Even with those clutch HR’s in the post, Pete cost himself some money with a down year overall. He’s 30; he’s been durable but that also means he’s got some mileage. I don’t know how huge a deal he can expect. This isn’t Jacob deGrom imo. My hope is that the Mets can offer a couple of extra years over other bids, and keep Pete around to finish his career as a Met.
@@jayboegs6268 You also need the big hits in almost every game to get in the playoffs. If you're not able to get that from your big bat guy then you have a big problem.
Regardless of a somewhat difficult year for him by his standards.... the Mets would be a more dangerous lineup with Pete then any possible substitute. There's certainly no issue with his affordability.... and he's a stand-up guy off the field and in the clubhouse. I also would add that i truly believe Vientos is benefitting from Pete and Lindor both in the everyday lineup. Without Pete i would expect Vientos to see less quality pitches and it wouldn't surprise me if his numbers tailed off. All the Mets need is pitching and an infusion of talent from guys like Jet Williams and Ryan Clifford along with further growth from Acuna and Mauricio. Soto.... while being an addition that would certainly improve the lineup....is not the complete answer and his cost is devastating to payroll. I would sooner use that money to add front line support with starting and relief pitching. Sproat may also be a great young addition to the pitching staff in 2025. Id love them to put a trade package together to get a guy like George Kirby from Seattle. The Mariners need help and the Mets have plenty to give them. ...Baty, Mauricio, Acuna, and McNeil could all be used in a big trade package without damaging the current roster. I believe Kirby would be a potential Cy Young candidate if he came to NY.
Naturally, Pete will test the market to see what’s out there, and he will make the best deal necessary for his family’s financial future. In other words, he tests the market, weighs the offers, and makes the best decision for himself and his family. And he remains a Met for life.
All players that were original Mets say the same thing "how they love the organization" From Strawberry, Reyes, deGrom, Syndergaard and they all signed elsewhere. It looks like Alonso is heading that way too.

Almost everyone thinks Baty is a bust, but he has versatility. He can play 3B,2B and the outfield. I think his bat will come around, He had one really bad month this year with the Mets, and because it was so early in the season, it made his numbers look worse.
You can tell Pete Alonso genuinely loves NY, the Mets, and the fans. He has every right to try to get more money, that doesn't mean he doesn't want to stay. Just give Pete something like 7/175

I'm glad I'm not a GM because while he's a good defensive 1st baseman, the bat skills appear to be diminishing, so, how much does he and Boras ask for? Is he worth $25M, $30M or $35M per year? Moving Vientos to first might be the Mets best option and trying to put Acuna, Mauricio, Baty (his glove is better than his bat) or do they go out and get someone like Alex Bregman to play third base? However, I will say if that getting Bregman costs them about the same as what Alonso is looking for, because the asking price will probably be about the same, then maybe it doesn't make sense not to resign Alonso.
What are you talking about? Pete is in the middle of his prime! They considered prime for baseball between the ages of 27 and 34! Look it up! If that's the case, you got another good 4 or 5 years out of Pete. He's a met favorite and he's done a lot for this team. Bring Pete back!

If however Pete is primarily motivated by ending his career with the Mets, and take less $$, then he’ll stay. I would not judge him for opting for biggest contract and leaving. He has underperformed in the last two years. He hit 217 last year. His exit velo and OPS are down, and you have Mark Vientos, Francisco Alvarez, power power-hitting prospect Ronny Mauricio.
So was Jacob Degrom.
PETE ALONSO IS THE GREATEST OFFENSIVE FORCE IN BASEBALL. PETE ALONSO HAS HIT MORE HOMERUNS AND RBI IN HIS CAREER THAN OHTANI AND JUDGE HAVE IN LONGER CAREERS. PETE ALONSO WILL CONTINUE TO OUTPERFORM OHTANI AND JUDGE. THE METS OWNER HAS NO EXCUSE NOT TO SIGN PETE ALONSO EXCEPT FOR HIS DISLIKE OF PETE ALONSO.
I’ll offer Pete less than Freddie Freeman or Matt Olson contract. Nothing more than that. Otherwise thanks for the memories Pete
Same feelings here
fair offer
Yep. Don’t be fooled. This team is not there yet. Vientos to first Mauricio at third. We need pitching! Smoke and mirrors and junk ballers not good enough.
My goodness, totally forgot about Mauricio. 100% move Vientos to first, Ronny at 3rd. Two young power bats, and the infield defense improves.
Ronny is a terrible bat
@@pimphandstrong6620 well that is false. He's young, he strikes out too much, but he has power and speed and is electric. He won winter league MVP. He's gonna be a stud.
@@pimphandstrong6620 That's why he hit 292 with 23 homers at AAA. He also hit a respectable 248 in limited play.
Sure you probably said Vientos was terrible as well. Not saying the same thing now right? Mauricio has more raw talent than anyone including Vientos.
Has similar power to Vientos and hits the ball harder. You cannot teach that.
Keep Pete, but offer him 180 million for 6 years. No more than that. That is a great offer for someone like him. If another team offers him more than that, then let him go.
The question is who will offer Pete...how years? What annual price?
Pete had a "meh" year but then proved he could get the big hits in the playoffs. I want him back but if he wants a bigger deal then the Mets are willing? So be it.
How many home runs you hit this year?
Ha.
@@Am0ment0fB How does that matter? He has a point there's no use in tying up money in big contracts that aren't smart
He got the big hit when he knew what the pitcher was throwing. How was he a factor in the post season? Nothing like Vientos and Lindor.
@@jayboegs6268 You also need

