I feel sad for our country. WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY ARE WE FACING PROBLEMS AFTER PROBLEMS COMPARED TO WHAT PNG WAS SOME 10 -20 YEARS AGO. Is PNG heading for disaster??? There's a lot of questions I want to ask but right now I'm just more concerned and also scared at the same time wondering what the future holds for my daughters in PNG in terms of basic Government service delivery. 🤔🤔😮‍💨😮‍💨🥲🥲😪😪 Thanks Bro for highlighting this serious issue as a matter for discussion and hopefully it gets the attention of Parliament. KUDOS!👍👍👍

There needs to be a massive audit on PNG Power. Where is all the money going? How hard is it to manage this company? I think PnG power management and board are all corrupt.

Our leaders in Papua New Guinea are threatening the West by suggesting that we might allow China to privatize PNG power. At this point, it may not be unreasonable to consider leveraging the expertise of a more advanced country like China to help rebuild our electrical infrastructure. The troubling aspect is that our leaders seem more focused on creating a crisis to manipulate international funding rather than genuinely addressing the issues with our infrastructure. Their actions make our country appear foolish in the eyes of the international media and seem aimed at scaring the West into sending more money, which is then used to line their own pockets and fund their lavish lifestyles. Instead of collaborating with the international community to find a solid solution, they seem intent on making us look bad just to secure more funds. It's a sad reality.

PNG power as an organisation has failed. I don’t see how seeking aid is going to help when the organisation responsible can’t run properly

I dont know how much Papua New Guineans expect to keep getting from China or the West.
We keep expecting others to fix our issues but are we prioritizing the upkeep of critical infrastructure such as our power grid, roads and budgetting for it. Do we also plan for preventative maintenance or new projects and budget for this? Is this captured in our National Budget? Does the money actually go into ensuring this activites are realized?
The Government should also consider introducing legislation to prevent the government of the day from dipping into the coffers of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) when they lack funds for their specific areas of interest. SOEs should be allowed to operate and maintain themselves independently with funding from the Government that lessens over time to allow those struggling to get back on their feet.
Noone should blame CEO's or Director's of SOE's now who are looking for money to maintain or run projects they planned for in their annual planning but no longer have the funds to see it through. CEO's and SOE Directors are likely looking for funding because the KPI's that they need to achieve to meet their performance indicators as an organisation and also for them as the head of that organisation will most likely not be met. Making excuses around funding year in and year out gets old especially when you are answering to a council or board.

I think the fault not only lies within the government and how it manages its state owned assets, but also amongst the people. I mean everybody's pointing to the government, and that may be true, but not everybody's coming out to say that yes there is a huge problem with illegal power connections in this country. Its almost become a norm. There are a variety of reasons that has accumulated to this point, such as population size, manpower needed, funding, a relatively small to medium working class workforce, tax evasion, policing and many more. I think the mentality and attitude in PNG has also played a major role. We definitely need to change this mindset of what the country will provide for us. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" quote by John. F. Kennedy. If you rely too much on your country and your government, you will be let down. What the government should do is create laws that enforce security guarantees for its people. Man you steal, your fingers or hands cut off, White collar crime, life time imprisonment, tax evasion or sketchy career or business background ban from country and or licensing revoked with hefty fines of 100,000,000 kina and up, and so on and so forth. I think we really need a two state solution. One where people are honored and uplifted by their good services to their community and country, and one where people who don't respect rules yet expect everything to be given to them and where rascals can be members of parliament.

For those of you who don't know, PNG Power has only two profit centre's, that's POM and Lae, the rest of the country does not make a profit. How can you make a profit and grow when you make a loss every year. Because electricity is a right they have no option but to keep every other centre powered.

The government of the day needs to stop play businessman and give up all state-owned agencies. As long as government state agencies exits then all losses will be funded by the taxpayer and competitors will not be allowed into the market to allow for true market prices. Members of parliament need to come back to the basics and work on creating laws that will protect the people and investments and not make things harder.

It is common knowledge that PNG Power Ltd like all other SOEs is not performing commercially well. Its about time to privatise it to private players. Whoever.takes over and runs power generation, transmission and distribution in PNG does not matter, so long as they can do it in a commercially viable way and get return on investment while importantly ensuring that uninterrupted power is supplied to households in PNG.
The worst thing we should fear is Western Media like Seven 7 News of Australia trying to stir up geopolitical game and instilling fear in us. China is not bad. China's record is one of helping and building. Australia on the other hand has a record of colonialism and massacre of indigenious people. We should fear the West more than China.

Also on a security level if we sell out to china and war breaks out, ba yupla kamap columnist country?
    West Papua part 2 yah
I don’t think png knows what it’s doing and it’s scary for the future.
Btw why sell out png power. What can’t you recover from within your own means ? Asking for aid is lazy.
