The blue cars around the 8 minute mark are Alpine A110's. Owned by Renault.

Maybe a bit of context for you Ian,
Every day (bar a rest day) they do a stage in the TdF, apox a hour before the first riders pass, the sponsor caravan comes by (what you see here) they trow all kinds of things sponsor related to the people along the route
That's why they can't crawl; they have to stay ahead of the race
Fun fact: before producing cars, Skoda started by producing bycicles and like all the other great stories in automotive industry, they created the company in spite of the arrogance of one of the German bycicle companies who mishandled a repair & service request.
Yes. And Škoda still makes bicycles too.
@@idonotknowwhyyoutubeletsyo5893 Actually, Škoda never made bicycles. Laurin & Klement did until 1905. The Škoda bicycles you can buy now are made by BikeFun, a company that manufactures bicycles for many other brands as well.
08:02 Alpine A110 yeah baby !
Blue cars are the modern version, of one of the most beautiful cars in the world the Alpine A110, a superlight sports car from the 60's
Yeah Alpine have kinda become Renaults sporty brand
The Škoda car company has been one of the main sponsors of the Tour de France for many years.
The European sense for unhinged swag and style can truly never be matched. They have this parade riding in front of the actual race on every race day, for the total duration of the tour.
Every tourday, every year? I’ve never knew this! Do follow the Tour from time to time (radio/tv). Thanks for explaining.
08:04 blue car was Alpina A110
Yes roots have at Renault but differend car maker.
Watching the tour de France live is amazing. On a good day you have 1million plus people watching along the road. And on some of the famous climbs it's a complete madhouse.
Oh this is cool, its the convoy before the tour de france starts, its a couple hours before the actual start i believe. They hand out goodies and stuff too it;s really neat.
You should watch some PoV footage from the team cars in the race itself. You can experience the chaos and stress inside the caravan thats following the riders
8:00 Alpine A110
It weighs 2200lbs and has 250-300 bhp from mid mounted 1.8 Renault engine, because of those figures 0-60 is in 4.5-4sec!
I have one parked on my street, everytime I pass I drool extensively, the proportions are exquisite
Skoda sponsor the green jersey and provide cars to the orginasation and the neutral service cars. Many of the teams also use Skoda superb as their tema car
Been to see the Tour de France many times! The 'caravan' is one of the highlights. They have to move at a reasonable pace to stay in front of the race. Here they are going pretty quick as there arn't many spectators, they'll slow down a bit when they get to the bigger crowds. I'll generally go to some of the famous mountain climbs like Alpe d'Huez where there would be hundreds of thousands of spectators!
There is usually something like 2,500 vehicles involved in the Tour, many of which do the route either before the race comes through or after. Then there are the team busses and trucks which go from the start of each stage to the finish a quickly as possible so that they are ready for the riders at the finish.
At the start of each stage there will be a whole village set up with stalls and events going on which has to be quickly dismantled packed away and transported to the start of the next stage the following day.
The logistics are amazing!
In Finland May Day (Vappu) marks the beginning of the spring/summer, and classic motor parades and shows are part of the festivities. Here's a video of one classic motor show from few days back with all sorts from different eras: "Classic motor show, Lahti 4.-5.5.2024, melkein kaikki näyttelyn autot". Also truck show available (with Finnish commentary): "Retro Trucks Lahes 24 osa1" and "Retro Trucks Lahes 24 osa2". The video you watched seemed like soapbox race with actual cars at times so here's an actual soapbox race from Finland: "Red Bull Mäkiauto GP Suomi".
And they have been doing this for ages. First time I've seen it was in 1986. It was the legendary stage where Lemond and Hinault rode up the Alpe d'huez together.
5:20 - They're like baskets because E. Leclerc is a supermarket chain. They're french and they're present in various countries, even outside of Europe. Here in Portugal alone there are 21 stores. 🙂
Philips /Senseo, Dutch brand of coffee pads and coffee machines.