the playoffs. If
you're not able

big problem.
Agree Pete has felt the pressure throughout this season. If he stays a Met, I predict he returns to a 50 homer year.😊
Keep Pete! At bats in the playoffs have taught him to be a better AT-BAT! PLUS he's OUR GUY-HOME GROWN! #20 RETIRED in the raptors after he hits HIS 500th Homerun and at LEAST 1 RING! Them off to Cooperstown.
$325 MILLION DOLLARS PLAYER SALARIES . THATS HIGHER THAN THE LA DODGERS PLAYERS AMOUNT. PETE ALANZO VALUE $30. MILLION
i forgot about maurcio
I had hoped his down year (for him) would dampen other teams’ interest and he would stay but I suspect Boston would be a good fit for him.
Cubs, I think. Or the Astros.
Alonso has regressed the last two seassons. This dude is not a 30 million dollar player with 2.6 WAR.
Muncy puts 5 war a season for 12 million.
Matt Olson (age 30) - $22 Million/yr
Bryce Harper (age 32) - 27.5 Million/yr
Freddie Freeman (age 35) $25.1 million/yr
Pete' (age 29) $20 million/Yr Currently
I say we offer him $23/Yr for 6-8 years. Cant go above $26 Million and cant go past 8 yrs
Someone else besides the Mets will make Alonso a huge offer
There were too many strikeouts when all we needed was a fly ball, hell even a ground out.
He has 2 good months of hitting and does nothing else. Better option in house than the Polar Bear.
Baty at first. Soto in right ,goodbye Marte. We r set.
Almost everyone thinks Baty is a bust, but he has versatility. He can play 3B,2B and the outfield. I think his bat will come around, He had one really bad month this year with the Mets, and because it was so early in the season, it made his numbers look worse.
so far he is wayyy more productive and clutch in the playoffs than judge. a keeper
But where was he in 2023 and 2024. Two straight years of underperforming. How about all the runners he left stranded this year?
Do not over pay!
Hey Todd Zeile, Pete Alonso “Loves” Money Period.
You can tell Pete Alonso genuinely loves NY, the Mets, and the fans. He has every right to try to get more money, that doesn't mean he doesn't want to stay. Just give Pete something like 7/175
@@kengcarl If Pete is declining like He did this Season at 29-yrs old, His Age 32-27 may be worst than former ORIOLES 1st-Baseman and Power Hitter Chris Davis after He received His Massive Contract.
Good defensive 1B? He's average at best, with limited range. And being right handed doesn't help.
@@QuicknStraight I didn't compare him to Keith Hernandez. He's good but he'll never get a Gold Glove.
Not many teams will deal with Scott Boras. Pete Alonso not all that, move on Mets.
Goodbye Pete. .. Vientos would be a better 1st Baseman and a lot cheaper price... Bye Bye Pete!!!
Keep Him. Do Not Leet him or Anyone Go!
Don’t sign a post prime age first baseman to a big contract. Baseball free agency 101.
What are you talking about? Pete is in the middle of his prime! They considered prime for baseball between the ages of 27 and 34! Look it up! If that's the case, you got another good 4 or 5 years out of Pete. He's a met favorite and he's done a lot for this team. Bring Pete back!
Those long term deals ruin a franchise for years to come

@@michaelcorazzini6869 30 in December a 5yr contract would be suitable
Quite simply, Pete should be re signed at a fair, mutual agreement..
He’s a great at bat and also an amazing first baseman no one talks about that
Thank you!
Alonso is an average 1st baseman at best with a below average arm. He has also been a .250 or less hitter the last two seasons. I like Alonso but I would not break the bank for him. Cohen and Zeile are right. The Mets have options. You have to take emotion out of it and do what is best for the organization. If Pete gets a mega deal then he should take it. I think the Mets will make a reasonable offer and they will be outbid. Cubs and Red Sox are in the market for a 1st Baseman and would offer a lot.
@bronxjar8441 I respect your point of view. But if Pete is an average first baseman, then why would somebody outbid the Mets for his defensive and offensive play?
@@maryanneeag8527Boras is great at finding some desperate owner to overpay for what a player could be, see Rockies and Kris Bryant. More often than not, a free agent signing is an overpay, not a good representation of how good a player will be.
It all comes down to Pete. If we wants to base his decision solely on $$, someone else wil outbid Mets IF Cohen does not allow sentimentality to enter into the calculus. If however Pete is primarily motivated by ending his career with the Mets, and take less $$, then he’ll stay. I would not judge him for opting for biggest contract and leaving. But I do hope he stays. (And has a better year than this one, heroic post-season HR notwithstanding.)

I think it's the other way around. The Mets would love to sign Alonso for that amount. I don't think Pete will accept that.
Vientos at first baty at 3rd use the extra $$ to strengthen our bullpen which desperately needs depth. And pickup a new DH who can really be a reliable batter in the 6-7 hole. Let Alonso go.
If the Mets are going to Win it all, they will have to load up rather than let go. The Dodgers & Padres are loaded as are the Yankees! To get to the top of the hill, these teams will needed to be dealt with. Unless you have enough pitching to quiet those bats, you will have to out-hit them!
It’s a tough call. Do you give up Pete to bring in Soto? Is Soto the guy that leads the Mets to the promised land? Who knows…
Soto is effectively off the table. If he stays in NY, it’s with the Yankees, otherwise, expect him to go to the Dodgers because why TF not?

Pete should not be too creedy and drop Borus.
Id like him to stay but we also can’t be dumb and give a 30 year old 1B more money than the comparable players in his position (Freeman, Olson, and to some extent, Chapman). Stearns will make the smart decision.
