Awesome instruction. I learned about at least 10 things I didn't know existed in TechDraw. Not to mention exactly what I was looing for (clip views) but didn't know what to call it. Many thanks.
The workbench continues to improve. The number of changes that have been incorporated into the development release even since I did these videos is staggering.
If you have an over-sized section, it should be possible to cut off the boring parts and have a "discontinuity zig-zag" ... The clip group does part of it.
Thanks for the video. Is there a way to make those dimension dots smaller? I found them annoyingly big, when you are creating drawing. Also default line widths shold be able to set globally.
Open the TechDraw preferences (You need to have opened the techdraw workbench first). Go to the TechDraw Dimensions tab at the top and then change the vertex scale. For line thickness, check out this wiki page on line groups: www.freecadweb.org/wiki/TechDraw_LineGroup
In November 2024 in current stable version 0.21.2 there are no height and width of a view if it is inside the clip. Thants God, I could move it manually, but does not tech drawing imply some degree of precision? Or maybe some of the view object properties are locked... It also would have been a common sence for any WYSIWYG application to give user a choice about the rectangular frame around the view on the page or inside the clip group. I could not find either.
All of these TechDraw videos are great… but this one had just a bit too much criticism of the drawbacks for me. It’s like this was almost a video for the developers about what you’d like fixed. I get that you need to point out "wacky stuff"… just try to keep it aimed at the new guy trying to learn the tool. Thanks!

That's amazing. Without your videos there is pretty hard to reach some results from TechDraw.

This series has been very helpful, thank you.
Thanks for all this videos! You really help the project teaching to us new users!
In the last version, there is no need more to recompute the object after changing the position of the detail view. Thanks very much for your efforts.
Hi. Thank you very much. Your videos are excellent work and much appreciated.
Great videos. Looks like the developers are listening to you. They updated section view in v0.19 pretty much like you suggested.
you are doing gods work here buddy, thanks for all this help

Very help full thanks. Found your book on Amazon too, Thats next!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you so much for the video. Are you going to update your book? I hope that all of your suggestions are implemented.

@@sliptonic Thanks for the reply and keep posting these videos. It is nice to see other users workflows.

What you didn't say, unless I missed it, is that when you print you don't get the view labels. If you want them you need to add them as an annotation.
Views also have a caption property. If set, it's printed with the view. By default the caption is empty
Hello Sliptonic !
Do you know if it's possible to insert arrows on page. I want to show a part with a arrow. I don't know how to do....
No callout arrows yet, but planned for 0.19. The only workaround I've found is to insert a graphic of an arrow and then fine tune the position.
@@sliptonic ok, I 'll wait the 0. 19 version.
Thanks for your answer !
Is it possible to add a section at a 45 degrees instead of horizontal or vertical ?
I think you would need to add view to the drawing of the part at a 45 degree angle. Then section that view.
Why don't the section View solid făcea show up în the detail View ?

I personally really disliked the section view in FreeCAD, its very non-intuitive, it should be more like solidworks.
