  • Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.
The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.
By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

I am so grateful for Hillsdale. My husband told me about the free courses. I read my Bible daily and pray Ephesians 1: 17-19 to increase my wisdom and knowledge in his word. 🙏🏻 Holy Spirit has been my best teacher by far. I also believe God uses others to help us learn his word. Thank you Hillsdale.

Our nation has been in serious rebellion against our great God and Savior Jesus Christ! 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people, which are called by My Name, shall Humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and Turn (Repent) from their wicked ways, Then will I Hear from Heaven, and will Forgive their sin, and will Heal their land. We must turn back to God and His Holy Word, and pray to Him, and seek His face, and Repent of our individual and our national sins!

We need more places like Hillsdale, character building is an eternal investment, it will be nice to change sports (football, basketball, etc.) for trades like agriculture, welding, carpentry, electricity, etc. That would be more useful to the students and the Country.

I had a classical education in Portugal and i had by far the best teenagehood one can dream of. In Portugal we have a school that takes you from 1st to 12th grade, so after 12 years you know your professors like family, and it was incredible. They had a good emphasis in character building, morality, civics and ethics.

"Freedom, Faith, Learning and Character" - wow what a combination of values on which the college is founded! And their motto "Strength rejoices in the challenge". I wish I could be somehow part of this college. In a way, I am part of their college because I'm taking some of the amazing courses they provide for free on their website. I do recommend their courses to all of you reading this. It's amazing and free and you will get a certificate of completion too(for free). I want to thank the president of the college Pr. Larry Arnn for making this possible and continuing the legacy.

Why in the world would you feel threatened by the term “woke?” In my vocabulary it simply means to “wake up” and see the world as it is. There is nothing left or right about it. It’s not political. It’s a spiritual awakening. Why would that bother you? Just asking 💜🙏🏼

@@borncrazynotstupid"Woke" and being awakened are very different. You're confused because you think they are the same. Those who claim they are "woke" believe in many immoral things that Christians do not partake in since it goes against the Bible. Being awakened is spiritual, not political. They are pretty much the opposite. If you are woke, then you are not awakened. If you are awakened, then you are not woke.

I enjoyed a general liberal arts college education in the '70s that taught me no marketable skills unless I'd gone on to be a preacher. I regret not a minute of it. Thinking critically is a skill that has to be taught. It's sorely lacking these days.

Hillsdale: The world needs this - continue being a light for illuminating the paths we need to follow to be knowledgeable God followers!
Today, where semantics mean everything, the term "liberal arts" is getting to be a term that has a negative connotation - for some it is a term which defines what the ungodly is using to educate young adults away from God. Is there another term we can use to give comfort to those who are averse to want anything to do with "liberal arts"? Because the actuality of what you are doing is exactly what is and needs to be done!

Education is supposed to be about teaching the student how to think and equipping them with the tools to do so. My dad stressed English and math because they are two of the tools used to think and communicate those thoughts. I discovered a love for other languages and embraced them. I'm not to sure that Greek and Latin should not still be required.

wonderful to watch Learning Growth, and Facilitate it. It does NOT need Religion. Human Beings are remarkable-- they do not need
Religion. to accomplish. I noted it took until the 9th minute of a 11.5 minute video to admit to the Religion bound up in this.

I agree that religion isn't required. I do, however, think that religion brings much to the table. Just one example is that religion brings morality. There are other examples, but I'm trying to keep the brief. That being said, religion should not be discounted so easily, if at all.

    • @josemedina54

You can learn morality without religion. Or you can learn morality in religions other than Christianity. A true Liberal Arts college should be open to any religion or to no religion at all; otherwise, you have restricted your ability to learn outside the box. Philosophy is about asking all kinds of questions, including uncomfortable questions such as: Is there really a God? @@ualaniwinter3095
