I haven’t seen a big boys in so long. I grew up going to this restaurant every Wednesday night because my mom loved the battered fish. This was in Connecticut. Great video. Happy holidays to you and your family.
We'll have to try out the fish next time. We bet it's delicious here. Thanks so much for watching, Laura. We hope that you have Merry Christmas as well and that you stay warm with this upcoming cold snap coming through.
That is so awesome, @Kathy Walters! Congratulations to you both on 53 years too! Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a wonderful weekend!
Omg as a kid my grandparents took me and i would eat the fish and chips EVERY time. I didnt think this place existed anymore. It was in wisconsin right over the illinois border. I miss this place!
Brings back great childhood memories with family, @Candy! There are still several remaining. When we checked their website, they are not showing any remaining in Wisconsin or Illinois. The closest location to that area would be Indianapolis, IN. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you! We hope that you’re having a wonderful weekend!
Thank you for watching, PT_II. We always enjoy seeing the big boy on display in Sevierville when traveling to the Smokies. We’ve always wanted to stop To see the story behind that one and to know if it once belonged to a Big Boy in the area. We hope that y’all have a Merry Christmas as well. God bless. 🎄 ✝️ 🎁

Thank you so much, Brandon! We really appreciate you for watching and for your super kind comment about our family. We hope that you're having a great New Year's Day and thanks again for watching.
Funny… my first job after graduating from Miami University was being a manager for Frisch’s. I graduated in December’89 and so a few days after Christmas my mother saw me lounging on the couch watching The Price Is Right and said “when are you going to get a job Peter??” to which I replied “I can find a job in a day”. She told me to get to it then. It was a choice between Bob Evans or Frisch’s. I learned so much in one year as a manager there compared to college. Still to this day my best job as far as learning the ropes of the professional world. The onion rings are made fresh in house daily. The standard on them is being perfect. Hot fudge cake is still exactly how they made them years ago. Of course the Big Boy is the best. Get XTS -> extra tarter sauce & even dip your onion rings in it. Ahhh the memories
That is so cool that your first job was at Frisch's. I (Brent) had many friends who attended Miami University in Ohio. We bet that you learned all kinds of valuable skills working there, especially dealing directly with the public. While it's been many years since we've tried a big boy sandwich, this was the first time we've ever tried the hot fudge cake. It was incredible. We will take your suggestion and get the XTS next time. That sounds amazing to dip the onion rings in it. We really appreciate you and thank you for watching, Peter. We hope that you and your family have a Merry Christmas.
Thank you! @William Bennett, we are so glad that you enjoyed our video. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We appreciate you, and wish you a Happy New Year!
I grew up in Wilmington and with Frisch’s and we all loved them. It was our hangout and there were cruise ins like Happy Days. Back then it was all good fun, not the kind of kids that SOMETIMES show disrespect. If I understand it, Shoney’s, Bob’s Big Boy, and Big Boy are different from Frisch’s. I’m 70 yrs old and I sure hope they are around for a long time longer. Everything they have is great. IMO, they have the best onion rings, hot fudge cake, fish anywhere. And they are right…tartar sauce on burgers is fantastic! My favorite family restaurant!
What great memories, Dianne! We agree with you - we hope that they stick around, and that they are a great, family restaurant. Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you’re having a blessed weekend!
Yes! It's great to hear from you guys. Coincidentally, we filmed a video in Hillsboro last weekend. That video should be up tomorrow or on Saturday. You're so right - those hot fudge cakes are amazing. While it's been many years since we've tried a Big Boy sandwich, we've never had one of the hot fudge cakes until this video. We've definitely been missing out. We hope that you guys stay warm with this upcoming cold snap that's coming in and that you have a Merry Christmas.
It's sad that so many Big Boy restaurants have shut down across the U.S. I've heard of Abdow's. Was that in Michigan or in the Minnesota region of the U.S.? Big Boy sure does have some great food. We hope that you have a Merry Christmas, Marc.
Fisch's has always been a staple here in Cincinnati, the vanilla coke is the best. They started in California as Bob's Big Boy and the Frisch's brothers from here in Cincy bought a few franchises and spread from there.
