@@vegasbaby3669 Bullshit. The Mandalorian is better than the OT in every way. Better acted, better storyline, better effects in a much more mature universe than when Star Wars: A New Hope came out and yes I was there for the originals and I still think The Mandalorian is the best Star Wars show we have ever had to date.
My friend Rick who is watching this video with me saw this movie the last time in 1977 before the Special Editions came out. Recently I showed him Episodes I, II, III, V, VI, VII and 8, one episode of Kenobi and most of Season 7 of the Clone Wars. It is 6/30/2024 on a Sunday morning, early.
Owen and Beru didn’t actually know Anakin was Vader. Obi-Wan told them he was dead, and Owen actually blames Obi-Wan. He believes the jedi lifestyle got him killed. “He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade, like your father did.”
Can we all just take a moment and realize how EPIC John Williams' score is in this in this franchise? Him and his orchestra set the tone SO WELL for everything!
This movie wasn’t actually made with the expectation of sequels. Everyone thought they were just making a goofy space adventure flick for kids, and director George Lucas thought he just got a lucky break to be able to make it. He intended the original 3 to be one whole story but it was just too big, so he picked portions that could be made as a self contained film.
Ben was a connection to his father. A concept that was new once again to him. He was learning, not just how to be a Jedi, but about his dad and the kind of man he was. I think that is why he bonded with Ben so hard.
@@robertmorea3446 People do sometimes just call someone by their title. Doctor, Professor so he may not necessary be calling him Darth as a first name.
One other thing I'll add is that the movie is a complete story because it was originally just "Star Wars" as a standalone movie. George Lucas had ideas for more, but this was all that was originally being made as a film. It was later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope after V and VI were made to continue the story.
I refer to it as the “Luke Skywalker Moment”. It came full circle in 2009 when JJ’s Star Trek reboot gave James T. Kirk his Luke Skywalker Moment with the Enterprise.
You should see the recreated original versions like the Harmy Despecialized Edition, or one of the other versions that preserve the original cut, minus digital fx.
The sound obi-wan made is the roar of a krayt dragon, giant vicious lizards. It’s one of the things that’s been changed with the special editions over the years. It did not used to sound like a crazy demon wail.
It's so fun to see people get excited and remember how good this first move is - how well it's paced and introduces all the characters and the way it throws you into the worldbuilding without a lot of exposition. That said, I can't believe you just talked through the binary sunset scene, lol. That's some of the best music in cinema. And the credits are always worth watching just to enjoy the suites of Wiliams's work. I was 14 when the special editions came out, so that is actually when I first saw it because my mom (who did see the original in the theaters - and she says it really can't be overstated how incredible that opening scene is from 1977 standards) wanted me to see it in the theaters. I was skeptical because it looked like a boring adventure movie to me but I loved it (although it was when I saw Empire that I got really addicted to the franchise). And here I am commenting on UA-cam videos about it :)
You watched the extended/enhanced version so there was some modern CGI from approximately 1996. In the original version after the destruction of the death start Mark Hamill(Luke)said Carrie (leiah) we did it. Also the scene with Jabba was added in the newer versions of the movie.
The work on the original Star Wars movies is what laid the foundation for Photoshop and modern video/image manipulation. They were WAY ahead of their time. Sure, it seems "dated" now, but you have to remember that the vast majority of these effects are literally 40 years old. And fuckit, some of the effects still hold up, or even surpass, some modern movies. A trendsetter if there ever was one.
Hey Primate! Seeing as you finished the saga, I might as well spit out some random facts and trivia about Episode IV. The Star Destroyer that chased Leia's blockade runner was called "The Devistator" Leia's blockade Runner was called "The Tantive IV" A Star Destroyer is 1 mile in length The Death Star was 120 kilometers in Diameter The Jawa's ginat droid transport is called "The Sandcrawler" Grand Moff Tarkin has one of the highest ranks of the Imperial Military. Tarkin's first name is "Wilhuff" The First Death Star actually had a throne room for Palpatine, he never actually had time to use it. General Tagge (That one Officer who had a complete red Medel badge and had what could only be a VERY bad haircut) was one of the few who survived the Destruction of the first Death Star by being sent to overlook the scout operation to investigate Datooine, the planet that Princess Leia claimed the Rebel base was on. Alderaan had a population of 2.5 Billion beings Captain Antilles' (The dude Vader Choked) family, unfortunately lived on Alderaan Bail Organa (Leia's adopted father) also, unfortunately lived on Alderaan Palpatine was on Coruscant during the events of Episode IV and V. The First Death Star had a population of roughly 265,000 The Millennium Falcon was docked in Docking Bay 327 on the Death Star. The actor who played Uncle Owen lived from 1916-2016 Luke's X-wing was Red 5 Death Vader's personal Tie fight was too expensive for the Empire to mass produce, Vader Tie Fighter's full name is "Tie Fight Advanced Prototype ×1"
Kenobi mimicked the cry of a kryat dragon and thats how he was able to scare the sand people (you actually can see the skeleton of a kryat dragon in one of the scenes)
Such a classic film. To the point, simple, and doesn't over complicate for it being technically the first. I it has the right amount of emotion for a first one, right amount of humor, and right amount of story and action for a first. That is why it only gets better from here!
There's actually a reason for Stormtroppers' accuracy dropping when they are firing at Luke, Han and Leia. Finding a Rebel base is more important than blasting them.
Was 7 when I saw this in a theater for the first time. Gotta tell ya, it was a game changer watching other movies and then coming into THIS movie that had so much going on. It was the only movie I'd seen at the time that didn't involve Earth at all. Every other movie happened right here on Earth. This one happened "Long long ago, and far far away" and yet seemed like the future. Mind blown! Love the reaction!
How I wish I could get my hands on the pre-Special Edition trilogy without all the CGI ad ons. Some of these CGI ad ons and sound effect changes take away from the movie instead of adding to it.
No - he IS upset about his aunt and uncle. He's devastated about it. But you have to get all of that from that one scene at the homestead (with the burnt skeletons... man - how did THAT make it in?) And watch Luke's reaction. I think Hamill nailed it there and with Obi-Wan. I think the key is the timing - Luke is reacting to the aftermath of the homestead being burned. He didn't see it as it happened. Obi-Wan was cut down right in FRONT of him. And I think it's the combination of holding in his feelings about his Aunt and Uncle's deaths AND watching Obi-wan being taken out by Darth Vader that uncorks him. It's all too much AT THE MOMENT. But then the moment passes, and he and Han get on with the defense against the Tie-fighters. He does a LOT of growing up in this film. And the most telling thing is that in both cases, he grieves, but then moves on when necessary and does what needs to be done. It's a common enough thing to say - but it applies here: Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is being scared to death but doing what needs to be done anyway in spite of it. And that's why Luke is a hero.
People in the Star Wars movies get over someone's death in about 50 seconds. Leia sure got over her home planet and all the people she knew in it being blown to bits quick. Also look how happy Luke is at the end after losing his aunt and uncle, his mentor Obi Wan, and his childhood friend Biggs from back home all in about a day or two.
@@danelicker317 He has new fast friends, and is at the center of a heroic exploit that will influence a galaxy which now lies open to him. I am glad of his happiness in that moment, for it is deserved. And he is still young enough to agree that it was well earned, yet adult enough not to poison his great gain with thoughts of things lost. So it seems to me, anyway. ☺️ 🙂
The thing to remember about this movie is that it necessarily had to be released as a one and done with no expectation that there would be more. That explains why Episode 4 is a fairly self-contained movie. Sure, Lucas wanted to make more, but he could only hope to make enough of a profit to cover production costs. Everyone was unprepared at how this thing took off and became what it was.
1. When this came out it changed so much about how movies were made. It caught everyone's attention. 2. The reason Lucas started with this episode was because he knew we didn't have the technology to justify starting from the beginning and producing quality product. CGI was still 25ish years away. 3. The footage of Jabba the Hut was added after the original release during the remake years later. 4. Sir Alec Guinness didn't want to play Obi-wan because he thought it was silly and below him. 5. Learning things as time went by was better because we didn't have the meme's to look back on. The thing is we had to wait for the next episodes to come out.
This was my first movie ever seen in the theaters. My mom took me to it, because I was being a kid and annoying the crap out of her and she never knew anything about it just picked it when we got there. Hooked ever since. And it was just Star Wars, no episode when it came out.
you made a good point about them going back to their base KNOWING they’re being tracked. they should’ve contacted one of their friends to meet at a rendezvous point and give them the plans. or just transmit that shit wireless!
Destroying Alderaan was actually a bad move. It was a loved planet that was very remote. The destruction of Alderaan actually caused more rebellion against the empire over fear.

