If you look closely, you’ll see that the horizontal stabilizers are actually upside down airfoils that push the tail down (along with the elevators). This is a good thing especially for the 747 because the upper deck in the front makes the 747 much more nose heavy than other planes.
That was a very smoggy day there in Los Angeles. The 747 is such a beautifully designed a/c, much nicer looking than the A380, which looks like a pregnant guppy.
Why on earth is a classic American airline like Delta veering away from using the 747? I simply don't understand. I heard they are discontinuing the use of the 747. How very disappointing.
+Chris Noe Because sadly the ugly 777's were so called "Better then the 747" and oh yeah Air France Had 747 now they have ugly A380 Damm that plane is ugly so sad
I actually was told that Delta doesn't like overhauling their airframes. If they do retire the other nine they should sell them so that way they can meet a better fate than scrap.
I consider such information as a betrayal from Delta, they should be proud of the Boeing's 747 legacy. The undisputable Queen of the skies. Greetings Mr. Chris.
Delta got all 747 from NWA, the planes were pretty bad shape and went through major refurbishing, but they are flown by former NWA pilots, and mixed crew of delta and NWA cabin crew.
I've literally always wanted even now as a teenager with fantasies I wanted to own a 747. It's very special to me. Yes, I have been on one which was Northwest Airlines it might have been a 400 but I don't know if any ex-Northwest 747 pilot could tell me that would be helpful.
I'm not an ex NW pilot (I wish) but I can tell you that NW was the launch customer for the 747-400 and their first flight with the -400 was in February 1989. However they still flew the 747 'Classics' until September 2007, when the final -200 flew for Northwest as Flight 8 from Tokyo Narita to Seattle. I'm sorry as I know this doesn't answer your question but it might be of interest anyway :)
I agree. Delta's colors just feel bland, a white fuselage with the airline's name and a distinct tail. NW's pre-merger colors had a light gray main body, but for me it's the old bowling shoe livery that still brings back the most pleasant memories of flying. Checking my ticket records (yes the nerd in me keeps all paper tickets) I have flown on every NWA/Delta 747-451 during my numerous trips to China. Delta is still flying N661US, the very first production 747-400 (also involved in NWA85 incident). Sad to think Delta is retiring their 744s in 2017, 15 years is too young for some of their newer 400s. Overall the redtail Queen of the Sky has carried me hundreds of thousands of miles in safety and comfort, and I salute the old bird and the pilots.
I totally agree with you, but I'm glad that Delta even has a new livery. When United and Continental merged, United just stole Continental's livery. But the American/USAirways merger made the best livery.
I LANDED THAT PLANE I SAW SOMEONE RECORDING THE DAY BEFORE THIS WAS PUBLISHED IM A VETERAIN CAPTAIN IN THE 747 777 A330 767 AND 787 I EARN ALOT OF MONEY AND IM NO KID IM 37
In behalf of my GODBROTHER MR. ROGELIO RIVERA who happens to switch his handcarrybag to that of MR. ARNEL CEPILLO, last january 21, 2014, Detroit-Manila flight, I would like to THANK Delta Airlines NAIA office for facilitating the return of their respective baggage. Especially, Mr. Jeffrey Nepomoceno who trusted me after presenting documents that I was the contact person of Mr. Rivera. GOD Bless You Guys.

Great job & awesome "Queen of Skies"! Congrats!
Boeing 747 is hands down the most beautiful bird in the skies.
It's a shame Delta will be retiring the 747-400s, and replacing them with the Airbus A350's in 2017.
+Chevroletfan123 I think its the 727-200 but its a great aircraft anyways at least its better then the ugly A380
shame on nazi delta
Have a nice flight, your majesty!
hahahahahahaha once queen always queen
long live the queen
I am still amazed and in awe when I see such a huge beautiful airliner take off. Even after all these years, flight is still incredibly marvelous.
Awesome capture!!
Those Pratts sound so beautiful

always between 6:30am to 7:30am the 747 of Delta used to pass everyday over my house in LA
❤
No, not exactly, Delta was flying 747s in the '70s, starting with the 747-100. Visit Delta's Wikipedia page.
Impeccable, magnificent.

I completely agree with you.

Michael Rideaux that is legit my fav part. God its so freaking amazing
Is it just me or every time you play this video there's never a commercial in front of it....
Amazing plane !
Smooth landing.
Love it
Wow that's a big plane
Its this a new plane?
Mega flaps for a mega plane! Man!
Where was it headed ?
RIP 747-400 you are missed
airbus a380 can't even come close to The Mighty Boeing 747! Boeing 747 after 40 plus years, is STILL QUEEN OF THE SKIES!!!!!
Well, the Airbus A380 is getting a chance... The 74SPs, 741s, 742s, 743s, and 744s are being retired, and the 748 is suffering poor sales.
Joaquin Pinto no one wants A380

...... must have been practically empty to take off at the 5,000 ft marker!
Awesome! :)
Nothing compares to the full double decker Airbus A380-800.
Flying Owl
bullshit
Daniel Savani A380 is crap
Majestic
Where was he inbound from?
was that going to tokyo?
What is that vapor coming off the wings? Sometimes you'll see it in the engine intake.

leonelp51 Thanks for responding to my year old post. -_-
✈ SamNetwork ✈ didnt saw the date.

It looked better in Northwest's colors, that's one from the NW fleet. DL didn't have 747's.
Same with Deltas 757-300s. They were originally NW before delta.

Joaquin Pinto I miss the shine of the American Airlines planes
this Delta 744 with their PW engines are so dirty smokers !
Nope. It Was a Delta Airlines Boeing 747...

Farewell 747
Delta had 0 747s before it's merge with Northwest.
can any one tell what's beoing called
Boeing is called Boeing... I don't get you..
Haha at the takeoff u can see all the birds flying away
Why don't Delta use 747's on any European routes?
Here is a playlist of videos I made from inside the flight, taking off from various places. ua-cam.com/video/5q_oqFBHcd8/v-deo.html
They just only change the name
Only cause he said a word in arabic doesn't mean he is harmful

Nope, they stopped making 747-400s in 2009. The only version of the 747 still being made is the 747-8.
Delta is so shit because they kicked Adam Saleh off the plane
Racist or what
Labbaika Rizwan Holy shit you're an idiot. They kicked him off because he was being an annoyance to the other passengers.
Ok
Ok
