Ladyshelab: here is how you trigger the mermaid expedition quest: Since you are in summer wait until day says summer 22. When that day arrives march yourself over to the docks. Reset the diving location. Then chose to dive. This will trigger the cutscenes. Because THIS QUEST IS LOCKED TO A PACIIC TIME FOR EACH SEASON! And you have to do each season as well. However after the first 2 days another quest will open in the mermaid kingdom but it REQUIRES THE MERMAIDS TO BE ON LAND FIRST!
As far as I know insects don't walk into the traps, they're spawned in there when the day turns over. Otherwise I doubt I would have gotten 8 insects in my 8 traps placed right next to each other. I placed butterfly traps the day before a windy day and was able to pick up a Blue morpho butterfly in the windy morning. That means you get two chances per windy day as long as you empty the traps that day as well.
The only place I’ve seen someone catch the great white shark is while they were standing on the boat that is connected to the dock but I’ve never played the game myself.

Oh yes I also heard to approach the insects not behind them but the direction Infront they're flying off to.
While it is spring plant at least 50 turnip and lettuce (wild seeds). Collect the shells on the beach too, you will want them later.

I have placed my dehydrators along my path from the fast travel to my bed. That way I can empty all the scavangables on my way to bed.

And you need 2 of the same species in order to breed them ☺️
