I’ve been super into vocaloid for about 7 years and have been searching for lost voicebanks for a while, it’s crazy how some vbs have been completely wiped from the internet. Private owned or ‘unreleased’ vocaloids are almost always completely lost too since no one knows where their unused bank actually is anymore such as Zhanyin Lorra. In July 2018, it was discovered that VOCALOID5's listing of voicebank icons included Lorra's setup.bmp in her own directory but it is currently unknown why she is there, as she is the only private vocal to be included and no one has confirmed to have her
Yup. Not to mention the fact that Ring and other unreleased vbs have been known to pop up and circulate among some groups within the fandom every few years, so she is out there somewhere
There is a documentary movie about them (I also happen to appear on it for two seconds XD). It is not perfect and it can be confusing sometimes because they keep going back and forth throughout their history, so the timeline gets quite messy. But still, I think is enjoyable. I've wanted to make a full in-depth video about them for so long, but I just can't find the time and there is already a lot on the Internet so...
@@BissoMultimediainGiappone I say do it! I think they're a band that should still be talked about most definitely. :) Mannnnnn I still need to see that doc! I keep forgetting about it. I mean, yeah, the last couple years have been distracting enough as it is! xD
The image of a Moomin with a gun is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. I'm never going to be able to watch the intro of the show without my brain playing 'Gangstas' Paradise'' over it.
Ughhhh. The "lost" X Japan album. Good God, I was around 20 or so when I saw them live in L.A. for their world tour & when they announced the album. I'm 31 now. IT'S BEEN TOO DAMN LONG, BREH. Also, yes! Please do a deep dive on X Japan! Their history is insane
Another fun bit about the Shuusou Gyoku entry is that the trilogy the game is a part of, Seihou, is the sister project to Team Shanghai Alice’s (ZUN) Touhou Project, the famous danmaku game. The people who made Seihou where ZUN’s underclass men at Tokyo Denki University. Seihou’s playstyle has clear Touhou influence in the intricate bullet patterns, but these are less dense while faster than Touhou’s, so although you can more or less see the resemblance, they play very differently.
Hello! I’m a new viewer. I found your channel through a UA-cam suggestion on Meiko Nakahara and I really like your content! I’d love the X-Japan deep dive too because there’s so much to talk about when it comes to them!!
Yet another awesome video on japanese lost media! There's just one small correction I'd like to make, though: not every Vocaloid voicebank has a character to represent it. Some of them are only represented by a stock photo of a random model, or in the case of VY1 and VY2, just straight up avatarless (unless you count Kiki and Roro, though those aren't actually their official avatars). Also, since you also mentioned X Japan: did you know there's a private (as in, not intended for commercial distribution) Vocaloid voicebank based on hide's voice? If you ever do a deep dive on X Japan, I think this would be a cool thing to mention.
I’m not sure if anyone wrote about this in the comments cause UA-cam won’t load .. But Frontal attack is such important lost media because of who it’s composed by. Jun’ya Ota/Zun, the creator of Touhou Project. The hit Bullet hell indie series of Japan. He helped with the prototype and the two mainline games and even published the midi files of his work on seihou on his old blog. Even the unused prototypes seihou songs… all except frontal attacks. It’s the only song Zun has ever lost in his life
Man, when VOCALOID was the biggest thing despite that Miku switched from a VOCALOID to her own entity. And since PowerFX hasn't done anything since Ruby, I almost suspect that Ring Suzune must has passed on to ANOTHER COMPANY... The lost VBs of VOCALOIDs is a big rabbit hole to dig deep down to...
Here’s my two cents of the X Japan album. Don’t quote me on this but I remember reading an article during like 2010-2013 in Japanese magazine about how and why was it taking so long to release. Reason 1. They had hard time finding a suitable guitarist to fill hides role 2. Toshi having still strong ties to the cult had unspecific changes they had to make 3. Yoshikis “perfectionism” dragged the albums completion since the new songs had heavy emphasis on English and Toshi had problems pronouncing English.