"May the Force be With You", means good luck. Most people do not equate the saying with the Jedi. Even when the Jedi were around. Most people had never seen or heard much of the Jedi. So the saying has never had any more meaning than good luck, exceot to those familiar with force users.
Liked it because I know all your videos are amazing. I can't watch it right now because I have to do my own video first so I'll watch this one tonight.
ILM- Industrial Lights & Magic was created by George Lucas to create Star Wars The result was a revolution of how special effects were made. Many movies used ILM- to do their special effects- Including the Star Trek Movies.
When this movie was made, Luke's father and Darth Vader were meant to be separate people. It's retconned in Empire Strikes Back, which is why some of the dialog here doesn't make a lot of sense. Same with Luke & Leia being brother and sister, that's also not intended when Episode IV was made.
you haven't seen Star Wars: Rogue One yet. it is the mission the rebel spies took to get the plans to the Death Star, immediately leading into the opening scene of this one.
even if u don´t know other languages, "Vader" is very similar to "Father" Vader is Father in dutch and I´ve heard ppl say that darth comes from some word in another language with a small change in spelling and means "Lost" And however u look at it, Darth Vader sound a lot like "Dark Father" :D
The first cut George Lucas made was longer. He showed it to his filmmaker friends and they told him to cut it down, it would be better at a quicker pace. He did it.
Rewatching this to celebrate 100k subs! Love to see you succeed! You’re among the best reaction channels out there Wild to see you go from not knowing what the force is to an actual lore expert in two short years.
I didn’t see any comment about “Han shot first”, so I’ll make one. Originally, Han blasted Greedo without Greedo getting a shot off. IT WAS PERFECT! Han knew what was coming and proactively dealt with it like the badass he was capable of being. It was perfect for his character, the setting (just like a Western saloon scene) and the beginning of his character arc. Related perfectly to his apology about the mess. Folks apparently felt he had to have been shot at first to have been justified. Which made it ridiculous. An experienced bounty hunter running on at the mouth, overconfident, is way more believable than missing a shot across a table after already having a bead on his target. One of many ways they made it worse with edits.
Obi Wan sacrificed himself so the group can escape the Death Star. He knew how important it was for them to get the information to the rebellion of the Death Star's weakness that R2D2 was carrying.

