There’s something to be said about building up something yourself that takes you places. Keeps you cool when it’s hot, dry when it’s wet and warm when it’s cold.
GREAT JOB!
I’m now a subscriber. I’ve built up a cargo truck conversion so I know first hand the effort you’ve put into your build.
Awesome!! Thank you for your kind words. You hit the nail on the head. This has and continues to be a fulfilling journey for our entire family. Thank you so much for subscribing and congratulations on your cargo truck conversion!
I like the common sense simplicity and that you did not get bogged down in designing the interior. It is very functional and I'm sure ya'll will enjoy many family weekends it.
Thank you so much! We have enjoyed it for several years now and we’re still upgrading as we go.
You need a bonded ground / neutral for that surge protector to work when using the generator. You can make / buy a bonding plug to plug into your generator that will solve your problem.
Awesome! Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
Happy wife peaceful life. Paint them white . 😁 I love your build, and I hope to do something similar one day. 👍
True story!!😄 Thank you so much! Go for it. It has been so much fun for our family. Thanks for watching!
What a great sense of humble humor! This video is refreshing to watch. I Like the size and layout. Children's sleep area smart design. Bathroom shower size is great, the area with murphy bed spacious. Red or white moulding hard call? Maybe Red? Then you could add red accessories like, throw pillows, throw rugs etc.. Thank You for sharing your home! Appreciated take on video. Calm and Natural!
Thank you so much for your kind comment!!
Insulate like crazy then put a full layer of covering on the bottom front to back and ur floors will be warm...warm...WARM !!!
Thanks for the comment!
Very nice build.
I agree with his wife. Reds ok but white will look much better.
Thanks for the comment and watching the channel!
This conversion is one of the best I’ve seen. As far as the red goes, you’ll enjoy your camping trips more if just paint them white and then y’all won’t have to talk about anymore. But I seriously love what y’all have created for your family.
Thank you so much for your kind words. You speak with true wisdom. So much so that I feel you are speaking from real world experience. Lol🤣 Really though. I do appreciate your comment and thank you for watching!
That’s a awesome build ! Very spacious & outstanding!
Thank you!!
I’m amazed that you built it functional, practical and best of all custom built great work. 🙏🏽safe travels
Thank you!!
Thank you for the full tour! What a great family friendly build. If you're asking opinions on the red - maybe your wife could embrace the red by getting red curtains and other red accessories for the kitchen/living area. That is, of course, if she likes red - Lol. I'm sure you'll have fun tinkering with this for years to come!
Thank you for asking for the tour! It was a great idea!! My wife is contemplating changing the colors of the cabinets and possibly other things.. or I’ll paint the trim. Lol. Thanks again!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure Your full tour video and camper turned out great and I’m glad you went for it! I’m sure your red “trim” dilemma will work itself out…probably by you painting it white…Lol
Way cool conversion, I can tell you have taken great pride in your work.
Thanks! We absolutely have. This build means a lot to our whole family.
Hi How much did the trailer cost pre-conversion?
You did a great job. Y’all are gonna make many family memories. Have fun and take plenty of pictures
Thank you so much! We love spending time in it! Thanks for watching!
Leave the trim red. Painting them white would actually take away from the look and that much white would bother you after awhile. 8f those are wire chases, everytime you had to get into them, if they were white, would show and you would have to paint them again because white shows dirt or finger smudges.
A simple curtain could hide the ramp door. You might consider a lift bed system in place of the Murphy bed That way you could have it at a more comfortable height and you could store it at the ceiling. I think putting something on the wheel well is a great idea. Since you want a fireplace, put an electric fireplace on top of the wheel well and build a mantel around it. I thought where you put the condenser unit was a brilliant idea. Good job.
Thanks for the comment!! Those are all great ideas and I think we’ve finally decided to leave the trim red. It just adds character to the inside!
A well-thought out and professional looking build. What more can anyone want?
Thanks for the kind words and thank you for watching!!
I like the out lay of this trailer. Nice. Gave me some ideas
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Love the trailer. Simple but very nice
Thanks!
Awesome build
Thanks!
Looks good and solid, home away from home!
Thanks!!
the room for the 3 kids is really well though, one of the best that I saw. all conversion is really good
Thank you!