We will definitely ask for their vanilla coke next time - That sounds really good. Thanks for letting us know aobut the history of how Frisch's BB branched off from Bob's Big Boy. There used to be Shoney's Big Boys down here in Tennessee but the moment Shoney's went solo, they started to go downhille. Thanks for watching, Chris. We hope that you're having a great weekend.
Awesome looking food. Very interesting putting tarter sauce on a burger. Definitely worth a try. Hope you all have a very merry Christmas. Safe travels and God bless.
Thank you, Carrie. We agree - it's the strangest sounding combination but it's delicious. We're going to start putting it on our burgers here at the house to switch it up from time to time. We hope that you have a very Merry Christmas as well. Thank you so much for watching, Carrie. God bless.
Great video. Haven't had a Frisch's Big Boy in decades. Last one was when we lived in Florida and that closed a long time ago. May have to try a cheeseburger with tartar sauce. Also, the dessert reminded me of one I had back in the day when JC Penney's had a cafeteria in the store and they had those.
We have seen them sparsely located in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio but haven't seen many elsewhere. If you guys end up trying a cheeseburger with tarter sauce, you'll have to let us know what you think. We never got to try the one in JC Penney's but we bet it was amazing. We couldn't pass up trying it since it was free. Thank you guys by the way for the Christmas card and sticker. We appreciate y'alls support and enjoy your channel as well. We have a Christmas card that's on the way to you guys as well. Merry Christmas!
Sounds like a great meal, @ClearlycaribbeanReb! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and wish you a Blessed New Year!
In the 70 s it was shoneys big boy and when I was in children hospital all I wanted was the burger and my family brought it evertime every week it was so good with their fries !
That is awesome that your family was able to get your favorite meal to you while you were in the hospital, @kimberly cornelius! Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having an awesome evening!
Thank you, @K Lacy It is very similar to Shoney's. Shoney's used to be a Big Boy years ago before breaking apart from the Big Boy franchise and going solo. Thank you so much - We may create a best of Henry video one day for sure. lol.
i have a frisches big boy just 1 mile away in dayton ohio and we love it ,back in the day frischs had the best strawberry pie with whip cream ,the big boy is fantastic ,i want to wish you and your family a very MERRY CHRISTMAS
That’s awesome, @Frank Carone! That strawberry pie sounds delicious. We agree that the big boy is fantastic. Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you and your family have a wonderful Merry Christmas too!
Really enjoy your videos. I took my family to the Big Boy in L.A. and got to sit where the Beatles sat. Of course my daughter could've cared less, lol. Also, got to a Frisch's Big Boy in Hamilton, OH. I love their burgers!!! 🍔 Thanks for the Ponderosa vid. Miss that place.
Thank you, @Jonathan Griesy! We are so glad to hear that you are enjoying our videos. That is so awesome that you got to sit where the Beatles sat. We love Frisch’s and their burgers too! Ponderosa brings back great memories for sure! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and we hope that you’re having a great week!
That's really neat! that your mom was a manager there. We love Chicago....especially Lou Malnati's pizza. We wish that restaurants like Big Boy would make a return. Thanks for watching, Rhonda.
That my favorite dessert of all time yummy and delicious food really yummy merry Christmas guys XOXO stay warm and safe out there there secret sauce is delicious 2 on fries
@Michelle talks Gh, we agree with you - it’s so good! We hope that y’all are staying safe and warm too! We wish you and your family a very Merry and Blessed Christmas!
Great video. Love a big boy and onion rings. Henry is the man and he wears his name well. There are some great Henry's in this world. . Just a lovely family and a great channel. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas ya'll.
Thank you, Don. We really appreciate your kind comments about Henry and his name. That means a lot. We're with you - Big Boy makes a really good burger and those onion rings are just as great. Thank you and we hope that you have a Merry Christmas as well.
And, you can also buy a jar of it there or at the local stores and, it’s good on their onion rings as well! Try there tater sauce on a hot ham and cheese sandwich, it’s yummy!
The food looked good but that free dessert was calling my name! Loved Gentry's reaction to the cake! Looked like a good family place to eat. We have eaten at a Big Boy when traveling before but it's been awhile. Great job as always!