Back in 1977, before they published all the retroactive explanations for what we had seen, it just came across as a stroke of luck for the storyline. I have to complain that if what flickers on the screen cannot stand on its own, somebody (e.g., the director and editors) has failed.

Sequels: Force Awakens- 2015 Rogue One- 2016 Last Jedi- 2017 Solo- 2018 Rise of Skywalker- 2019 They made 5 sequels which were 1 year apart

4, 5, and 6 are the best Star Wars movies. Rogue One is also a good one. It's set just before 4, and shows how the rebels stole the plans for the Death Star. 1, 2, and 3 are the prequels, and show how Anakin turns to the dark side. I don't like any of those sequels by Disney. Instead of advancing the story, Disney just dials it back to make money.
@@snowgrave2475 they made Rogue One. While not amazing, it was a decent effort by Disney. Shows they know how to pay homage to the original fans. Its a shame they are only making the one film. @@Biggiiful she knows what the fans want, yet doesnt give it to them. Need i remind of the whole 'russian troll bots review bombing the last jedi' fiasco that flooded the internet because they couldnt handle any criticism, and couldnt believe actual star wars fans dislike their movies. If i remember right, also, if you take the box offices of the sequels, rogue 1, and Solo; Disney has not made a penny in profits off of them, and i'll explain below, using rounded numbers for ease: Disney bought SW for 4.7B The SW land theme parks cost another 1B in research and development and building 500M - force awakens budget and marketing, estimated 600M - last jedi budget and marketing, est. 500M - rise of budget and marketing, est. 500M - Solo budget and marketing, est. 400M - Rogue 1 Budget and marketing, est. This adds up to about... 8.2 billion in estimated costs of making and advertizing the movies, and making the theme parks. The total box office for the movies is a good bit under 6 billion USD, and i may be wrong, but thats just the gros amount, not taking out the cut for the theaters, which means its even less, leaving a best case scenario of them being about nearly 3 billion less than what they've spent on making just that alone, and Kathleen is throwing everything out and seeing what's sticking.