Looks great. I'm on my 2nd conversation...finally a 6.3ft x14 upgraded from a 5x10. Will serve double duty as Swapmeet hauler and living.
Awesome! Good luck with your new build!! Thanks for watching!
Very nice. I like it. We want to do a build with a bus and a trailer for going racing with our cars. I like what you did. And thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! That sounds like an awesome project! Good luck with it.
Nice build for your holidays.
Thanks!
Beautiful travel trailer ❤️
Thank you!!
Nice job.
Thanks!!
Get your self a Liftco bed. You get aluminum frame along with gas struts. We bought a queen size memory foam matters . Folds up against the wall. You won’t be sorry. Enjoyed your video👍👍👍👍
I’ll have to check those out. Thanks for watching!
Nice setup.
Thanks!
There so Lucky, I never had a chain saw when i was a kid 👶🏻
Lol. They for sure have some pretty cool toys.
Hi there
I have to agree with your wife..the boards should be painted white..sure it will give a more homey look.
Thanx for sharing...🚛
Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel!
Wow you have a mansion on wheels...Love it!! ✨
Thanks, it takes a lot of room for our family of five! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
👍👍 Yes it does...Happy Adventuring...Blessings ✨
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure Well planned & made rig! Each family has different needs & priorities. When our family was growing up, we told our kids they could bring whatever they wanted provided it fit into their backpacks (with their clothes etc.) & they would be responsible for carrying their backpacks all weekend. We explored all over Europe via train with that rule. Apparently, our daughters thought it was a good idea because they used it two weekends ago with their own kids/teens when they went skiing.
@@canoefor-one1102 thank you! The backpack idea is great. I bet that was an awesome trip as well. I hope our children can share a love of travel with their kids.
Love your place! Thank you for sharing. I vote no on the red, but brown would look good 👍
Good bless you and your family!
Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching!
Nice build! More 'on-grid' than I am doing my 20' toy hauler, but it looks like it fits your needs well. I would totally leave the corner panels RED. All that white (walls/ceiling) needs an accent color to break it up. I'd paint the stools red and a couple other things for an accent color. But my fav color is red, so I'm already bias!! LOL
My next step will be upgrading components for off grid. We mostly camp in campgrounds, so it’s not really needed, but I would really like to have the freedom if we wanted to boondock more in the future. I agree that the red accent helps break things up! Thanks for watching!
This what I would do leave the red panels red, put some panelling over the back door and make it so you can open it as an exit.
Great idea! Thanks for watching!
Love the red!
Me too!! Thanks for watching!
Really nice,I would use a nice shower curtain for the back door, but nice as is
That’s a great idea! Thanks for watching!
Very Nice, Thanks for the Video. Goose Neck that's Way cool! 5* Video.
Thank you!!
I can say Advantec board is awesome. I had a piece in the back of my pickup to keep black walnuts from going under the tool box. It turned gray but did not fall apart.
That’s awesome! I was worried about our floor for a while, but it hasn’t changed since the day we bought the trailer. Still solid! Thanks for watching!
If I was going to use it for a trailer floor like that one I would use oil base paint on it.
Nice build . I'm looking to do this with either a trailer or in a school bus
Thanks! Good luck with your build!
Nice setup. Thought about doing something like this, not sure yet.
Thanks! Go for it! It can get expensive, but we built a little at a time until we ended up with what we have now. We only had AC and insulation for our first few trips.
Looks great so far keep going. Leave it red and match the curtains. About the generator not working. I had the same problem. Found the I had to ground the generator. You can make your own grounding plug. Just you tube it. Hope that works.
Awesome info! I’ll look in to grounding the generator. Thanks for watching!
Also, some generators have a bonded neutral and some don't. My generator would not work with my home transfer switch until I bonded the neutral. Your protection device may require it one way and your generator may be set up another.
I suspected you'd need to make a change on the fresh water tanks. If and when you use them for a boondocking expedition, you'll notice a big change. For what we do, i have the vents open all the time because I don't haul water in the rig. I'll set up boondocking in Quartzsite then get water in my spare tanks so I never have to move. I can sit for months on end, theoretically of course. Great build, it looks great, and you seem to have enjoyed to process much more than I did. Good luck and happy travels.
