Oh my Goodness. What an amazing video here from John. Starts by making chisels and demonstrated his super cdollection of Chisels and Fullers then moves on to demonstrate his creativity and how to use these tools. Most of us newby's out here starting out on limited funds could only dream of creating projects like the Bird or Flower project and the Candle Sconce... Thanks for your superb educational videos John and sharing your skills with us.
I agree with the pricing you spoke about, people tell me I should sell some of the items I make, but no one would pay the price it’s actually worth due to the time it takes to make it.
Wow John I really like that work. I would love to learn how to do some of that. My daughter like that stuff also. Maybe we could take a class together. Whatever it takes to stay close to your kids in very important to me. So thank you John for sharing and helping my kids and I get a little closer....thx again...Paul
You have a huge amount of skill and craft and knowledge in every way with working with your bare hands and with tools. Iron/wood/concrete it doesnt matter. Im not jealous but this keeps my focus on what i want with my Life. So, thank you. John!
Once again thank you for all share. Enjoyed this one most especially because since you kicked out the heads up on the Rocky Mnt. Smith's UA-cam conference s and the first demonstration being Erinies' I've been completely motivated to step back and make tools for use in my work. Love what the extra tool work does to a piece and can't wait to see how I do with the basket weave now that square punches done. Ty
Awesome John. I have been doing a skull from sheet metal I found from scrap. I found that it's a whole new direction in metal working and so much fun but definitely you'd need a wealthy customer if you were selling. So time consuming but as I said so fun and meditative. I haven't tried any decorative repose work yet, got to finish this project first. I just do a bit here and there and it is popular with my facebook followers when I post an update. Thankyou for the video.
Indeed you have an interesting collection of chisels. Did you make the canvas that stores them? I've never seen one that big? Thanks for the info on chisels.
That was a great video. as a beginner blacksmith you have my mind racing with ideas. Id love to see more on this type of work.Do you have any videos on this or can you suggest any? I know you said to take the class but that is just not an option for me right now.
I might not be able to make any money at it but I sure could make my own sconces and some things for my wife I think it’s an amazing art and you should show all of us how to do it John
The class was taught at the John C Campbell Folk School. classes.folkschool.org/Browse.aspx The class offerings change from year to year, but there is always something good
I assume you use something like a piece of mild steel to backup your material for chisel cutting, but what do you prefer for chasing material like 16 gauge sheet?
Hey John, do you think your channel would benefit from a short intro clip to play at the beginning of every video? I know you've been experimenting with different types of video production. While I do know a thing or two about animation and writing music, I don't think I could promise anything. Just putting the idea out there.
I have thought a little about it, but haven't decided on anything yet. A few people have sent some things but I still haven't had the time to take a serious look at them

I love how every skill enhances another. Nothing is a waste of time. Looks like it's turning colder out there
That is what you call priceless work.
Can't wait for the video on the hand embossing, sounds like a lot of fun (stress relieving)
John that was just wonderful the effect that chiselling leaves is superb.
Thanks John, looks like it's a tad chilly with the wall gone.
As open as my shop is, it isn't any colder. But it is a lot more drafty.
Very cool! I tooled leather for years, so that looks like a new challenge.

So, thank you. John!
Nice overview
Thanks for the peek into the art of Chisling and Chasing. Gorgeous.
Thank you, john. Enjoyed this one a LOT!

Fantastic John. I've never contemplated how sheet metal embossing was done. Excellent........🇦🇺🤠

I think I saw the post you made the other day. It looks awesome.
@@BlackBearForge Thankyou John for your compliment.
Love your videos btw, you are a great asset to the Blacksmith community. 😊
This guys the Bob Ross of blacksmithing.....
You are not the first to make that comparison. Maybe I'll have to grow my hair out.
Awsome, would definetly like to see more of this.
I really like it. Would like to see more detailed video of how to make that.
Great job John :-) looks like you used a little repouse work on the leaves as well .
True, sometimes I am not sure where one ends and the other begins.
Nice work! Thanks for sharing
That’s awesome!
This is Amazing. Thank you.😇

My wife made the tool roll. But after making several similar, she has sworn off of them.
realy nice work ive been designing a large 12"x4 mulberry leaf project today would love to see more on this technique thanks for sharing
As things settle down around here I will try to add that to the list of video ideas

I will be showing some of the techniques, but not the specific projects that Ernie teaches in his classes.
First cold snap of the year? Your rugged up well!
It was supposed to dry today, instead it snowed lightly all day. It was a muddy slimmy day to pour concrete.
beautiful workk. nice tool roll. can you share where you got it
Its one my wife made. She doesn't make these for sale though
I want to take Ernie's class but need some information about it. If it's not too much trouble

John would leathercraft tooling be the same as what you did in that class. It looks like the same style or work man ship.
What do you place underneath the sheet metal as you chisel and chase?
nothing for most of the work. Mild steel as a cutting plate when cutting through and wood or UHMW plastic if working from the back to add volume
Thank you.
I assume you use something like a piece of mild steel to backup your material for chisel cutting, but what do you prefer for chasing material like 16 gauge sheet?
That’s a lot of work hours and patience involved in the final product.
John, looks like you did some chasing practice on your coffee mug as well. Ha!
No, that involved more advanced techniques
Nice work, someone would pay but the customer base is very small!
