I agree! Typically it's people that bought them when their young, stopped playing but can't let go of them 😢 like seeing a classic car rotting away in a field 😢 thanks for watching!
Awesome find! Love that era of Ludwig’s. Killer re-wrap project - the toms look to be in great shape. Thanks for the continued-awesome videos. Be well everyone!
Shawn, you are truly The Drum Whisperer. You continue to make unbelievable finds and incredible restorations. I love watching what you do with drums. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing a small part of your life with all of us.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I got a clear interior 6 ply kit with white wrap, sprayed painted red. First I sprayed black over it, then stripped it and had my buddy do the edges and re-wrap it in red glitter glass. Good thing too, the edges were terrible. Oh and has a 26" kick! The interior and edges on that kit look great, definitely gig and studio worthy.
I have a Parade snare of the same vintage, took the chrome wrap off-it is a job, that metal is thick and they glued it all the way around with some good old school glue-be forewarned!i initially thought i'd clean it up and leave it natural but it really is a mess!,gonna paint it dark blue, large gold eagle decal, some clear, take it from there. have made up a couple of old snares using weed wacker cord for the "gut "snares, works pretty well.
One thing you might want to try that I did with old beat up Slingerland Black Chrome set was to use a 60 grit palm sander and do straight lines top to bottom to get a very cool pattern that looks almost steam punk like. Look up etched metal wall art to see the technique. I love how the Slingerlands turned out
@@shawnsdrumcavethat kit would be a perfect candidate and turn what looks like ruined into what companies like A&F Drums charge thousands for in character in their finishes
Cool Kit Shawn I have an early 80’s COW kit 26” 14”16” 18” you know in case I need to summon The Hammer Of Gods lol mine wasn’t nearly as bad as yours but it was a lot of work people make fun of these drums but they sound really good! Nice Job on the Quick clean up
Thank you 🙏 if it were those sizes I'd rewrap it in chrome! Sounds like a killer set. I had another one but in very nice condition a year or so ago it was 12,13,14,16,24 looked just like Roger Taylor's tri tom queen set. They are great sounding drums!
Shawn if you have an email address I would love to send you a picture of my kit I’m the original owner although it was originally a double bass kit with power Tom’s and a coliseum snare it’s in lot different now do to space constraints
I just wiped it down to neutralize it, I have used bleach and or "wood bleach" with varying success but typically not much you can to about the stains.
hey shawn bro , lookin for anything cheap or for trade perhaps , i am in central pa though , if you know anybody let me know please , i am a oldschool 80's drummer , thanks > tom !
These Ludwig Drums were obviously sitting in the water. It's too bad that people do this to such a great drum kit. I would call Jammin Sam and re-wrap it.
Turned out great! If I was younger, I would gig that set in a heartbeat. I’d do it today, but my back just ain’t down for that now. I didn’t realize how heavy these things were until a couple of weeks ago when I got a chrome over Vista floor tom with some other stuff. OMG! Definitely a house kit of some type. Thanks again for these videos. Sometimes I feel like they are aimed right at me!
@@shawnsdrumcave don’t I know it! I have a ‘57 WFL Club Date, 13-15-22 that I rescued a couple of years ago. Using the Tama flat base stands with it. That is the best gigging kit. Super light and sounds great.
Very nice considering what you started with Shawn! So a question for you. I believe we have similar taste in music. So for rock & metal mostly, what's your favorite size kick? I have never had larger than a 22. I keep looking at 24 & 26, usually drooling. My newest kit has a 18x20. I like having the 20 but seems to lack something. The punch I think. It actually has very good low end. I tried 2 18" kicks and know they are not for me. I am looking at a Pearl Fiberglass kit right now that has a 14x24 (I also have another Pearl Fiberglass 22). Also considering a kit in Bonham sizes. Lastly, a nice Maple custom kit that has a 18x24. Which seems too deep to me, but just because most of the big kicks I see are pretty shallow. So, what would be your kick dimensions if you only could have one kit.
@@Spagz yes, that would be helpful. I've had my hands on so many sets over the years I just know what I like. A lot to do with the feel for me but sound as well, I like the way the beater feels on a 24... definitely a 22 or 24 for heavy rock/metal imo