"dutch" they mostly sell the name to other brands that make things under their name
Škoda (Plzeň, not škoda auto) used to make everything from bolts, to locomotives, not sure if they make bikes (im almost certain they did at some point)
The Brooke 'Swan Car' is a 1910 custom car build by a brit in India. It's housed in the Louwman museum and there are videos of it on youtube.
You could make a fun video checking it out!
I think Skoda has had the official role of chief car make representative/sponsor for the Tour de France, for many years.
The Tour de France is huge! I saw the Grand Depart in 2007 in London! London was absolutely heaving that day! It’s the biggest annual cycling event on the calendar and it is free to watch! In Europe itself, the sport is immense with Italy and Spain also hosting grand tours (3 week stage races). It’s often seen by the parts of the countries it passes through as an opportunity to show off to potential visitors in the global TV audience!
I see things like this every year at carnival at the Rhinland. In towns like Mainz, Köln/Cologne and Düsseldorf.. 😁
I was 2 when my family was on holiday in France in 1986. By coincidence, the Tour was passing nearby.
Apparently we were out in the sun on a blazing hot day for 6 hours waiting for the peleton to arrive.
It eventually whipped by in about 30 seconds...
Those are very creative indeed. They remind me of the carnaval parades I used to go see as a kid, hee! I'm sure there's videos of that around youtube as well, but if you want to see something impressive, look up videos of the Dutch "bloemencorso", which is a spring parade with the floats built entirely out of flowers! (on wood and wire frames, obviously)
This parade precedes the actual race along the course by about 30-40 mins. It's callled the "advertising caravan". The cars are adorned with the corporate sponsors of the teams and the race. Skoda is a long time major sponsor of the Tour de France.
And provider of vehicles to teams and administration. Cheaper than running a team.
Saw a lot of these in Copenhagen when the Tour de France went through in 2022 :)
Skoda have provided the tour officials team cars for some years now, individual teams do their own deals, the UK Sky team used Jaguar station wagons for a few seasons. Ineos own the team now so we may see a few Ineos Grenadiers soon. Back in the 80's Peugeot provided vehicles. The Tour de France publicity caravan is a huge affair with lots of free gifts thrown from passing vehicles and the best bit, it's entirely free to watch. Just pitch up at the side of the road with your campervan or picnic.
I love your enthusiasm, always, Ian! That, indeed, was the commercial/sponsors "ad' cars"? that have been on The Tour ever since it's existed. People love them because they throw samples of all sorts of goodies to the bystanders.
The Tour de France is a great event indeed, during practically a month
i've seen it a few time when i was young with my dad
If you want to go i recommand going on mountain portions (like the Alpes) because the "Caravane" and the cyclists goes slower (and the view is good, you can take the rest of the day to make a little walk or visit villages)
And don't go at the end of the portion because they're is so much people it's horrible
goes like 2-3 kilometers before it, take some food and drink (it's always in summer so hot) and some camping chairs or stuff to sit when you wait
you can get some cool goodies from the sponsors, and some eatables
If you do somedays i hope it will be a good event for you
Cheers from France
It's indeed a Nissan . In the 60's they had Yvette Horner ( a famous accordeonist ) sitting on top of such wagon playing her instrument . This is part of the pre- Tour de France convoy ( caravanne ).
The blue cars, bad-ass looking, following the Citroën, are the Alpine Renault, winners 9f the Monte-Carlo Rallies and consistent winners of other Rallies in the 70s and 80s.
The Alpines seen here are 2023 or 2024 Models.
Very popular with serious drivers.
That is the caravan of all the sponsors of the race and brands that payed for a product placement during the TdF.
There is a sponsor for the leader aka Yellow shirt (LCL car, a Bank whose mascot is a lion) , one for the winner of the day stage aka Green shirt (The skoda car?), one for the best climber aka red polka dot shirt and if memory serves one for the best sprinter (sprint zones marked along the track at redugar intervals plus the finish line).
