Glenn Jerome Everette Thanks! That was surprisingly good for a low-fi hand recording. Had to watch two or three others after this. Cool to see a symphony orchestra taking on something different. I'd like to hear a professionally recorded version of the songs I heard in the videos.
This was so awesome..I was not to far from you when u recorded this....I was sitting in front of the guy standing and partying 🤣...Mayday is a young man I met when he was struggling and trying hard to get that techno music out in the D..I'm so proud of him
The electrical storm going on behind the concert was breathtaking. I really felt that the evil spirits of Yam-ko-desh were being exercised from the soul of Detroit!
Superb video! Thanks for capturing. So sick I missed this epic event. My intention was to enjoy from the boat but then the weather became super duper nasty so we hightailed it back to shore.
+Fred Fungus I love orchestras... and I love techno. I'm open to this type of experimentation and respect it, but I have to admit I don't think it's all that successful. The novelty wears off... and it's just not that exciting.
This track was produced LONG before techno became a "novelty" and I would hardly refer to Derrick's musical style as repetitious. Far from that. It’s not easy to mix, which is why you don’t hear it in a bunch of Boiler Room mixes. Now that’s repetitive shit that's about as common as seeing another Honda Accord roll down the road. Techno, house, the club… they only became novel when the music industry saw the chance to make money and put out the product to consumers. Now days its trendy just as modular sets are all the rage now. Pretty much any club or party experience is all trend because that is how the dj's, promoters, and indistry make their millions. Every venue now is safe, legal. The music appeals to as large a group of people as possible, no chances are made on the dj's part any more. There are very few dj's out there putting out sets that are spontaneous, raw, or even dangerous. Derrick is still pretty wild behind the decks and I wouldn't put him out of his original context of Detroit just yet.
Techno isnt' the novelty. The idea of putting a live orchestra to techno is the novelty. The few tracks (like strings of life etc) that were written WITH an orchestra obviously work well, but trying to retrofit orchestra over other techno tracks just doesn't work. For example in some of the tracks the entire orchestra are just doing offbeat stabs... it's overkill and just unnecessary, doesn't add anything, and isn't as tight as computer sequenced stuff.
omg!!!!omg!!!!OMG!!!!!!!

313 techno
TakeOff At 01:30 Xlent!
did they do "it is what it is"?
I'm so sorry for the musicians of the orchestra
electronic interpretation of changing the melody is too slow and does not work well with a live orchestra .....Too repetitious

I agree with you 100 %

Tell that to Phillip Glass or Vladimir Martynov.
