Every single one of my Gecko's, crested, leopard, even my false chameleon, drinks from a bowl. I still mist every day. But, they definitely all drink from their water bowls. I put a bowl of water in all my enclosures. Just my personal preference.
Omg same always have water bowls for my reptiles. I have a uronastyx and a lot of care guides say "You don't need a water dish" but I gave him one and he DRINKS ALL THE TIME. I'm just glad I'm not the only one Lol 😅
I'm fairly new to the Dave Kaufman channel. It's clear to me that Dave knows his stuff. What I really appreciate is that he's letting her talk and explain her point of view. He asked questions , and she answers them. This was a very well done interview. Some interviewers are only there to show how much they know on a topic. That's not the case here. Thank you, Dave.
Gorgeous geckos! I want to see them all. My crested and mourning geckos all soak and drink from bowls but they also like water droplets. I am however a paranoid reptile mom who gives every option possible jut in case…
Crested Geckos are by far my favorite lizard. Mine have never had a tail lost. I think if you keep them together they will hop on each other and have a higher chance of losing their tails, so I keep each one in one of those vertical cages. I give them crested gecko food, crickets, and water. I also pick them up frequently and they’re super chill. They like to fall asleep on my stomach because it’s like a heat rock, and they also like to chill on my shoulder. They’re absolutely adorable with their eyelashes, their smile, and of course their crests. They don’t get too big either. I would recommend them to anyone who can just do the research and keep them correctly, which isn’t hard. Spray em 3 times a day and yeah give ‘em a water dish. I give them a ledge with 2 different bowls for food and water. Highly recommended.
Thank you for all that great info! I just love learning, and learning about animals in particular, but I'm considering in the future getting my own Crestie. Would you happen to have any favorite Crestie Care guides or knowledgeable UA-camrs you would recommend for great info for folks thinking about getting one?
I enjoyed the variations. Her geckos are beautiful. However, I am lucky enough to have a husband capable of building large, bioactive enclosures. An animal is never going to get the exercise it needs in a tub. We adopted/saved a blue tongue skink being kept in a large plastic bin. She now has a beautiful, naturalistic enclosure, as do our geckos. Her demeanor changed night and day. No thank you to bins.
100%, I understand that it’s sometimes necessary for breeders but this shouldn’t be the ideal, ESPECIALLY for semi arboreal reptiles. In my country keeping them like this is actually heavily discouraged.
Completely agree! I can tell she loves her cresties and the enrichment is great, BUT there is no absolutely no space. Especially for an arboreal animal. They need height and room. Makes me very sad to see them in bins.
I love that Emily says the emphasis is enrichment for and care of the animals. Before I started watching your videos I had never heard of keeping your pets in racks. 3 yrs on I realise that my old view of pet keeping was more about what I wanted. i.e. Beautiful enclosure with something amazing to look at and there is nothing wrong with that. However the animals needs must come first si if the bin is better for the animal that should be what we do. Rattleon
It’s in no way, shape or form better for the animal. How would keeping it in a tiny box without a proper day and light cycle be better for it? This is all for convenience for the breeder and definitely not the ideal of keeping them.
Having a crestie, you just know or feel when they are about to jump. I love that about them. I also like how she shared some of her tips and I did not know they will live so such a long period of time. Like ball pythons, hard to keep up with all these new morphs.
Yeah and you can always redirect them towards climbing by just doing the climbing hands thing. They always want to go vertical or nearly so which makes them predictable.
Great video. So much knowledge from someone who has spent years caring for them. Great info for beginners or even expert keepers. You never stop learning as a reptile keeper. Amazing room also! You can tell she's put a lot of work and care into her room. Beautiful geckos Emily!
Reminds me of the movie the Barrowers. Lmao Borrowers (or crested geckos) are quiet... Cautious... Inconspicuous... Alert... Brave! And very good at climbing!
Personally i would put both of the last two females shown on a diet they are pretty chunky and that could cause unfertility as well. Its not healthy for them breedingwise a bit more than average is good, but not to much. Just remember the optimum look of a crestie is what we saw in Davs New Caledonia trip videos... pretty slim not to chunky
I agree, especially the last one, I don't understand how someone who claims to be such an expert justifies showing off an obese gecko on a reptile channel.
I would say in most cases crested geckos don’t soak in water specifically cause they don’t absorb water the same way and it’s actually a BAD idea to bath them unless they’re dehydrated because it can make them sick.. I have a water dish in my crested gecko tank too and if they need to soak I’m sure they will but just for new owners know baths are NOT the move! Unless you have like a bearded dragon or something because lizards do definitely gain hydration for the skin and the beardies can’t have humidity in their tank so having water bowls can be a bad idea for them because they’re desert lizards but crested geckos are tropical and already get all that water on their skin too much is a bad idea