(If someone knows better correct me 😁)
They have to travel ahead of the race to set up their stands for the arrival "village".
As a lot of people line up along the course each day they travel the same itinerary as the race itself. Dropping goodies and samples to the bystanders.
It is an integral part of the TdF that makes it as popular as it is.
I had the chance to have lived for many years in a place that overlooked part of the last stage in Paris and "La caravane du tour" is a show by itself!
The lambo is sick! 🤣🤣
At Tour de France the green shirt is for best sprinter (sponsor was Skoda in this video). Winner of the day does not have a special shirt.
But there is/was a white shirt for best rookie, too.
@@moatl6945 Thks for the clear up!
if you wanna see more about the Tour de France, there is actually a netflix show about it, kinda like drive to survive. can really recommend
The blue coupé is the New version of Alpine A110S. Built by Renault. 1.8L central mid-engine turbocharged 280hp or 300hp over model standard, S or GT. Based on 70's old version "A110 Berlinette" won the world rallye Monte Carlo in France
You see these before the riders arive in your location(way way before depending on where you are located in that day,my guess this is exiting the city and moving towards its next destination or moving for the next race stage ) in TDF,its a nice experience.
As far as I know Škoda used to be one of main sponsors of Tour de France, providing accompanying cars. Dunno if that's the fact still for this year
Looks like the auto caravan what is for advertising in the Tour the France which runs around 2 hours before the peleton comes passed
I can well imagine that you are also interested in this, have a look into the YT video "Maikäfertreffen und Cruise Night Hannover 2024":
Every year on May 1st, Hanover (my home town and capital of Lower Saxony, Germany) hosts the "MaiKäferTreffen", the world's largest gathering of VW Beetle enthusiasts. This year the meeting took place for the 41st time, with about 2500 to 3000 vintage cars and about 10000 visitors. Mainly VW Beetles in all colors, shapes and sizes, many other VM models but also some other brands are shown. Fun fact: The name "MaiKäferTreffen" is a play on words with "Maikäfer" (Melolontha), an insect mainly found in May here in Germany.
This reminds me of the Saturday morning cartoon ' Wacky Racers.'
Cheers.
You should check out some german carnival parades, if there are some good videos online. They're pretty regionally diverse and I can only really speak to the rural bavarian ones, but there you'll see all sorts of new and old vehicles. Where I live, a lot of it is older tractors or emergency vehicles, etc.
I spoted a Citroen C3 Pluriel. Nice car to delve in to.
The best thing during the Tour de France is the caravan.
Personally it's the only thing that make me wake up early and wait hours.
Plus they throwing at the crowd tons of stuff like hats, pens, goodies and even food or drinks.
Ian, today has started the WRC of Portugal, the fifth of the calendar. Rally of Portugal is one the best of the calendar, probably "the" best. Chek it out.
Yeah. The Tour de France is something special.
The Mercedes pick up trucks are Re-badged Nissan Navarra trucks.
Mercedes re-designed the front panel lights and the grill, on the back they got tail lights in a different design but when you look from the side you will see a Nissan in a Mercedes trim.
Green jersey is for the fastest sprinter, yellow jersey is for the nr1 in at the moment in the Tour the France and so one. White is for the best Young racer i believe.
Polka dot jersey is best climber i believe ?
Green jersey was historically the sprint leader, but now it is the point ranking leader (or second, if the leader is also wearing the yellow jersey), which was historically the white jersey. So, on principle, it is the most regular cyclist on the leaderboard who wears it, but it is usually a sprinter who wears it as the sprint give more points while difficult roads like montain roads give less.
The yellow jersey is the overall time leader (so not necessarily the leader of the day, but the leader of the whole event).
The white jersey is the overall time leader (second if the leader wears also the yellow jersey) for the cyclist who were less than 25yo on the first day of the event.