@vafunseekers, we really enjoyed everything there. That cake and the hot fudge topped off a great meal! Gentry really enjoyed the hot fudge cake. It is definitely, a great family restaurant. Thanks so much for watching! Hope y’all had a great trip to Tennessee, and made it back home safely. We wish your family a blessed and Merry Christmas!
❤I grew up going to Kips Big Boy in Fort Worth Texas. My sister and I were members of the Big Boy Birthday club until we were 12. Would receive a coupon in mail for a Big Boy Burger. Kips are gone now. My dad and I got Big Boy Burgers. They had a sauce similar to McDonalds secret sauce on the big mac. They had a seasoning on the table ❤that was like seasoning salt that I put on each bit. My twin sister and I loved their hot fudge sundaes with the fudge❤sauce in a little cup of the hot sauce to pour over the sundae topped with Whipped cream and toasted almonds 😋. We also liked the chocolate milk shakes. They had fresh strawberry pie with strawberries put in the cooked pie crust and a strawberry thick syrupy mixture poured over it and topped with whipped cream. My mom has made them. They have something for everybody in the family.
I would give anything to transport back to Frish’s big boy in 1999 when they had the breakfast buffet bar. I remember the blueberry French toast with unlimited bacon was always my favorite and the fresh cantaloupe.
@Scott Lofton, that is awesome that you have a local Big Boy. That burger sounds delicious! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and we hope that you have a wonderful weekend!
I had no idea that there were still Big Boy's around. They always had such good onion rings and burgers. I agree with Brett...the tartar sauce makes the burger. Their coconut cream pie is like no other...YUM! Now I want one..lol. A bit far to drive from Southwest Virginia to Ohio tho..lol. My little city still has a Tastee Freeze...and it still does an awesome business. Hope ya'll are having a great week. Merry Christmas and God bless!
Frisch’s & Big Boy -while similar in looks - are actually different chains. They all started under Bob’s Big Boy & soon franchises sprang up all around the country. Somewhere along the way, Frisch’s was its own entity of Big Boy in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. I even think Shoney’s is part of Big Boy
We've seen a few scattered throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. You're so right, Cathy, the tarter sauce is what makes the Big Boy so amazing. We'll have to try the coconut cream pie next time - that sounds really delicious. Our favorite coconut dessert was at Bahama Breeze called the Coconut Grande, but sadly, they no longer serve it there. We didn't realize that Tasteee Freeze's were still open. If we're ever in the SW Virginia area, we'll have to make a stop there for sure. It has been a great week so far. Merry Christmas to you as well, Cathy. God bless
Most definitely, @Ramsey Gilbert! We love spending time together, and we enjoyed a great lunch at Big Boy. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and we hope that you have an excellent weekend!
Brent, this really took me back to memory lane when I would go visit my grandmother in Cedar Grove, WV. We would always go to the local Big Boy aka Shoney’s at the Quincy Shopping Center. I could just see her there enjoying her Italian Feast. Such sweet memories and thank you all for taking us along. You are such a wonderful family. Gold bless. ✝️❤️
Melissa, we're so glad to hear that this Big Boy video brought back some great memories for you. We love that Big Boy still maintains the old fashioned diner feel and we enjoyed hearing about some of the memories that you shared with your grandmother here. Thank you again for your kind comment and for watching. Have a great evening, Melissa. God bless
Gentry loved the breakfast buffet here and they had a really good selection. We no longer have Big Boys in Tennessee so it was nice to visit this one. Thanks for watching Zeke. We hope that you have an awesome day.
