I really love KLM's paint scheme, definitely one of the best in the world just for its cool simplicity and blueness. Hopefully they never change it! KLM-blue should be the national color of the Netherlands
Best paint was AmericanAirlines befor 2011. The aluminium look was great! And if you have asked a captain from AA, what kind of polish he uses for the great shine of his aircraft, he answers: "Speed only Sir!" :-)
Forget the advancement in paint , I am impressed with the drop down platforms . Painting off scaffolding is a pain . Assembly then move them disassembling.
@8justin88 It's a paste chemical that helps to clean off any left over bits of the old paint of. Extra paint means extra weight and extra fuel. Increasing costs. So they apply the yellow coat to cut down on extra paint and extra weight, in turn decreasing operating costs.
Everything is much improved since the 70s. For one all aircraft have TCAS (traffic collision/avoidance system) so he would see the plane on the little radar and know it was there - they turn it on when entering the runway
@nightfox Pipe down! They paint all aircraft types with this electrostatic spraying equipment. KLM is not just a freight company, in fact it is the oldest passengers carrier in the world still operating under its original name.
Less paint is a huge plus . What most people dont realize to paint something of this size and color scheme, takes 100 to 130 gallons of material, 900 to 1400 pounds of materials, which is why they chemically strip before refinishing.
No ,they use it also for passenger transport. But the 747 is in use because of it's space inside, this plane is bigger than any other airplane (exept the A380)
How is it with the clearcoat? Does it now really help to remain at a certain gloss and not to fade as normal laquer would do?
but you lineup with TCAS on, and you cross runway with transponder on, so in the KLM incident you refer to, they would now both be able to see eachother.
@sonnylatchstring is more when it comes to the 744 passenger version, as there is more plane to paint thanks to the longer hump. They already restrict your allowed checked in baggage, and charge you more for going over that limit, you have to think about the entire picture not just the paint. There are reasons behind it, it basically all boils down to money, how much can they save per flight.
@sonnylatchstring I get your point, but think about it from the company's perspective..the save 1 or 2 days in doing it this way, which means lots of $!
Shut up some people down here. KLM is never been crap. KLM is one of the safetys airlines in the world and it is a royal company. I flight always with them. In my flights everything was good. So... Say what you want but KLM is very good.
1. They wear the same suits because of the chemicals in the paint, it is environmentally friendly because the paint thickness is much thinner, therefore the aircraft consumes less fuel 2. Many aircraft's need repainting every couple of years due to erosion of paint etc, and the paint needed to be renewed so the aircraft could use less fuel. 3. They did.
They do that! But the airplane gets painted over and over, and then they remove it all and paint again, because the airplane is heavier with so much paint!
Does anyone know if passengers' baggages are transfered from a KLM-flight to a KLM-cityhopper flight? Or the opposite? In addition, does KLM-cityhopper has the same baggage policy as KLM?
On a 747 livery the paint can weigh anything up to 500 kilograms or up to - 1000/1100 pounds . There is a tolerance involved so you are looking at a ball park figure hope this helps.
@nightfox What is your point? 15% = 15% We are talking about reducing weight of the paint itself, not 15% reduction in total aircraft weight. They better reduce the amount of luggage people can take on board with 1 kilo or let them have a good crap like I suggested if you're concerned about CO2. And for your sake, yes, again I am talking about a passengers plane with 200 to 500 people in it.
They have the suits on to protect their clothes They paint it the same colour scheme because that's KLM's colour scheme The engines are covered actually look at them after the masking process.
Patrick it is made from composite, paint removers may affect the hardener liquid resulting in it falling apart, and sanding may damage the fibers resulting in the cone losing its strength
found that video, becuse was preparing test for applying for a job - it was - how much ping - pong balls boeing 787 could contain. I was surpried by scale of that plane and decided to see, how does it looks like :-)
I have to admit KLM has the most georgeous livery. Such a beauty!
+Shane Pableo Good to hear you like our new livery, Shane!
+KLM just saying the obvious!
I used to watch you videos wen I was 7 and now I'm 11 Thank you for making this video it's awesome :)