The polka dot jersey is the mountain point leader (or second if the leader also wears the yellow jersey)
HaRiBo stands for the inventors first and last name and the location of the Factory: HAns RIegel BOnn. FYI. Thank you for uploading and many greetings from Mannheim, Germany. Markus
Ok so I’ll explain the jerseys and sponsors thing, It’s like the nba and the awards sponsors (Rookie of The Year presented by Kia for example):
- yellow jersey: the 1st place standing, presented by LCL bank. Formerly named Crédit Lyonnais, from the city of Lyon, hence… the lion’s mascot. At the end of each stage the 1st place standing receives a lion’s plushy toy.
- white jersey: the U25 1st place standing (best youth cyclist), presented by Krys (optical chain) since 2015.
- polka dot jersey: best climber, presented by Leclerc supermarkets chain.Ssome points are awarded at the top of the passes depending on their difficulty level. 4th category to Out Of category ranked by 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, OO Category. 4th category is easier, OOC is like Alpe d’Huez pass, so it awards way more points than a 1st one for example.
- green jersey: best sprinter, but not only. Presented by Skoda indeed. Some points are awarded on some flat road segments of the stage, to make the cyclists sprint and entertain the audience. At the finish of the stage, more points awarded. Means that an escaped from the peloton cyclist can win points in those segments without having to sprint with some sprint specialists 🤷🏻♂️.
I’ve been to some stages, and yes it’s fun, basically you bring your picnic and have fun with other people like in a concert 😅 the caravan throws goodies to the people on the side of the road, Senseo can throw some coffee capsules for example. When we were kids we used to show off with our « war booty » 😂
And yes it’s biggest sports event company in the world, ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation) that rules the Tour de France, ASO is… of course, french. They organize marathons also, car desert rallies like the Paris Dakar (you certainly know it) and so on. www.aso.fr/en/
About Alpine A110 R (blue car in the video)
ua-cam.com/video/dquYg6qWxjI/v-deo.htmlsi=B-CE67cS3rxA58EQ
blue cars are Alpine A110, Its a refresh of the original A110 from the 70s
..blue cars looked the recent Renault Alpine..
The "Tour de France" Caravane is something special. Not only for the cyclists...
Your enthusiasm is contagious... 🎉😅
You should check out the parades for the Spa 24hr race.
The blue one is the A110 by Alpinecars, a really affordable sports car with incredible driving fun. A newer version of the old Renault Alpine Sports/Racecars
..looks like promotion for the coming " Tour des France"
Hello, and thanks for this video. If the Tour de France is, every year, the largest free sports event in the world, it is thanks to the TV, but also to the sponsors you see in the caravan.
4:18 is, those are Nissan trucks, hence also followed by the Nissan pick-ups, Navarra I think they're called? based on the same car as the Isuzu, they kinda flopped bad for a while as so many of the Nissan and Isuzu pick-up trucks got recalled because their frame basically would break, a friend of mine worked at a car wrecker, so when visiting him there, there'd be like rows and rows of at the time fairly new Isuzu and Nissan pick-up trucks stacked 3 high, all recalled cars to be crushed, no one was allowed to even pick them for parts.
Those "light trucks" as they're often called though, are unique, as there are versions of then that can basically get registered as a van, so you can drive them on a normal drivers license, as they'd be under 3.5 tons, but their cargo would be very limited as you can't go above 3.5 tons total weight with cargo either.
Welcome to Europe mr IW rocker
Skoda is one of the sponsors of the grand tours, like Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España. They provide the escort cars...etc.
Blue cars are Alpine A110
aaaah yes, the tour the france caravan. More fun then the riders passing 😂. Have got some t-shirts and bottle openers from it.