cool video. i;ve been trying to collect houseplants that originated in new caledonia for my cresties, and if i cant find a new caledonian species of plant, then i look for a similarly shaped and structured plant from elsewhere based on whats at the gardne centers up here in the usa. if i can come by seeds, i might try growing new caledonian fruits too.
The number one thing I had, and seen, cause death with crested geckos, is dehydration and overheating. The can die quite fast if they are too warm without hydration within a week. I will never keep them without a water bowl. All of my cresteds when breeding would drink from a water bowl. And yes, nightly misting.
That is so cool and great ideas and can't wait to see what your next adventure and maybe one day will take my own crest gecko or leopard gecko they are all so cool
Love those bins so busy! Excellent for keeping hem comfortable and easy to check on. I kindnof underssd's tand the debate on bins but after so many videos of knowledgable experienced keepers frankly I think thry are just fine. Snake Discovery has some absolutely beautiful animals in enriched racks and they are perfectly fine. Just do whats right by the animal and keep their minds safe and interested! Love all these babies
Dav do really support Cresties in bins? I see Emily dearly cares about hers but there is no space for exercise or climbing for this very arboreal animal. I just can't get behind it.
Emily is lead zoo keeper at a ABA certified zoo…. Has had crested for very long time, this IS someone you get behind. She has been premier breeders for high quality crested geckos in south Florida.
Can't say I'm a fan of the racking at all, that is not the correct way to keep animals, especially crested geckos which have been documented to utilise light radiation to their benefit. A dark tub is not going to ever provide this and by her own admission in the introduction it's for her ease which is quite selfish. I myself gave my crested gecko a 3ft high and 2ft wide enclosure with full spectrum lighting and it used every part of that tank. As a side note, there is a definite correlation between geckos kept in (small) tubs and geckos that have lost their tails. I imagine its due to the stress of confinement. Actually quite disheartened that someone with an audience as big as yours is encouraging this low level of husbandry.
Crested gecko racks ??.. just don't own that many if you don't have the space. There's no exceptions to that lmao, They're natural climbers. He literally questioned keeping them "room temp" in a video but not their natural arboreal behaviors? He finds them feet high in trees.
With? Did she purposely cause them to drop their tails so they would fit into those little round bins? She's overfeeding them too. How disappointing. They're so sweet.
Dav..is there a way I can reach you? I'm looking into starting my own boa breeding business...I would like to make note of any advice you can give to help me get started the right way.
I honestly don’t get why people are having their geckos tails fall off. I have 3 and it’s never happened. But yeah I can imagine one’s that breed losing their tail. I’ve nailed paintings to my wall and my geckos have been gone because I instilled a sense of safety in them. They know no actual harm is gonna happen. That’s my opinion.
Did she say a sonic boom caused a lot of her gecks to drop their tails? We have a lot of severe thunderstorms here. Will very loud thunder cause them to drop? I really wanna get one now lol
We have a lot of monsoons in the summer where I live with thunder and everything my crestie still has his tail. I do put a towel over his tank and I think it helps muffle the noise for him.
Looks like most of her geckos dropped there tails and she blamed it on a sonic boom ha what a bunch of malarkey! I’ve been keeping cresties for over 10yrs and never had one drop there tail because I DONT CLOSE THE LID ON THEM.Also if you get one never touch there tails always pic them up by putting you had underneath there chin.
Crested geckos are super super likely to drop tails, it’s not like a leopard gecko where it takes some effort. Some will drop it even if their hear a loud noise
The conversations on this channel are interesting but for the sake video format, please consider some B roll so we can look at the things you're talking about instead of watching a person talk.
These are some really awesome cresties, I feel like cresties get far too much exposure though. I'd like to see more variety in the future, virtually every reptile channel except NERD has a back catalog of crestie content and it's just not very exciting or creative.
Is it me or are some of the females a bit overweight? This is a completely genuien question, since im not that deep into cresties so I was wondering. I don't mean this in a rude way.
I normally love all of your videos and have nothing but good things to say about them... but I'm a bit disappointed to see the thumbnail picture was color adjusted to make the gecko much more pink than it actually was. :( Hopefully this doesn't become the norm with your videos going forward.