I love the Korean Air, KLM blue, it looks incredible with the blue sky
Great looking blue mix on the KLM planes :)
It was always my dream to show my children sculptures , Art work and explain how technology works ..
Best paint was AmericanAirlines befor 2011. The aluminium look was great! And if you have asked a captain from AA, what kind of polish he uses for the great shine of his aircraft, he answers: "Speed only Sir!" :-)
sabo2706 yes. But in one way it looks very old. Best looking Airline for me is Bhutan Airlines and Drukair.
Judge judy
sabo2706 2013, but yeah i miss it too. Had the pleasure to see one of the last old 737's back in july when i visited St Maarten, beautiful
Looking at the AA livery from pre 2011 up close you could definitely see the battle scars on them. Love the new livery with the flag on the tail.
sa
Finally a video on youtube where we see how a KLM aircraft is painted! Nice - Geweldig!!!
Your planes are just amazing!!
This video made me remember my childhood
Forget the advancement in paint , I am impressed with the drop down platforms . Painting off scaffolding is a pain . Assembly then move them disassembling.
You gotta love that bare aluminium look!
Maurice- I agree. I would like to see just a clear coat and send it on it's way!
Those good ol American airlines
Bothers me how it looks like it's boiling xS
NOT ME WATCHING THIS 11 YEARS LATER…
What was wrong with how it looked in the beginning?! :P
Exactly, dumbass
Nobodyinteresting dude, did you watch the video?
Nothing was wrong with the looks. They changed to a lighter weight and more environmentally friendly paint.
The aircraft had rivet rash that's why it was only the fuselage that was painted
Hi dan

Great blue livery but I just find that Cargo font quite bad, I would have gone for like a simple design like virgin Atlantic.
+Jude Thank you for your feedback!
+KLM no problem ;)

The good days, I miss the klm jumbos

KLM is a very nice airline, crew is very nice too.
Love KLM's brilliant blue at 3:29
Amazing repaint video. Specially with this kind of music.
Does anyone have any ideas what music tracks are used in the video?
Long Way Home - Olivier Renoir
Stunning Beauty✈
Amazing!
IDK but it looks awesome at 1:36 when its all silver :)
I always wondered how they do to keep a perfect symmetry between sides when painting the aircraft livery.
Great Reportage!
Sensacional estás novas tecnologias , parabéns KLM !
STEFANO
That's beautiful!!!
Very cool. But I wish this was full screen HD.

So can this plane Alkline clean? I'm always wrong BEACUSE I love the new system on stage 6
Just because something is environmentally friendly, doesn't mean that it may be good for our skin.. though you make a very good point!
but you lineup with TCAS on, and you cross runway with transponder on, so in the KLM incident you refer to, they would now both be able to see eachother.