I hopefully I don't fall in love and get addicted to the franchise...
Primate in a few months... ¡STARWARS the Clone Wars, episode...!
😂😂😂 life’s a trip
Lmao
Bro you called it lol
how did u know
Yep...
Dude you are on every Star Wars reaction I watch.
Ben was opening up, telling things that Uncle Owen had kept hidden.
Exactly
The legendary story starts here
First thing it’s Darth Vader not Dark Vader! Darth is a title!
@@robertmorea3446 People do sometimes just call someone by their title. Doctor, Professor so he may not necessary be calling him Darth as a first name.
@@k-guy1236 Cool
In French, it's translate as Dark, not Darth.
@@Scarycrow89 its not a French movie!!!!
@@jerbearschannel2208 I know. I just pointed that in other traductions, the title is "Dark", not "Darth".
One other thing I'll add is that the movie is a complete story because it was originally just "Star Wars" as a standalone movie. George Lucas had ideas for more, but this was all that was originally being made as a film. It was later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope after V and VI were made to continue the story.
9:58 oh yeah the iconic binary sunset scene
I refer to it as the “Luke Skywalker Moment”. It came full circle in 2009 when JJ’s Star Trek reboot gave James T. Kirk his Luke Skywalker Moment with the Enterprise.
Star Wars a new hope is literally a gold benchmark of movies it shows what you you can achieve with the tools available and new innovative ideas
You should see the recreated original versions like the Harmy Despecialized Edition, or one of the other versions that preserve the original cut, minus digital fx.
"I aint see a dead body, they aint dead. Thats my moto" 😂😂😂
When a jedi dies they become one with the force so he is from a certain point of view incredibly powerful
The best FILM TRILOGY EVER!
I love Star Wars but that title belongs to LOTR.
easily. Thank you for saying so too.
Um avengers?
Star wars created the concept of film trilogies. Star wars is the king!
@@tmac731 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Star Destroyer that chased Leia's blockade runner was called "The Devistator"
Leia's blockade Runner was called "The Tantive IV"
A Star Destroyer is 1 mile in length
The Death Star was 120 kilometers in Diameter
The Jawa's ginat droid transport is called "The Sandcrawler"
Grand Moff Tarkin has one of the highest ranks of the Imperial Military. Tarkin's first name is "Wilhuff"
The First Death Star actually had a throne room for Palpatine, he never actually had time to use it.
Alderaan had a population of 2.5 Billion beings
Captain Antilles' (The dude Vader Choked) family, unfortunately lived on Alderaan
Bail Organa (Leia's adopted father) also, unfortunately lived on Alderaan
Palpatine was on Coruscant during the events of Episode IV and V.
The First Death Star had a population of roughly 265,000
The Millennium Falcon was docked in Docking Bay 327 on the Death Star.
The actor who played Uncle Owen lived from 1916-2016
Luke's X-wing was Red 5
Death Vader's personal Tie fight was too expensive for the Empire to mass produce, Vader Tie Fighter's full name is "Tie Fight Advanced Prototype ×1"
Dang man that’s a lot of facts haha
@@ItsAPrimatee Hey more are still on the way, I plan to update this one, and do one of these for the other 8 films, and Rouge One.

Kenobi mimicked the cry of a kryat dragon and thats how he was able to scare the sand people (you actually can see the skeleton of a kryat dragon in one of the scenes)
I saw Star Wars for the first time on a drive in movie screen when it came out. Hearing you call this an old movie makes me feel very old today.
Every time I see a Jawa, I have to say "Utiny!". It's the only thing I always remember them saying.
I always heard "Houdini!" as a kid. I'll never be able to break free of this curse.
I like to think they are just huge fans of Middle Eastern food. "Ooh, ooh! Tahini!"
Uncle Owen is Darth Vader's half-brother. Same mom, different dads.
Finding a Rebel base is more important than blasting them.
the transitions and many of the scenes are taking almost exactly from Director Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress"
5:50 The one time a stun was used in the movies.
Mind blown! Love the reaction!
love the movie's music
It’s so mad how much I like watching reactions to a movie I’ve now already seen😂
3:09 “Hopefully I don’t fall in love with this and get addicted to the franchise.” 😂😂 funny knowing all the reactions you have
You definitely got addicted
😅
It’s awesome to go back to the Star Wars movie reactions now that I’m hyped for Sunday and Tuesday of clone wars every week
The legacy begins . . .
How I wish I could get my hands on the pre-Special Edition trilogy without all the CGI ad ons. Some of these CGI ad ons and sound effect changes take away from the movie instead of adding to it.
“Is luke gonna fall in love with Princess Leia”
Well gosh I sure hope not lol
Everyone notices the same thing he's more upset about Obi-Wan dying than his aunt and uncle.
@@danelicker317
He has new fast friends, and is at the center of a heroic exploit that will influence a galaxy which now lies open to him.
This was the beginning of one of the greatest reaction series ever. You can see someone become a Star Wars fan in real time.
1. When this came out it changed so much about how movies were made. It caught everyone's attention.
2. The reason Lucas started with this episode was because he knew we didn't have the technology to justify
starting from the beginning and producing quality product.
And it was just Star Wars, no episode when it came out.
that trash can is the legendary and beautiful gonk droid
And so it began
you made a good point about them going back to their base KNOWING they’re being tracked.
they should’ve contacted one of their friends to meet at a rendezvous point and give them the plans. or just transmit that shit wireless!
Destroying Alderaan was actually a bad move. It was a loved planet that was very remote. The destruction of Alderaan actually caused more rebellion against the empire over fear.
I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw it in Movie Theatres! It was amazing!
I’m 53. I saw this the day it came out when I was 8 yrs old . This isStar Wats to us . We had 3 thats alll there was for decades we were satisfied and it was a classic and the ultimate for us .

