Watching from Canada. I have a baofeng bf-f8hp. Was a pain in the batt to get one inn here. Could not buy it from Amazon, had to buy it from some website in the US. I got two. We use them to talk to truckers during road trips. Every time we see traffic, we ask them for advise on which detour to take.
I just saw one online it’s perfect for my radio it goes through all the bands, I’m going to order it
Hi.. nice video..
After 2 years, it is the best option..or is there any other newer , better way to extend the range of our handheld walkie talkies??
I got one yesterday. Doest give me any range. So now I do some troubleshooting. Hope its not garbage.
Thanks for the video. Yes more contacts one to one and /or dx repeaters with and without the amp used should be interesting...and certainly more so with say a diamond 10 element yagi from home and/or a hilltop. A directional antenna would make a big difference as you realize...
How hot did the amp get ?. Also did you do a power output check when warmed up. Andy G6OHM
With how much power are you allowed to transmit? Have a nice day!
They're a handy little linear, surprised you didn't mention the insanely loud power on/off beeps though, maybe its just mine.
Do you ever think about doing your intermediate? My plan is to give it a few years and do my intermediate and full one after the other as i don't like the 2E0 prefix.

nice field test .same rules in US HAM with higher licence supervisor get you on with there call. in US I can do it with non licence with me right their. great to help a new HAM getting started. I mess up call some times as well. I have GMRS as well and is different call. we only human . maybe you can put a inline power meter and DC ammeter. go from battery to engine running. you can do tis in you shack with adjustable power supply into a dummy load. 73's
I was monitoring but only managed to get the odd snippet from Mark, M6GOF. I was only using the whip antenna on my TYT MD390... not the best of setups when you are at zero ASL :-( .... thanks for the video. 73
What cable to use in order to conect it to Yaesu FT3DR?
Hey whats up with your license. And having low power regulations. Here in the u.s. I believe we can do up to 100w with the first license
You guys have a *Lot* more territory to cover. And it's not all about raw power. With the right conditions, you can get halfway around the world with only a few watts. I'm on the middle tier of the UK 3-tier system and that limits me to 50w. The full license here has a max of 400 if memory serves, however, there are reciprocal agreements with many other countries once you're at the full level so unless you're in another country with that agreement with the UK that has a higher max power on their licence, us Brits can't go more than 400w. You've also got the cost of the electricity as well to consider, plus we're more "bunched together" housing-wise in the UK so there's more scope for interference with the neighbours if you're banging out more power than the local FM radio station!
Another great video. Anyway, you are still a lot luckier than I am. I have been an M6 since January and all I have had are two QSOs.... on Echolink on my laptop. I'll try to fish up the link, but I have seen a video here on UA-cam about someone saying 2m and 70cm are dead. He was trying to encourage the amateurs to start using the bands again. 73 de M6VMO.
Are you working that little radio off a repeater are you direct
You also said it works on 400+ megahertz can you use it on the radio that is 136 to 174, then 400 to 520 kind of spread across all those bands
Ringway Manchester I don’t know, I had a repeater programmed and I accidentally deleted it now I’m having a fit I don’t know how to program it again I got lucky the first
Probably work better if you lower the wattage to 5 watt input
Retevis rt50 or rt81 ? what product to buy?
That's a very nice set up from k2csx Bronx New York
Could you do a video on DMR simplex how to. I think it’s really under known. Cheers. VK1MIC.
Hey Wade, I'll add it to the long list of videos I have in the pipeline so stay tuned :)
I really wish I'd have done my exams for HAM Radio when I was younger. Used to be on CB Radio (Handle: Polo in Huddersfield).
never to late and your m6 isnt really that hard. you should go for it
Glynn H hey, thanks. I would but I've an implant to my brain and I can't remember for the life of me things, so there's no way I could do it 😥.
its only 27 questions and you need to score 19 to pass, im sure you could do it mate. you could guess 19 easily its 4 multiple choice answers with some even on the form you get with your quiz paper
Glynn H hmm only 27 ? I'm sure it was more than that 20 years ago when I took the RAE as it was called
its a cracking idea sweing as there isnt much in the way of high power mobile stuff available for ham radio. All of the commercial stuff is good but its far more expansive than this option. I like it Lewis can ya tell? lol
Good demo, how come you took a pic of me at 5m 4s, 🤣
It's a bit of an annoyingly inconclusive test. On my hill, a couple of people were hearing you - but you weren't hearing them. I think DMR has a set receive where it's pretty much all or nothing to break the receive. Now, if the amplifier had a pre-amp or you were to use a higher gain antenna the QSO's may have been more successful. As I mentioned to you, it could be worth seeing if it breaks into a patchy DMR repeater that's outside of fringe coverage (a worthwhile test would be to be in my neck of the woods and try to hit the Isle of Man DMR repeater, as you can get Snaefell repeater on FM).
Would also help if you can get a QSO with someone running a Motorola or DMR rig that can give out a genuine RSSI signal report.
And if you had of done it illegally with CB or PMR446 you would have made loads of contacts...... And heard alot of people at work and heard school's and stuff.....
I don't think much of digital Audio
Drops power due to overheating
Anankin i have the highground how high? 10m hahha boomer get schmacked i got 100 hhahaha every radio op :) (yea i know not everyone but chill)
btw what i find weird is that u got him ~60km away and i get that all the time with 5 w
robotic sound anoing
@Nikola Gnječ Hi Nikola - agreed. I just can’t get my head around why Hams would want to spend loadsamoney on digital equipment just to destroy their speech! There were/are perfectly usable systems such as analogue HubNet and EchoLink/IRLP-connected Repeaters and Gateways which can be used by existing and less expensive analogue radios that don’t give you a headache trying to understand what is being said!
Digital DMR/D-STAR/Fusion - biggest commercial con-trap that Hams have fallen into!
Doesn’t detract from Lewis’ excellent videos, though. Keep ‘em coming, Lewis.
I really appreciate your videos, well made.
enjoy your radio product
reviews simple and easy to understand, and your
field test of your radio gear is extremely well made.
greatings from Texas.
Cheers George!
@@RingwayManchester I know this is an old video but, throughout the later half of the video there is a dude “acting” like he is taking pictures. It is clear he is trying to listen in and suspicious of you LOL. Go to 11:38 in the video and watch for a few seconds. You will see the same guy return back and take a picture of your license plate, HAHA. Wonder what he thought was going on……. Like your videos and been watching a while. Your advice has been pretty much perfect.
