. I thought it was weird at first, but then I got used to it. Every morning I would start the tractor before servicing it and the equipment, and there they'd be, seemingly out of nowhere, waiting for me to dig up their breakfasts.
I remember as a younger farmer, seagulls following and landing behind a fall tillage scene but never this many!! There must be lots of earthworms. The Steiger Panther KP-1000 would be the same tractor as the Case IH 9180 which would have the Cummins engine if I am correct. Would have loved to own one...I did have a John Deere 8630 in the last years that I farmed. Enjoyed that too. Thank you BTP.....Great video!!
bigtractorpower-- I use to sell heavy commercial trucks therefore i'm familiar with Cat & Cummins. Listening to the tractor work the field i could tell it sounded like a Cummins. Funny how you worked the two together !
Too bad you didn't have any closeups of the rear frame. The interesting part is that the PTO shaft went through a tunnel in the tank to the rear. They were a real pain to weld up because of that tube. They were welded up when we got them to finish weld, and the tube welds ALWAYS had so many leaks that had to be patched and tested numerous times.
That would be cool. If you could at the time, articulate the unit first to get a good view of the front tube opening. Though you can't see the rear of the tube, the front of the tube is much wider than the rear of it, as you might imagine.
btp my biggest dream is to work with a custom harcesting crew and im currently 16 years old so i would like to know what kind of education should i get to be able o get a job at a custom harvesting crew. ps sorry for spelling mistakes i come from denmark :)
+the silent farmer I don't very much about custom harvesting. It looks like a great way for a farm equipment fan to spend the summer. I would check out Johnson Harvesting. They often post their annual job openings on Toy Tractor Times Toy Talk. Their website is at johnsonharvesting.com
Nellson Stout have seen alot with cats now two guys with but both are cat yellow never seen a black one the sound is what thro me the most cats have a completely different sound from the old inline Cummins
To my knowledge only the Series I and II models with CAT engines had yellow engines. Prime examples with be the Cougar CAT, Cougar I and Cougar II. After that the engines were all black.
I was wondering how the audio was clear when the drone was far away. Good one! 😃 and thanks for the video! 👍👍 Old Steigers are great looking tractors.
When I was a kid in the 80s I used to see these tractors in the field. Alot of memories.
Me as well. I like finding the 70’s and 80’s 4wds.
Whe the Steiger 1000 series came out ,it wiped the floor with everyone.
It was a big leap forward in 1982.

Watching the gulls follow that plow is amazing in and of itself. They know where the easy pickings are to be found.
Great tractors
Fantastic video ,I love these machines from the 80s.
Beautiful machine!

Lovely tractor and information! Good video Bigtractorpower!
Very nice footage. Love old steiger tractors. Between the caterpillar model and the Cummins model, which was more popular out of the two?

Great video and good mixing !!
I thaugh that the clanking in the audio dident match up to what was going on in the video, good one look forward to seeing more videos
I heard that clanking, thought it was scratching bedrock.
always loved seeing those mean green monsters
Great video once again!
I was wondering why the seagulls were so loud, I guess you dubbed them in too?
Got to love those steigers
I can't tell what kind engine it is I NEVER DROVE A STEIGER TRACTOR 🚜.
You could order the Panther 1000 with a Cummins or a Caterpillar

Interesting history. I will try to get that angle next time I film a Panther 1000. I filmed a 1000 this year as well.

figured it out its a seagull engine in it lol
why do seagulls flock in certain fields when the farmers are working?
When you work the soil, the bugs wind up on top of the soil. So the birds just hang around to eat the bugs.
interesting, thanks for replying!!
Worms not bugs!
Birds are getting a belly full
never seen so many damn seagulls in one filed in my life
It sounded like it was seagull powered.😂
It was feeding several birds

Cummins !! Nice clip !!
Very cool!
Good video!
+Jake Ziegler Thank you. It was fun to put together.
are you gonna be at the farm show this year loved the video you did last year
Nellson Stout his newholland can have a pto on articulated models they are optional
Nellson Stout he does not need one since he does not use it on a sprayer or a grain cart
Nellson Stout skittle is right we had no need for one on that tractor. Besides if we needed a 4wd with pto the 4-210 has a big 1000 on it
Nice rig
Have one of these and is pretty cool
I knew that tractor in the bean field had a caterpillar engine
that is a great video! only a goober wouldn't like it.
Cummins for sure.
👍
You got me good
😃👍
Trivia seems so...trivial.
Cummins could tell by sound
It sounds like it's about to lunch a rod, so I say Cummins.
cummins from the lifter tick
That implement is actually a bird seed spreader

Paul Allen it’s a coulter chisel. He’s probably right though. It’s digging up all the worms

I'd say the seagull motor.. Cummings motor