Thank you so much for covering these! Now hopefully I won't be the only one looking for the Trigger Label tapes anymore haha 😭(I would also be interested in a Lost X vid, they seem wacky)
I'm part of a Jrock/Visual Kei forum, and the lost X Japan album has become a bit of a meme in the community because of how long it's taken for the album to be finished and the amount of dedication (or lack thereof) that was put into the making of the album by Yoshiki, who seems to have been more focused on public appearances and brand sponsorship deals despite seemingly assigning himself as the main creative force behind the album. Nevertheless, I didn't know that the album was officially cancelled, and it's a shame that after almost 15 years of the band being reformed, they've only put out a few singles so far. Hopefully we might get to hear some of the album in the future.
Another great video Sakura! It’s fascinating to hear about Ring Suzune’s fate, especially considering I remember being extremely deep in the vocaloid fandom in that time period and heard the announcement for her and her counterpart. Seeing those character designs peeled some long forgotten memories off the walls of my brain for sure, and I remember specifically being hyped for her to debut. I never knew she was straight up just never released! No wonder I can’t recall any songs using her voice, there just aren’t any to listen to. I’m always happy to hear about Vocaloid history, so if you ever think you may make some sort of video covering lost Vocaloid media, I’d be all for it! Maybe an iceberg? But that’s all up to you. No matter what you make, though, I’m here for it!
Well I am actually glad the X Japan album became a lost media. XD Back in 2008 I was sooo afraid it would have turned into a very bad release and with all the mediocre songs they released during the reunion years I think I am happy with the situation as it is. After 2011 the still-unreleased album became somewhat of an inside joke between the band members as well, joking about it on stage as well. For all X fans out there who like the early days the most, you should check out the tribute band X-Hiroshima.
Small correction: Miku (and most "Vocaloids"/voicebanks) aren't made by Yamaha. Yamaha created the Vocaloid software, but Miku was created by Crypton. Anyways, I remember hearing about Ring Suzune and wondering when she would come out way back then. Pretty sad to learn she never did! She had such a cute design.
I've been waiting for that X Japan album, and while I've been super snarky about how things have been behind the scenes with the band, I would love to see what that release would have been. Actually Sakura, I think it'd be rather interesting to see you cover the back story of X Japan, especially in regards to non-westerners.
14:46 even though that demo has been lost, you can still listen to what Suzune Ring's vocaloid sounds like! There are apparently a lot of songs under her name on UA-cam. 🤷♀
The inclusion of Moomin 1969 surprised me by how radically different it was. I was definitely not expecting weapons to appear. But man I like how well the Tokyo Treats sponsorship fits. Really enjoyed the fish shaped pastry.
Really happy to see this series back! It’s really cool to be introduced to all this Japanese Lost Media, so thank you so much for that! I would definitely love to see a dedicated video on X Japan. Ah yes. It takes so long for Yoshiki to release an album that it becomes lost media. I think that's completely justified haha. Been waiting for that album since , what ,'08?
Will you do a video about the most mysterious station song for TV Niigata Network (TeNY) called "Yes My Song"? They had a song for thier sign on that lasted from 1981 to 1997 (It was TNN at that time) and sing was sung by Circus. Risa Yamamoto did a cover for that song 5 years after the station's first broadcast but there is no full version for the original song Circus did... Circus did the song first but no full version were found, only Risa Yamamoto's cover. Full version of Kagoshima Broadcasting's station song was released and that is the original one. I'm willing to bet my left foot that the new X Japan album will never be released. I'd like to see it released, but after seeing how absolutely insane some parts of the fandom are, I've resigned myself to the fact that it probably won't be released. Also I'd love to see a deep dive video on X Japan. I'm all for more content about my favorite band on UA-cam ^_^

This comment is very delayed because this video is a year old but as soon as I saw the X Japan segment I knew I had to suggest another jrock lost media to you. To me, the most interesting lost media of Japanese music are the lost materials of the band Devil Kitty, which is still quite obscure and controversial, they would even be an interesting topic.