yep!!

In my personal opinion, people who do not allow their animals to have constant access to food/water as the animals please, is neglecting their animal.
Always have water dishes in mine and I see them drink out of them when they want. I don't see why this is controversial at all.
I just refill my leo water dish every day
1:37 “lets talk about your racks”
I'm fairly new to the Dave Kaufman channel. It's clear to me that Dave knows his stuff. What I really appreciate is that he's letting her talk and explain her point of view. I've gotten a few geckos from her, they are all so beautiful and handleable
Gorgeous geckos! I want to see them all. My crested and mourning geckos all soak and drink from bowls but they also like water droplets. I am however a paranoid reptile mom who gives every option possible jut in case…
I love how relaxed these guys are with her! Love the video. Beautiful geckos! Maybe one day I can have one of these amazing babies...
Your gecko in your picture is beautiful too.
Love the fact she acknowledges that these guys are smart!
Great video! I love how Emily modified the bins and enriched them in the way the cresties need-that’s amazing! Those cresties were stunning!

Thank you for mentioning enrichment for cresties.

Also wanted to mention how silky soft they are. They are silky smooth.

I like truffle too as i prefer more natural looking animals to morphs. That goes for alm reptiles with the exception of gtp’s

Agreed Liz. Theres more than one way to skin a cat.
I agree!
I cannot see how a bin is better for an animal. It is only more convenient for the keeper.
It’s in no way, shape or form better for the animal. How would keeping it in a tiny box without a proper day and light cycle be better for it? This is all for convenience for the breeder and definitely not the ideal of keeping them.
@Robert Petrelli light is only one of many reasons bins are inadequate.
Dave is such a talented presenter. TV networks don't know what they're missing. There are so many yt channels that blow TV shows outa the water.
I love the spots! And that dark crestie is gorgeous! 🐸🐍🐢💚🐛🍃🦎
Gorgeous cresties.. 😍.. thanks for showing the collection Emily and Dav 👍
yes! misting dries pretty fast off the glass even if its in the air a water bowl is needed!!!! they drink water in the wild!
Having a crestie, you just know or feel when they are about to jump. I love that about them. I also like how she shared some of her tips and I did not know they will live so such a long period of time. Like ball pythons, hard to keep up with all these new morphs.

I got one of her dark line around 4 years ago. [In fact one of truffles babies] They are so beautiful 😍
I love her down to earth philosophy. Beautiful collection!
Great video. So much knowledge from someone who has spent years caring for them. Great info for beginners or even expert keepers. You never stop learning as a reptile keeper. Amazing room also! You can tell she's put a lot of work and care into her room. Beautiful geckos Emily!
They are so adorable 😍😍
That jaguar crestie is GORGEOUS!! 😍
I wonder how often she gets asked about her "racks" 😂
I also feed a complete diet, insects, and fruits (sometimes I add bee pollen aggregates to the fruit too)
That jaguar line is interesting. Never seen any like that before. As you said i wouldnt have Dav
I purchased a lilly white female from her at the begging of this year, amazing geckos!
Good episode Dav and Emily.
Awww 🥰❣️ I love Truffle!! She's so cute and her color is my favorite. My first Hognose is named Truffle, too.
Absolutely beautiful geckos, I'd love one of her orange colored ones!!!
Great video! I'm curious to what that fridge type unit is for? The one with the blue light. Thanks!
That HoneyBelle is gorgeous!!! Wow!!
Reminds me of the movie the Barrowers. Lmao

If the animal was in a large enclosure, it would be able to better regulate its weight.

My Crested's are orange red and black fired up and fired down green and yellow verry cool how they can differ in color when fired up or down
Great video Dav!
Cresties are so fun!

Tell your boy Adam , Dave ! In his crested geckos suck video he rants about how the suck because they don’t hunt ! Lol just busting balls guys 🤙🏻
Hi everyone! Can someone tell me where to buy juvenile crested geckos I heard not to buy at Petsmart and Petco. I need good recommendation.
Love the geckos.

Totally, the only benefit to keeping them like this is that it’s easier for the breeder, not for the animal.
@Dav Kaufman, Did Emily have any other comments about keep adult crested geckos in such very small enclosures? A lot of comments about missing tails.
Curious....did some of them drop their tails or is it their breed lines.
Really Nice. Greetings gunther from belgum
Dalmation is my favorite morph
Are the axanthics/Translucent cresties viable? I feel like everyone I seen at Reptiles by Mack were deformed
altitude exotics produces healthy axanthics
Translucent cresteds? New bucket list item!
Great stuff

In the uk we have lots like those 😊
I've watched a ton of gecko vids now. Why is it that the lizards are always fired down, as they say? They never seem to be fired up
I have videos of my crested geckos drinking out of a water dish! It's a flat out lie to say they do not drink from a water dish!!
I honestly don’t get why people are having their geckos tails fall off. I have 3 and it’s never happened. But yeah I can imagine one’s that breed losing their tail. Thanks buddy. It's been a bit over a year and mine still has its tail. Fingers crossed lol. Cresties are just brilliant freaking pets.
Anyone recognize what it is that was installed into those tubs to serve as vents (like at 1:15)?
The vents can be purchased at any of he builder stores. They are circular vents and come in different sizes.
@@californiacritic9779 Do you know what they're called, or perhaps what "department" they'd be associated with?

Zoo keeper by day gecko breeder by night. Shes my type of gal👍
I’m kinda gay for her- I LOVE THE CRESTIES
Ya Im happy for her to!🙂
no heat source neefed for these guys ? !?
Hi dav
if the geckos are happy and healthy racks do the job jst as well maybe even better as far as temp and humidity

Why do so many of her cresties have dropped tails?
Way too small of an enclosure, probably stresses the poor things out
Crested geckos are super super likely to drop tails, it’s not like a leopard gecko where it takes some effort. Some will drop it even if their hear a loud noise
Some of those look like axanthics to me
Amazing gecko s sad about ther tails tho

Train them to drink from bowl. If they don’t eat, starve them to the point they have to eat.
