Kauai local here! We mandated masks back in March. Don’t come to this island that is virtually covid free and no mask it even outdoors, not cool.
My friend in Kalaheo killed himself in October 2020 in huge part because he was fired from work on the na pali boat (he was a captain, just got his license) from the dystopian lockdowns preventing tourism, what the island thrives on economically. Preventing food on the table for families is killing them, far more than covid. Go look at Florida with no mask mandates ever and no lockdown since MAY, they are in the bottom half of per capita cases for the entire USA. What Governor Ige and Kawakami are doing is a disgrace to the island. IT IS POLITICAL! NOT BASED IN SCIENCE. You wanna stay home, stay home. Let others live outside with no mask. We're not China.

Im from Kauai, and locals are not too comfortable with visitors arriving but its getting better and its good to see people coming back so people can get back to work. Just wear your mask and respect the people and culture. You will get told when you are out of line on this island. Mahalo!

@@EuroTrotter Is this video from several months ago? You can't go to Kauai now without staying on another island 1st for at lest 72 hours or you have to stay in a resort bubble for three days on Kauai to avoid quarantine. Or are they not checking any of that???? I ask as we have tickets to go in April.

How about you talk about traveling safely in our islands. You didn’t inform others how to be safe but acted like you were put out by our rules. You’re welcome to not come back if you feel like it’s suuuuuch a hassle to follow safe travel protocols here in the islands. I hope you would want to be seen as a responsible person. Kuleana

@@EuroTrotter You earned a sub with this reply. Lived in Kauai since I was 19, south/west side where you were. Ironically all the hardcore anti white/transplant racists are where the overwhelming majority of white people live. Literally their entire economy is based off of tourism, aka how to put food on the table, but they don't see past the intentions claimed by Governor Ige or Mayor Kawakami. Just pushing more fear and more separation from all we know as humans. Crazy how some places are handling the pandemic with 0 dystopian pro govt controls the body mandates, and they're getting along just fine. But Hawaiins keep pulling the GTFO haole card.
