The balance between practicing and progressing is such a tricky line. You got some really good work in at better extreme though, loving the reverts there sick. I’m going to sound like a broken record but I would really recommend trying rolling shuvs Fakie. For some reason they seem to work so much nicer, that’s what I found at least. Appreciate the shout out too mate, we’ll have to try and sort out catching a session together at some point.
Needed to credit you since that video triggered something. Damn fakie shuvs. I know. I’ve watched the rotation, I see it, but I haven’t been in the right frame of mind to pursue it. More than happy to come out if you’re in town.
Love seeing this! Keep it up man there's a lot more ahead. I'm 38 and absolutely love seeing anyone older than me do this. Very inspiriting and a good reminder that I still got some years on me!
On your shoves, try consciously keeping your knees bent on the landing, like what feels like an unreasonable amount. If you watch, your legs extend and you are landing really stiff. When I do that it really helps you feel the improvement. Then you can apply that to other tricks when they feel shakey and you'll suprise yourself. Ollies you might try focusing on lifting your back foot quickly too. It helps you keep from the stomp you are feeling and adjust timing. I hope that helps! Great video!
I'm buzzing that you went to the barking skatepark, I was just looking at going their with my little girl so this video has made my mind up to pop there 👍🏻
Keep up the great work, consistency is the key a 100%, mastering tricks and repetition is the key to progression, also everyone is progressing in different ways, speed, some tricks are easier and quicker for you might be harder and slower for others. Keep going i can see you progressing well!!! Great video!
Apparently it does. Apparently you have to try to revert with more of a push through the back foot. Apparently you then just have to pop. I considered trying them once but the rotation just felt completely alien
ollies lookin great man! looking really good and comfortable on the mini ramps too. skateiq's style of teaching and advice really helped me a lot as well. really appreciate videos like these as a returning skateboarder after 17 years; i find it really inspiring for me. thank you so much and keep it up!
I'm 52 and just bought my first board. I didn't ride when I was young but it's always interested me and I'm looking forward to the challenge. And after a few intro rides it's going to be a challenge
Kickturns and reverts looking good. I love that ShateiQ ollie video and Mitchie is really good at explaing and demonstrating techniques. Great video. 🤙🏼
I am also new and learning how to skate enjoyed the video. Made me think I might go to a park this weekend to roll around and get balance/comfortable on smooth concrete
@@Ungracefulmovement guess its momentum, but wehn attempting I get unstable and iirc always have been. As a kid, I could do the highest ollies among my friends standing still but could hardly clear anything rolling. have you seen skateiqs 45 minute ollie tutorial. Its all there we just need to learn how to do it
I'm currently is a slight off week. But I landed a 3 shove on carpet and you saying something similar in the beginning helps haha gotta push on through and progress 0.1% as many times as we can 🙌
Can agree, consistency is a key. Even to spend 20 min every day on board helps a lot. Full skate sesh with 1 hour warmup couple times at week are just out of reach for most after 30, 40, sadly. The moment you are ready your body is already at 50% juice, that is how i feel.
100% relate to the body being 50% spent 25% into a sesh and only achieving 12.5% of what you’d hoped for (and probably making only 6.25% of your tries)
I got a transition trick for ya, I teach it to my groms as their first trick above coping. Imagine a frontside rocknroll, do that but have both your hands on the coping and your body above the coping. When you can do it with 2 hands, then do it with just your right hand / back hand. We used to call it a J turn but I’m not sure if that’s its real name. It’s like a layback meets rocknroll and the best bit? 100% safe because you’re holding the coping!! Pull one of them out in a session, you’ll definitely get some board slap for it 🤙
Cool man! That council park is very similar to our council one and your skating there was a lot better than you give yourself credit for! You spend a long time talking about how you are struggling with your skating then drop in on the mini to rock n roll! And you have axle stalls too!
There are moments I do want to show in a video that can do more than just bad ollies and standing shuvs. My struggle is more around progression and being consistent. Axle stall for example, I can do on 2 foot ramps with a run up, but haven’t focused on them enough to get them on that mini ramp and even drift off to some thoughts about slappy noseslides then lose axle on 2 ft. I think it’s all just adhd type behaviour
I often wonder if skateparks are really the best place to learn skateboarding, when we were young there were no skateparks so we learnt on the streets, guess that’s why I can’t skate transitions 😂
Not a concern, since within a year, we probably won't have any left in London. The dream i have of nosesliding a ledge is only on the streets as far as I'm concerned.
Ahahah SkateIQ ollies yeah been there as well. Hippy jumps are helping, rolling ollies are hard to get height, try rolling at slow speed, be it ollie or shuvs. Nice rock to fakie revert and 50s looks great, well done
since the 90s. this group of skaters has become normal. they only skate small ledges and do flip tricks. they tend to block the biggest ramp at the park playing skate because they could never skate it. just tell them to go to a parking lot somewhere
@@Ungracefulmovement honestly I lose everything unless I hit it very very regularly. Ever heard of the 10,000 hour rule? Skateboarding is the definition of that only you gotta get the 10,000 hours done in a row 😂
@@Sk8Comeback absolutely wish i'd stuck at anything for more than 10 hours. you seem to learn a trick a week though sometimes.... that kind of progression is insane
@@Ungracefulmovement I had a good week and learnt a fair few mini ramp tricks… particularly after not landing the blunt pull in! Everything seemed less scary for a while and let me learn a few new things! Lost most of them now tho 😂 I played tennis and football for a crazy amount of hours. I could enter a flow state just by flick on a ball. I want that with skateboarding and I’m realising there isn’t a short cut
@@Sk8Comeback I’ll mention this again, but over the last 2 years I’ve had maybe 3 flow state moments which were amazing. A combination of feeling super warmed up and muscle memory just leading the way. Bliss.

I was the Dad at Barking (not the one that got in the way haha). Great to see this pop up on my recommended! You were shredding, keep it up man.
No way!!? Haha. Well no you for sure weren’t in the way. Though I must be more careful shaming parents in videos

i'll do my best

You’ll have fun for sure. Try rolling up a bank a little and rolling down Fakie (backwards)
Nice vlog - that skate park looked amazing! Liking the progress man - keep pushing 😉
Thanks for tunign in as always!!
That revert was cool. Will try to follow your lead on that!
Yeah try them. Reverts / power slides are so fun. Then just trying to keep the rotation
Your doing great mate.Main thing is enjoyment.Had my first run in with a pebble the other day, that wasn't enjoyable however!
ouch. they level you. happened to me in a crowded street this week, but thankfully i didn't faceplant
Them Ollies popping good now! focus on front foot is what helped me, too
just got to find that one cue that unlocks 2 foot high ollies. where is it!?

Those 360 reverts look nice!
i think they might be 2 consecutive 180 reverts right now

Sometimes helps to take a break too. Are you skating for yourself or for UA-cam? Big difference...
Good question. But, honestly: not skating for UA-cam. I think I’m skating through addictive personality / tendency to hyper-focus on an activity.