I swear Brent, sometimes I swear you make these videos just for me! My first memory of eating in a restaurant was chili spaghetti at Frisch's covered in parm! It's still available here in Indiana tho I didn't see it on your menu. I even worked there as one of my first serving jobs when I was young! And Gentry you got that 💯right, their breakfast bar is outstanding~~everything is good on there! Jennifer looking pretty as always and Henry you got some on your shirt son! Lol it's okay....I'm still your biggest fan 🥰 Great video as always...and I am wishing your family the happiest Christmas ever! 🎄
Ohhh....thats chili spaghetti with parm sounds AMAZING!! I remember as a kid, getting Valentine's Day cards that had free kids' meals. It's so rare to find any restaurant that has a kids eat free option anymore. That's so neat that you used to serve there. We just read your comment to Gentry and he said, "thank you Candace - the breakfast buffet is the only way to go!" lol. Thank you for your kind comment about Jennifer and Henry. We really appreciate you, Candace. Thanks for watching and we hope that you and your family have a Merry Christmas. Stay warm with this upcoming cold snap coming through.
Gentry really enjoyed the breakfast buffet, @PB&J. That cake was so good, and the hot fudge made it even better! Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you have a very Merry Christmas!
I live in Ohio but I don't know where Wilmington is, but I'd be willing to travel there just to have a big Boy Burger! I grew up with elby's big boy and I sure do miss it!
Wilmington is almost directly in between Cincinnati and Columbus. Not far from I-71. Depending on where you'd be driving from, we saw several of them along I-71 during this trip. Thanks for watching, Kevin.
just subscribed tonight. we had a bob’s big boy in woodbridge, va, in the 70’s or so. it had the exact same “cartoon” icon boy on the front of the restaurant.
We’ve never tried Bob’s Big Boy. Someone was telling us that Bob’s serves their cheeseburgers with thousand island sauce, while Frisch’s serves theirs with tartar sauce. Do you remember this as being correct with Bob’s Big Boy? There’s definitely some nostalgia in seeing the Big Boy statue. We hope that you’re having a great evening, Gail.
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV Bob's Big Boy in California serves their burger with red relish and mayo, however some of their east coast locations did serve 1000 Island sauce instead, along with Elby's and Shoney's back in the day. Frisch's always uses their famous tartar sauce on their burgers, which I prefer the best. In Michigan the national Big Boy chain also uses 1000 Island sauce.
We have a Shoneys in Dickson TN (35 min from me) that is almost the same menu and everything and I remember as a kid there were Shoneys Big Boys all around.
That is so awesome, @Maria Medina! Shoney’s and Big Boy bring back great childhood memories with family for sure! Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you’re having a wonderful week!
great video, i would like to try a big boy burger. there used to be a frisch's big boy where i live in florida back in the 90s but they went out of business. i never got around to trying it out :(
Frisch’s closure. We are certainly saddened by any closure in our community. The restaurant industry has struggled and is still experiencing workforce issues and out of control rising food costs. We are sorry to see the closing of Frisch’s, as it has been a fixture in out local community for many years. I would encourage all of our community members to Shop Local!”
Big boy is big here in Ohio, I grew up eating their. The big boy with the tarter sauce is what you have to get, I would get the super big boy, it's a bigger, hence super . Lol give it a try.
We'll definitely get the super next time. We've tried their breakfast buffet many times in the past and are big fans of it. We wish Big Boy would expand more locations back down to Tennessee. It's so good! Thanks for watching, Larry. We hope that you have a Merry Christmas.
Different deal here on the west coast Bobs big boy which the 1st one the original is in Burbank ca , I went to a bobs big boy in norco ca the big boy consist of mayo , and a red pickle relish for the dressing that’s if . No tarter sauce
We’d love to try out a Bob’s Big Boy Burger at some point. We haven’t been back out to California in a few years but on our next visit, we’ll plan to try one. Thanks for watching, Frank.
You're so lucky. We don't have any Big Boys in Tennessee but we'd love to be closer to one to try another big boy sandwich. We hope that you have an awesome day, Maeve.
Did Kips Big Boy serve the burgers with thousand island or with tarter sauce. We were recently told that different franchises used different sauces. Thanks so much for watching, Deb K. Have a great evening.
Elias Bros. is the Michigan franchise now known as just Big Boy, and the national franchisor of Big Boy. They franchise Bob's Big Boy in California and operate Big Boy restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio. The rest of Ohio outside Cleveland is now licensed to Frisch's, an independent Big Boy operator no longer affiliated with the Michigan corporation.