You were right! I thought the vents were causing issues while I was filling my tanks but I believe it’s caused by the fill line going directly into the first tank. I’ve still got a few changes to make but overall they get the job done. I’ve had a blast with our build and I’m ready to start another. Thanks for watching and happy travels to you as well.
Nice work 🤔
Thanks!
Just install a simple dimmer switch for your outdoor lighting. 👍 nice trailer!
Thanks for the comment. I’ll look in to a dimmer switch. Thanks for watching!
Funny I see all these young people trying to do the UA-cam thing and good for them but they seem nervous and akward. This dude seemed super comfortable, super natural, and made a good tour video. The kids could learn from this guy. Just be yourself. UA-cam doesn't need another manufacturer blueprint personality. Be yourself. Yourself is about as unique as it gets. The term snowflake gets used as a derogatory term these days but like humans every flake is unique. Not a bad thing to be. Good build bud. Have fun out there.
Thanks for the kind comments. It’s a strange thing talking to a camera but, like anything, you get used to it. Wait a minute…are you calling me old….I guess I’m ok with that. Thanks for watching.
I totally agree 👍💯 with your comment. Ditto
Can’t be that nervous you talk way to much
25:37 JESUS... that needs to be upgraded asap!
FOR SURE! We have major plans for it!
My family loves the red! Good quality build.
So cool to hear that your family watched!!! Thanks for the comment!
I recommend that you tie the great tank in with the black tank so you flush the black tank first and then the soapy water from the gray tank will flush the black tank out once you watch the Black tank first
Thanks for the comment! The grey and black tanks are tied in at the dump valve. We use that exact method to dump and clean our hoses. Thanks for watching!
Leave the top strips red !!!! It brightens it up !!!
Will do! Thanks for watching!
How did you get the bed to pivot? I’ve watched all videos and could find that part. I’m building a bed for my trailer too. Thanks and great videos.
I used three heavy duty hinges made for a fence gate. I found them at Lowes. Thanks for watching!
Leave them red and have red accents around makes it warm and cheerful ,
Yes!! The red is so awesome!! Thanks for watching!
Success 🎉
Yes!!
I love it ❤️🤍💙💯 I love the kids room. I love the Red. You did such a a great job. I wish my husband could do one. What did you decide to do the trim color. White or red I love the Red.
Thank you so much! It was a ton of work, but worth every bit of it. The trim is still red! Thanks for watching.
That OSB board under your trailer floor is used for roof decking, and contains a lot of adhesives which make it very moisture resistant.
It's awesome stuff! I've been very happy with how well it holds up.
Power watchdog makes a plug for your generator that fixes the issue. Generators usually have a floating neutral so they can hook up to a home. This plug simply creates a connection between your neutral and your ground making it a bonded neutral. The dog won’t turn red anymore
Hey thanks for the info!! I found out about the ground/neutral plug and have had great luck with it so far. The dog is now happy. Lol. Thanks for watching!!
I would say leave them red but your wife is in charge, right? 😊, As it should be. Boy! Have you done a lot of work on this trailer! I commend you! Looks awesome!
Thanks!! So far so good with the red trim. I think the red is growing on her. Thank you for watching!!
Beautiful Blessing Darling. ⚘🎚❤
Thank you!
Awesome build & thank you for sharing, I will definitely be using some of your ideas.
For a mini split hose cover it might look cool if you could find a tree branch with the correct curve & hollow it out to use as a cover?
I like the red upper covers as long as you add a little more of the same red into the rest of the area to balance the look.
The tree branch is an awesome idea. I’ll be on the lookout for the perfect one!! I’ll have to see what else I can paint red while my wife isn’t looking. 😁 I’m thinking a red motorcycle would be a great accent. Good luck on your build and thanks for watching!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure thank you, I have a really nice red Honda CT70 with a title sitting in my son's living room as a conversation piece.
@@perrymahnke886 now that’s a cool conversation piece!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure it could be your's, I'm in WI but I do travel & it's small
Yeah, that sounds a little small for me but still very cool.
Nice
Thanks!
I would get rid of the basket on the end of the kitchen counters and make a flip up counter there.
So you give up counter space for undercounter space. Oh that makes alot of sense.
And I would much rather have an RV stove than having a huge oven taking up counter space.
