  • Chihiro and I visit Statens Museum for Kunst. We also get to see my favorite painting about the Dannebrog falling from the sky!

I worked as a security guard there a few times. It was a night gig and walking in the basement at that place with only my flashlight was so damn scary. I dont believe in ghosts or anything but that place was haunted, man that place was scary :p one door down there has a troll painted on it and every damn time in that maze of a place had me cold sweating.. but as a guest it's a lovely place. :)

A real tour de force. The two of you must have been overwhelmed by impressions.
I usually do SMK in smaller bites. Plenty of art for many visits.

I kinda giggle over the fact that I lived for 15 years in that exact neighborhood, walk by the entrance of "Statens Museum for Kunst" regularly (just stretching my legs) but never went in. I need an "american" to show me what is inside ;) (...0 disrespect or ill-intentions with calling you "american", more than happy to consider you my danish neighbor; it just helps highlighting the irony of my own stupid ways).

Ha, no worries. And that is how it is with the things we see every day. There are tons of things I never did in places I lived in the past. And in fact, after almost 4 years in Denmark this was the very first time I went into the SMK. I will say it is worth it though. I am not a huge fan of art with the exception of a few specific pieces, but I love the flow and openness of the museum. It is really a nice place to chill and relax and get lost in a maze of artistic expression.

That is my “hood”. I live 2 min away. I have been there a lot (especially when the entrance used to be free) and played in the park (Østre Anlæg) behind the museum

Have you been to Louisiana museum or Aros (Århus) ? In Århus the Moesgaard museum now has an exhibition about the vikings who went to Russia and Ukraine. Sadly relevant now when a current autocrat tries to rewrite history.

I have been to them all yes, I love them. Aros and Moesgaard are two of my favorite museums in the world.

i can confidently say that I'm not really in to art. Or understanding of why something as "simple" as a dot on a canvas can cost millions. And I say "simple" because some people would argue that the technique or whatever used to make that dot was super complicated. To me, it's just a dot on a canvas. But still, it's fun to actually see the inside of this building :)

The thing that made me understand and appreciate art like that more, was the realization that even though it is something everyone could do, someone made the conscious act of actually doing it. That gives it some meaning, because the artist did it for a reason, be it expression, beauty or some other thing.
I won't say I am into this type of art, but I do appreciate it more now.

    • @24Shigeru24

Of course it has meaning, and if it's something like the Mona Lisa where there's only one of in the world and from Leonardo Da Vinci's time, I can understand. But with a n artpiece like Black Fire 1 by Barnett Newman, I seriously don't understand why and how that piece can sell for $84+ million....

@@24Shigeru24 yeah, the price of art is a whole other can of worms. There are too many factors, that are difficult to assess the magnitude of. Some are honest, others are not e.g. money laundering.

Hey Joshua, not the time for Art, but the time for War, and as traveling to Denmark from Chicago, war is on your doorstep, ( otherwise, love all videos from you ) .
