In case you're wondering why there's a random man in House's home scratching his nuts... this episode's sideplot is about House trying to convince an insurance company to cover some water damage (that House realizes at the end of the episode that he's directly responsible for causing), and that man is a handyman that House is bribing to convince the insurance company to lie about the cause of the leak.

I know the feeling, had headaches daily that were beginning to turn into crippling migraines 3 times a week, this was lasting for most of my entire life slowly getting worse. In the last 5 years where it was getting even worse I was seeking help from every specialist I could only to be told there was literally nothing wrong with me and I was in amazing health.
Skull being on fire every day, and having to actively avoid light because it instantly caused me huge amounts of pain I would call not healthy. With no answer to fix any of the issues I was having, the mind tends to wander to the ultimate end solution.
On a random aside my family Dr after one of my blood tests just said I should try taking some B12. My B12 levels were only slightly lower than mid range, but he'd noticed that my B12 levels had been slowly decreasing when comparing my blood tests.
Bought myself some B12 and literally couldn't be more over the moon for the first while as I was finally able to go outside and not feel like my skull was on fire, not wake up and instantly be in extreme pain.
However I now have to take B12 daily or at the very least every 2-3 days, otherwise the headaches come back with a vengeance, but before that a massive wave of apathy and general depression.
Chronic pain is no joke, not being able to escape pain even to the smallest amount will just drive one insane.

Speaking as a survivor of the club, it's one thing to want out. It's another to use your kid to help you carry it out. Your kid's supposed to be the reason you keep going, not your accomplice. I don't use the use the word "selfish" when it comes to this sort of thing lightly because I don't think people who do it are, but it is horrifically selfish not to consider how helping you die will mess your kid up. Doctors get sued for malpractice *all the time*
Didn’t House have like 60 malpractice cases (Cuddy mentioned something like that at one point) throughout his career? That’s what insurance is for. Find a way out of the pain. If most attempts to solve the problem have failed and the pain continues to be debilitating, what is the last solution available to try? This idea that suicide is a decision only the mentally ill can make is simply not true. But I have a feeling it's because he hasn't been in constant excruciating pain like that. Saying somebody who wants to commit suicide is crazy is rediculas. Some times its the only rational option. If you are a burden on your family and are going through torment every day of your life and doctors just treat you like you are making it up makes suicide the only option for some people. And most doctors will send you to a psychiatrist when a few tests come back negative. Most doctors only care about the status of the job and couldnt give a sht about the patients.

But the attitude is still there for young people who aren't terminal.

    • @JohnLoKie
      @JohnLoKie 24 дні тому

There is nothing good about saying it is crazy and there is nothing good about saying it is rational.
It is ultimately an emotional decision. A sane but depressed person can look at his life and say well, based on all my pain, objectively, most people would probably have tried to hurt themselves. This is actually how I used to think.
The part missing here is that the pain tolerance of the individual is often a key measure of what happens. At least in the cases not involving self-medicating and then overdose happens. If you have been in pain for 15-20 years and brainwashed yourself emotionally that hurting those around you would be a worse pain to you, well you stay alive. It doesn’t if that had no rational basis to you. You fucken lie to yourself as many times as you need to give yourself hope at the times when you need it. Felt like a survival instinct to me and I was lucky.
Furthermore, it is irrational and crazy to act like we can predict the future.
I never thought I would get out of that pain but I also thought the pain could be manipulating my thought process. I could have been completely wrong about that but it doesn’t matter. Cuz I could see that scenario being true at least 1% of the time and that was enough hope to keep going. Alot of people who go theough pain for a long time also feel like if they give up, they are not only saying that they can predict the future. But then all those years of surviving meant nothing. Pain tolerance is unfortunately what separates how people decide what to do. If you have had to handle alot of different types of pain in your life, including external sources like a bad break up, it makes a big difference. Wheras, if all the pain you have ever experienced was inside your head, you are more likely to feel like you can’t handle it. Because if you had something like a bad breakup and eventually the horrible pain subsided, you will never forget that it is a possible outcome. Whereas if all the pain you have had had been buried in your mind and you never have gotten relief, it can be much harder not to convince yourself that you aren’t a defective person and this pain is really just telling you to quit.
The trigger that makes someone want to kill themselves is ultimately governed by their emotions. Which is why there are so many spur of the moment suicides where someone has a horrible set of circumstances and just decided to jump
      off a bridge.
Attempting suicide shouldn’t be labeled as crazy or rational.
We are humans who when influenced by strong pain, can have very powerful emotional reactions.
I used to punch walls, smack myself in the face and cry all night. That was enough for me to not get to the thought of I can’t go on like this. Everyone is different but their emotions at the time is the deciding factor. So many people who die are not even leaving notes or giving the impression that it was planned. An unexpected amount of pain will either convince someone to fight harder or give in.