"May the Force be With You", means good luck. Most people do not equate the saying with the Jedi. Even when the Jedi were around. Most people had never seen or heard much of the Jedi. So the saying has never had any more meaning than good luck, exceot to those familiar with force users.

apparently they're called Duros.
Same with Luke & Leia being brother and sister, that's also not intended when Episode IV was made.
when you called him dark vader lmao
"It didn't go in! It just impacted on the surface!"
Thaaat's what she said. 😏
you haven't seen Star Wars: Rogue One yet. it is the mission the rebel spies took to get the plans to the Death Star, immediately leading into the opening scene of this one.
even if u don´t know other languages, "Vader" is very similar to "Father"
Vader is Father in dutch and I´ve heard ppl say that darth comes from some word in another language with a small change in spelling and means "Lost"
And however u look at it, Darth Vader sound a lot like "Dark Father" :D
That’s awesome!
the idea of obi wan controlling the sand people is stupendous
the idea of obi wan controlling the sand people is hilarious to me
This is not the first movie of Star Wars if he watched it he would have known who obi wan was 😂
The first cut George Lucas made was longer. He showed it to his filmmaker friends and they told him to cut it down, it would be better at a quicker pace. He did it.
You've come along way in this journey since you made this video.

Glad you enjoy the reactions!
I think this movie is the only time we see tall jawas.
Huge subscription. This is a massive W for my subscription feed. I LOVED seeing tour genuine reaction to the movie that shaped me. Thanks for all you do, man.

they decanonized that. The new story is that R2 attempted to sabotage him, but R5 found out, but he sacrificed himself anyway because there was a greater cause. Now he works for that nice hangar lady on Tatooine in Mos Eisley.
Back in 1977, before they published all the retroactive explanations for what we had seen, it just came across as a stroke of luck for the storyline. I have to complain that if what flickers on the screen cannot stand on its own, somebody (e.g., the director and editors) has failed.

The Sequels ruined the release dates:
Classics:
Star Wars- 1977
Empire Strikes Back- 1980
Return of the Jedi- 1983
Prequels:
Phantom Menace- 1999
Attacks of the Clones- 2002
Revenge of the Sith- 2005
And maybe Clone Wars- 2008
Each movie (except the time between the classics and prequels) was released 3 years apart from the each other.
Sequels:
Force Awakens- 2015
Rogue One- 2016
Last Jedi- 2017
Solo- 2018
Rise of Skywalker- 2019
They made 5 sequels which were 1 year apart
pretty sure rogue one and solo are prequels because they come before the OT

Just download the despecialized edition
4, 5, and 6 are the best Star Wars movies. Rogue One is also a good one. It's set just before 4, and shows how the rebels stole the plans for the Death Star. 1, 2, and 3 are the prequels, and show how Anakin turns to the dark side. I don't like any of those sequels by Disney. Instead of advancing the story, Disney just dials it back to make money.
Disney didnt make any star wars movies though
@@snowgrave2475 they made Rogue One. While not amazing, it was a decent effort by Disney. Shows they know how to pay homage to the original fans. Its a shame they are only making the one film. They could probably do more. Kathleen Kennedy is showing tons of promise. She obviously knows what the fans want.
If i remember right, also, if you take the box offices of the sequels, rogue 1, and Solo; Disney has not made a penny in profits off of them, and i'll explain below, using rounded numbers for ease:
Disney bought SW for 4.7B
The SW land theme parks cost another 1B in research and development and building
500M - force awakens budget and marketing, estimated
600M - last jedi budget and marketing, est.