Greats from belgium
Merci pour la vidéo , le Tour de France c'est tout une histoire :)
This is the Tour de France bike caravan
This is part of major bicycle races like the Tour de France. Before you see the cyclists (zipping by in 2 seconds...), there is a whole bunch of advertisement, promoition and sponsor's cars and trucks passing by. Really nice to see and to stock up your stock of candies, goodies and whatever stuff because it is thrown to the spectators on the side of the road.
The "blue cars" are Alpine A110. The sport brand of Renault. Extremely beautifull cars. I can feel relief for the miss of such a beautifull car in the fact that i drive a Renault Cio RS 200hp that is made in the same factory in Dieppe in France...
Forget Disney Land in Florida, come to Europe IWrocker...
I think this is the convoy of event sponsor vehicles at the head of the Tour de France, probably quite a way in front before the Peloton arrives. They got to move quite quick because those athlete cyclists dont hang around!
7:57 Alpine A110
Still open to show mi citroen where only 4 of them are left in the Netherlands
Your Miniature is not 2CV,Is Dyane.
Dyane is very close to 2CV : Same châssis, same engine, but more classy
Ah, the Ariat hat again…. Makes me want to stomp around in my boots.
White trucks are NISSAN ATLAS /CABSTAR also available under other names.
This is the advertising caravan which precedes the passage of the runners. They throw promotional items, samples, various things for children....
Tour de France is one of the most fun events and you should see the Olympic flame event too that was something amazing to watch. Most people think we French are stuck up people but that isn’t true when we have fun we have fun. Should see our gay pride events they are so creative
skoda provide the team back up cars for the race
lion is a French masquot bank, sposor cycle race Tour de France (big yellow guy.. Blue car is new Renault Alpine
A bunch of cars dressed up to advertise local products. Chicken farms, laundry detergent, cabbage, cookies, hotels, restaurants, tires, Škoda bicycles/Škoda's tour de france sponsorship...
The blue cars are Alpines, the French sports cars from the 60s
Except that these are the newer models which are still available (as far as I know) :)
14:14 those are nissan cabstars
Dont't you know the Alpine A110?
Do a reaction to a preview video about it.I bet you will want one after.
Hello from France
The car with the lion is for the bank Credit Lyonnais.
the one with the chickens is the Le Gaulois company which sells poultry. There is currently a controversy over their breeding method
At 5 minutes 24 you have the Leclerc supermarket
This is the original Alpine A110 Rallye Car - ua-cam.com/video/9nvPgqmYH4A/v-deo.html
This is how I imagine I would drive it, if I could fit in one - ua-cam.com/video/-11A-FtTibs/v-deo.html
How many 3 wheeled motorbikes did you see ?
I think they are sponsors, and they throw little gifts to the people who are on the side of the road
Welcome to BE and our crazy 'Fondness' of road cycling 😀Forgot to add, the cyclists are doing 40 to 50 Ks an hour, so yeah, these guys need to ride fast 🙂
A lot of cars and motorcycles on the road with the riders. They get hit sometimes.
See some of the motorcycles have 3 wheels
conti ftw!
Leader of the Tour wears yellow.
If you want to see a real parade you have to look at carnaval in the Netherlands.
I love it to see you laughing 😂, in you would like to come to Germany, i would like to invite you to my House and we will eat nice german sausage and Drink a german beer 😅😅😅🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Those Mercedes pickup trucks are rebadged/reworked Nissan Navaras.
🙂
You can't say European like that! It's like me saying American when talking about Mexico or Canada. Each country is so separate and different, it just cannot be thrown onto a pile of "European" . Nice video though just change the title is what I'm saying I guess
i swear for so long while barely paying attention, i was like wtf is a 'sitch owan'.
I don't think Michelin makes bicycle tyres
Michelin make bicycle tires, but bast majority of UCI Pro-Team uses or are sponsored by Continental or by Vittoria
Second Like and First comment here. :D
First !
Respect: you were faster than the bots😃
Bro you need to google how to pronounce Citroën. It’s kind of like ‘Sit-ren’.