There are 2 Big Boy restaurants remaining in Cleveland, Ohio, now operated by Big Boy of Michigan, but no longer subfranchised as Bob's. Originally in Cleveland they were Manner's Big Boy, subfranchised by Frisch's. Manners developed their own white sauce similar to Frisch's tartar sauce. Later Marriott acquired the Cleveland market and converted the Big Boys from Manner's to Bob's Big Boy. Now the Cleveland locations are part of the national Big Boy chain of Michigan, while the rest of Ohio is served by Frisch's as an independent Big Boy operator. I am unsure if the Cleveland Big Boys serve the white sauce or the 1000 Island sauce like Michigan.
That’s so cool, @Black Tractor! What is your favorite meal there? Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We wish you a Happy and Blessed New Year!
I love their spicy tarter sauce…. Pour them on the burger or sandwich and their onion rings as said in the video are incredible… dip them in the hot sauce and I will become owen from total drama before you know it….
Mmmm, spicy tarter sauce. Now that sounds really good. That would really enhance their burger. lol - that's hilarious about your Owen comment. We appreciate you, LC
Great question. We’ve heard that some of the Bob’s Big Boys are still around. Frisch’s Big Boy can be found in the Kentucky, Indiana, and southern Ohio area.
I love frischs, but it can be very hit or miss...the breakfast is outstanding, and the big boy and buddy boy are my other go-tos. Everything else ive ever had at frischs was trash...
We are big fans of the big boy sandwich and breakfast buffet. Jennifer enjoyed her cheesesteak too but we definitely can't speak for the rest of the menu. We've heard that Big Boy was not what it used to be years ago. Thanks for watching.
We were told after we filmed this video that Frisch's Big Boy uses a unique blend of tarter sauce, where Bob's Big Boy uses a thousand island blend for the sauce. Thanks for watching, Reagan.
Living in Ohio I have access to 2 Bob's Big Boy in Cleveland Ohio and Frichs Big Boys on the west side of Ohio both great company's the Big Boy is different at both restaurants people come to Cleveland and they will say something is off. Frichs Big Boy and Bob's Big Boy do have some minor differences
@wm3293, that’s awesome that you get to enjoy both Big Boy restaurants! Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you’re staying safe and warm. We wish y’all a wonderful and Merry Christmas!
@Every Day Is Saturday you too I see you guys went to Ponderosa great place they closed Niles and Calcutta Ohio locations now Butler Pennsylvania Columbus Ohio are only ones left for me and my friends. We just went to dutch valley amish restaurant in Sugarcreek it was delicious
One main distinction: Frisch's uses tartar sauce on their burgers while Cleveland locations may use either a similar white sauce or the 1000 Island sauce. And Cleveland locations will use the modern, west coast Big Boy mascot/statue while many Frisch's locations have the older east coast statue outside their restaurants. And the Cleveland locations are now just Big Boy, as they have dropped Bob's and are operated from Michigan. But Bob's locations remain in California, although they are contracted by Michigan, the national Big Boy operator. Frisch's is now an independent Big Boy operator in the rest of Ohio except Cleveland, as well as Kentucky and Indiana. Frisch's has been planning to expand to Tennessee. Shoney's is no longer a Big Boy franchise.
@William Nolan both Valley View and Broadview heights big boys use the Manners Big Boy Tartar sauce by default on are big boy burgers but they will make the big boy with Bob Wians original recipe (California sauce) or with Michigan sauce upon request. yes Frisch's Big Boy is a totally separate company nowadays but alot of North west Ohio locations have west coast style Big Boy staute which is kinda puzzling lol
@@wm3293 Thanks for updating. The Ohio white sauce is also known as Manner's tartar sauce, inspired by Frisch's, who had originally subcontracted the Cleveland market to Manner's. But good to hear you can select the Michigan style 1000 Island sauce or the California red relish if you prefer. And some Frisch's use the older East coast statue, while others use the west coast statue created by Bob's Big Boy.
@Mike Singer, they do have a wide variety of sandwich choices on their menu, but we did not see a tuna melt on the menu at this particular location. Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you have a very Merry Christmas!
