Class 04 Shunter D2246 Exhauster Start Up

- For the first time in a long time, We may have a fully working Exhauster.
The first two goes didn't work due to dirt in oil and different bearing material but this one (Third Time Lucky) should work and last a bit longer.
Thanks to Ian sells for boosting moral with lots of beer. So cheers Ian and heres to our first jolly down the line with our favourite shunter.
It may be 11 years ago but it's nice to see D2246 running again.
I remember her when she shared the shunting duties with D2310 at Colmec coal concentration depot Tolworth.
I've got photos I took of D2246 minus her axles and on sleeper blocks when the depot at Tolworth was being demolished.
The livery is better than the pale green with full yellow front she had at Tolworth.
Be great to see those pics. D2246 is almost ready ready to return back to traffic. Will be rolling around the SDR again in 2023.

Yes. D2246 was painted 'all over green' in 2010.

Woah, this Diesel engine breathes out lots of exhausts like a steam locomotives？
Looks loke the wagon before the 04 had its handbrake on! Watch the wheels as it comes out the shed.

Did they give d2246 a new livery? Ive seen othee videos with the loco with wasp stripes.
D402DDS what loco is that coming out of the shed behind it? The green one, is it polish tank no:2944 or something?
Do you remember what was wrong with the engine?
CreRay a few things if I remember. We sorted the timing out and sent the fuel pump away for overhaul. Think we also had traces of water in the fuel. We spend weeks lapping valves and heads but that didn't fix it.
Did you ever find out about the smoke issue, we have the same on our 03
The timing was out on the fuel pump.
We re lapped the valves in the heads, sent the pump away for a service and it still smoked. Once the timing was sorted it ran great. I have posted another video of it recently running.

The phasing betwern the injector pump and ram tappet in the cambox of each cylinder is critical on any Gardner.
