Great video as usual.
One thing I've learned over years of gigging with Tubescreamer circuits into Fender type amps, is that the louder the amp, the less gain you want to dial in to the pedal to retain the same level of compression and clarity. I usually run my gain above noon at home levels, but at gig volume it drops down to between 10 and 11 o'clock.

So true but also, the more you play with your guitars volume knob!
Is here some one, who can me explain, why I cant get this settings without getting much too loud to play guitar without break my ears. When I set the output level of my TS10 or J.Rocket Archer at noon, at home it is much too loud and even in my rehearsal rooms it is very loud. So I cant set those recommended settings. My question is, how does it function in every youtube tutorial or live on stage, without breaking their ears? I mean, I think the Two Rock here is not set to just 5 watts or something like this. At home, in rehearsal or on little stages I use a Fender Blues Junior. Thank you guys!

Can’t find a reasonable TS10 but the bonsai works really well!
The Tone Geek PCB is good if you're down for building.
I’ve got bonsai and a ts10. Bonsai is dead on, plus a lower noise floor.

I agree with you. I don’t think I’d pay $500 for a ts10. When I got mine, they were about $250. I had a made in Taiwan one that I sold. I kind of regret it because I loved the way it sounded. I got caught up in the Made in Japan Hype.
I just bought a MIJ TS10 for $340 in great condition. I like it better than my Maxon OD9.
Best setting to my ear is TS 10 engaged with all dials at 12. The TS 10 after you up'd the knobs was a bit to noisy and a bit more 'scruffy' but the clean tone was excellent 👌🏼. When you backed off the first knob with the up'd settings 👏🏼 nailed it. Great video. Subscribed 👍🏼

I'm running a keeley super phat mod into a mini tube screamer. sounds great for mayer tones without spending a fortune
Just got my tone geek VS-10 and it sounded great with everything at 12. Glad I wasn't too far off but excited to play around with it. Really appreciate your dedication to these videos! Can't wait for the next ones (especially that gain staging video!)

years ago i bought a ss10 sc10 and ts10 on marketplace for $360 for all 3. i knew it was a good deal and told the guy but he wanted to help someone out i guess... i dont ever plan on selling them but as far as sound goes the ss10 is pretty sweet and the ts10 is a mid heavy ts so its great but really you can get the same "usable" sound with an 808
If you don’t want to buy a TS10, I highly recommend the Vandae Electronics Green Jealously. It’s a beautifully made pedal that outperformed the Bonsai setting by a mile.

Hi, now I just have one Made in Japan, early versión. There are also a late Japan version with diferent chip and Taiwan version with other components like diodes. Also I have a clone from the TS10 that is amazing true clone, 1:1 replica. Sound really good, it's called "Finding that tone" company from Spain. Best regards

I always find it surprising how much gain ISNT on alot of the tones. More eq ‘shaping’ than anything, I always find I put way too much on...

Have you tried the Wampler Moxie? I've heard that it's supposed to be a TS-10 clone with ability to add more gain if wanted. I was curious how it compares for the Mayer TS-10 sound. Thanks for another great video!
Fantastic video as always. One point on WDYTIW: my theory is that in the official video of the song JM actually uses the Keeley BD. You can see it on his board in the video - also in the Jay Leno performance of that time you can see JM using the BD and then stomping on the TS for the lead tones. I am always able to get closer to the tone of the official video using the Keeley BD rather than the TS10.
Yeah I’m doing a major deep dive into the JM3 sounds and one of the debates I’ll tackle is when the BD-2 was used vs the TS808!
Probably uses the klon for it now 🤔
What is your guitar Volume set at? Im only getting my TS10 to 9 o clock on my two rock with guitar at 7
would you get a ts808 or a klon clone (if yes, which klon clone is the best for you?) for your first overdrive pedal?
You can get the same results with a Maxon OD-808. Both the circuits are more or less the same according to Analogman.
What the doffence in tube screamers I got the mini but I swear the old one where diffrent they where warmer like a tube
Hi Justin, great video, I’ve got a question about gain stacking, I use a Maxon OD808 for the TS sound, is this a good option? When I go OD into Klon the sound is way too gainy and adjusting the knobs doesn’t seem to change that, any ideas why?
What Klon style pedal do you have? And what amp?

It’s going to be really difficult to give good advice over UA-cam but I would totally back off the gain on the amp and everything and slowing experiment with introducing more and see how it all blends in together. I can’t speak directly for your rig as I’ve never played any of those pieces sadly

JHS Moonshine and the Earthquaker Devices Plumes is a good sub for the TS10. Also the EHX East River Dr is an excellent choice.

Why did you order the 100W version of your Two Rock and not the 50W Version? What’s the tonal difference when you play at home?
The 100W is switchable to 50W.
Do you think that also other "green pedals" can lead you to that ballpark sound?
Totally! You certainly don't need a TS10!

Hey Clay! I don’t think that’s a thing people do? If I lived in LA or something I’d probably go if my city had multiple shows back to back, but where I live in Canada I had to fly to see John the only time I’ve seen him live! Planning on making a show in 2022 at least!

about 1o clock for bass, mids 10 o clock, treble 10 there’s a rig rundown and it shows his settings

Last world tour was exclusively JMOD cabs but for the smaller shows since and with D&C he hasn’t been. The Sob Rock tour will tell

Traditional Clean, and the PRS JMod currently!

I wonder how many TS10s JM has... they are unreliable, but he has toured them for years!