We'll definitely have to check out Bob's. We've heard that they use a thousand island based sauce instead of tarter sauce. We'd like to try that out. Thanks for watching, Andrea. We hope that you had a great weekend.
We are sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience at this restaurant, @James. Thanks for watching, and we hope that you have a wonderful week ahead!
Bobs big boy was started in California. He invented the big boy burger, but he used mayo and red relish. For some reason the big boys in the Midwest use tartar sauce! Yuck!
The combination of tarter sauce with a burger sounds terrible but I really enjoyed it. After the video, we were told that it's a special blend of tarter sauce that they use. We'd love to visit one of the Bob's Big Boy locations to try the red relish and mayo version of the Big Boy sandwich. Thanks for watching, @Lawomenshoops
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV here in California, Bob’s sell tartar sauce in bottles at grocery stores. It’s good with fish. But I would never put this on a burger.
@EvanSutton2015, we are sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience at Frisch’s recently. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We wish you a very Happy New Year!
@blush baby - Henry was the 34th most popular boys name in America the year he was born, so there’s a lot of toddlers out there with this name. We’re sorry to hear that you’re unhappy and displeased with his name but to each their own. We absolutely love his name. Thanks for watching.
Hello from Gatlinburg!!
Hey there, @The Gatlinburg Hussey! Merry Christmas!

Fisch's has always been a staple here in Cincinnati, the vanilla coke is the best. They started in California as Bob's Big Boy and the Frisch's brothers from here in Cincy bought a few franchises and spread from there.
I am from NKY their food is tremendous!!
Super big boy, onion rings, hot fudge cake, and fish sandwich to go. 👍😂
This really looks similar to Shoneys. We love Henry! Especially when there's ice cream involved. We need a best of Henry video!

The Frisch's tartar sauce is legit!
We agree! It's amazing and so good on their burgers. Thanks for watching, NovaSimPilot.
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV We had a wonderful trip and made it back this afternoon. Merry Christmas!
I have a Big Boy in my city. The Brawny Lad is my go to. It's a burger with butter and a thick slice of onion on a rye bun.
@@PJL7095 I did not know that. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!
God bless
Fun day with family and enjoyed Big Boy
God bless
In Denver we had Azars Big Boy. I think they all closed in the 80s. They had a great breakfast buffet.
Lol it's okay....I'm still your biggest fan 🥰
Great video as always...and I am wishing your family the happiest Christmas ever!
My very first job maybe 45 to 48 years ago was Frisch's in Cincinnati
We just have Elias Bros. Big Boy, here in Michigan. Same menu.
You're so lucky. We don't have any Big Boys in Tennessee but we'd love to be closer to one to try another big boy sandwich. We hope that you have an awesome day, Maeve.
We used to have them here under the name of Kips Big Boy. If my memory isn't failing.

I miss Bob's big boy in Cleveland
They sure do have some great burgers. We’re sorry to hear that Bobs no longer exist in Cleveland and we thank you for watching, Odeh.
Haha my wife and I's 2nd house is 2 mins from there. Ate there all the time til we rented it and moved to Cincy.

What happened to "Bob's" Big Boy?
Great question. We’ve heard that some of the Bob’s Big Boys are still around. Frisch’s Big Boy can be found in the Kentucky, Indiana, and southern Ohio area.
I am pulling for big boy.
Big Boy is awesome, @Uncle Chuckles! Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having an awesome evening!

We are big fans of the big boy sandwich and breakfast buffet. Jennifer enjoyed her cheesesteak too but we definitely can't speak for the rest of the menu. We've heard that Big Boy was not what it used to be years ago. Thanks for watching.
on the big boy hamburger, to bad they put tarter sauce on it instead of the red relish that they allways had on it. then adf some mayonaise. delicioso
We were told after we filmed this video that Frisch's Big Boy uses a unique blend of tarter sauce, where Bob's Big Boy uses a thousand island blend for the sauce. Thanks for watching, Reagan.
I like there big boy !
I bet they did not have a Tuna Melt
@Mike Singer, they do have a wide variety of sandwich choices on their menu, but we did not see a tuna melt on the menu at this particular location. Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you have a very Merry Christmas!