My favorite plane is the KLM
I like the music as well.. but will u please help me to find the link? Because i can't find the song as given in the description.
long way home olivier renoir
I remembre watching this when I was 4 years old
Same
Just remember KLM when using 747's it's best to wait till you have permission to takeoff!
At least in 1977 I think they learnt their lesson
Love your video 👍✈️
what is the cost for such an operation?
Very interesting to see something like that!
Interesting. I've always known but never noticed the wings are never painted. For obvious reasons, of course.
did they repaint it to make it lighter so then can carry more cargo?
as far as I know the paint can weigh 1-2 tonnes, so 15% could count up to 150-300kg. That for every flight can add up to a lot of extra fuel
ik vondt de oude paint met de "aluminium" onderkant en donkeblauwe bovenkant het mooist
What kind of paint was used? Mankiewicz?
appreciate the environment conscientiousness.... what is the music that you use in the video?
+MrSunlander The music is composed by KLM itself!
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines any way to get a copy of this song? I really enjoy it!
qual o nome deste liquido que passam pra tirar a tinta?
OMG What a SHINE :O
KLM I heard you were stopping operations to St Marteen? Why? :(
Chicago 90278 *cough cough* stopping 747 operations to St. Maarten
@sonnylatchstring are the letters saying 'cargo' not big enough?
Fantastic Presentation....
ok it looks like a nice plane
@sonnylatchstring I get your point, but think about it from the company's perspective..the save 1 or 2 days in doing it this way, which means lots of $!
What is the purpose of clear coat?
@Boeing1995ER meaning you believe they only paint cargo planes this "light" & "environmentally" way?
why Klm Pont Du Gard didn't come with the delft blue
to quito or other countries ?
Shut up some people down here. KLM is never been crap. KLM is one of the safetys airlines in the world and it is a royal company. I flight always with them. In my flights everything was good. So... Say what you want but KLM is very good.
if u guys look at the big gate at the bottom it looks like it took them 3 and half days to make the paint
1. They wear the same suits because of the chemicals in the paint, it is environmentally friendly because the paint thickness is much thinner, therefore the aircraft consumes less fuel
2. Many aircraft's need repainting every couple of years due to erosion of paint etc, and the paint needed to be renewed so the aircraft could use less fuel.
3. They did.
@8justin88 I believe its a primer
Why did you retire the 747?!
How come the nose cone was not stripped of paint
In the end, my airline used water based paint & rollers to re paint due to gov regulations & worksite health rules.
i wonder if you can make a paper model of the plane
What is the music used for this video?
They do that! But the airplane gets painted over and over, and then they remove it all and paint again, because the airplane is heavier with so much paint!
@sonnylatchstring yeah, that be one hell of an announcement to hear over the P.A. system........
Does anyone know if passengers' baggages are transfered from a KLM-flight to a KLM-cityhopper flight? Or the opposite? In addition, does KLM-cityhopper has the same baggage policy as KLM?
klm i love you
Dont let go of the 747 get the 747-8! And please use the 747 for aruba
PilotGuyAruba Just do you know klm keeps the cargo versions i believe
Thank you finally someone agrees
Wow that is sweet
IT looks like Banana 2:50 :D
Thatls jumbo banana
Thats a flying jumbo banana
That's a flying jumbo robot banana :D
I wonder how much that paint weights...

gracias KLM
she's beautiful
Does anyone know the name of the first song being played in this video?
@nightfox What is your point? 15% = 15% We are talking about reducing weight of the paint itself, not 15% reduction in total aircraft weight. They better reduce the amount of luggage people can take on board with 1 kilo or let them have a good crap like I suggested if you're concerned about CO2. And for your sake, yes, again I am talking about a passengers plane with 200 to 500 people in it.
@averredude101 The new paint design has 15% less paint in weight. The aircraft will weigh less as a result and can fly without giving out so much fuel
They have the suits on to protect their clothes
They paint it the same colour scheme because that's KLM's colour scheme
The engines are covered actually look at them after the masking process.
KLM I think is now starting to retire the once “Queen Of The Sky”
@sonnylatchstring lol no, but it's the only one shown in this particular video.
TCAS only works if both transponders are on... You don't taxi with it on.
Does anyone knows the name of the first song being played.
why is the nosecone left out of the painting in the beginning?
Patrick it is made from composite, paint removers may affect the hardener liquid resulting in it falling apart, and sanding may damage the fibers resulting in the cone losing its strength
and Pont Du Gard (PH - BQP) have 2 igual airplanes ??
How do you get a job doing this lol?
how manny dag go in to thise?
what a purty plane
Amazing
+angelina Energy Thanks Angelina :-)
found that video, becuse was preparing test for applying for a job - it was - how much ping - pong balls boeing 787 could contain. I was surpried by scale of that plane and decided to see, how does it looks like :-)
KLM has the first set of windows for windows 11 which are now
@sonnylatchstring imagine it to fly for 15 years with klm. with one flight a day. and now it weights 35kg less. added up it saves a lot of fuel.
@sonnylatchstring That is a freighter not a passenger plane. Use your eyes before opening your mouth next time.
Does Air France on KLM
Zonder Martinair logootje??
What is the name of this music???
This is a cargo plane, not a passenger plane.