Thanks for the comment. We built what works best for our style of camping. I understand it may not work for everyone, but we sure like it.
Yes need a long panel with open atchers to keep your shawer pipe safe and the other gadgets water pipes coated yet needs coating
Yes I agree. Thanks for watching!
To preserve the underside wood floor just paint it with used auto oil like paint. It will waterproof the wood enough to make it water resistant but still be able to wick excess moisture away.
Thanks for the comment. Whatever Advantech Flooring is made of is pretty good stuff. It has been waterproof and solid since we’ve had it.
You need a grounding plug for the generator. I found this out when I bought my generator/inverter.
Thanks for the info. I’ll check in to that.
I vote with the wife. Lol. white.. especially w color of cabinets..
I’ll let her know you’re on her side! The cabinets are green, so it would be like Christmas!! Thanks for the comment and watching our video!
Unless you already have done it. I'd suggest using maybe magnets on your doors under the front overhang. Struts would be in the way being as low as it is. Over all it's a decent conversion.
Thanks for the comment! Since this video we’ve reconfigured the door to open from the top and hang down. We also made it larger, so that helped all around.
I would fix the back ramp for a patio like the have on the toy hauler.
I really like that idea. If I did that I would like to find a screen to fit the back opening to keep bugs out. Thanks for watching!
A garage door sized screen should work. I put one up a couple years ago for my grandma. You can tack them or put up velcro to secure it so you can take it down easier.
Love the build. What does this thing weigh?
Thank you! Around 10,300 pounds after the build.
No, just needs something to help repel water. One time going down the road in any kind of rain and its over with for that OSB. I bought a brand new mobile home 2 years ago. First year in the pex pipe sprung a leak and sprayed the subfloor and had to replace it.
Thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear about the leak and subfloor rot. OSB can be a real pain to deal with. We’ve been lucky so far with our floors.
Use a piece of window tint to darken the outside bright light!? Might work
Not a bad idea. I may give it a shot.
Leave them red, great contrast, you could get heavy magnets and store or hang things
That’s a great idea! Thanks for the comment!
Love this build! I might have missed it, but what kind of flooring did you use? Is it LVP, or the stick-on vinyl?
Thanks!! We used linoleum roll flooring.
I built a 6’x12’ ten years ago and still use it, but I am considering ordering a 8’ interior height gooseneck trailer to build something similar to what you have. What is the ceiling height in the upstairs bedroom? I put a Pioneer mini-split on a workshop I built a few years ago and it has been outstanding. I plan on using the same model mini-split you have on my next conversion. Great job! Enjoy!
That’s awesome that you’re still using your trailer after 10 years! I just measured the interior height upstairs and it’s 46” from the floor to the ceiling. The pioneer mini split is amazing! I can’t believe how efficient and quiet it is. Thanks for the comment and watching the channel! Good luck on your next build!!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure Thanks for the measurements! I was originally planning on the same length trailer that you have, but I am starting to think going 4 feet shorter will be large enough for a few dirt bikes, or a golf cart, and would make maneuvering easier when boondocking.
@@mikeh423 no problem! Just let me know if you need more measurements. I for sure get why you would want a shorter trailer. I love ours but being more maneuverable is always better.
How much does it weigh now? I've got pretty much the same trailer i built last year. Its a 1998 ATC 32' Gooseneck 7>x8.5^ same dual axle. I used all reclaimed sawmill lumber & Pallets. Live edge floating tv mantel. Live edge custom tables and shelves. Live edge counter top in bathroom everything on the inside is base on Mid evil 1900s. I've got the counter top hung with old zusty log chain with a Live running stream. Saloon doors for bathroom and bedroom. I really like it but its heavy. I've got a 05 2500HD 6.0 gas short bed i had to do the offset hitch also
We are around 10,200 after the build. Tongue weight was just under 3000 pounds. I have a video giving the exact weight of you’re interested.
Your build sounds awesome! We had to upgrade trucks because of the weight of our build.
Hands down the best feature was the chainsaw for the kids😅
We raise em right around here. lol
Paint them White
Add flip DOWN table under TV
Add flip down legs onto the Bed 🛏
Thanks for the comment!
Just use a curtain to cover and then put a varander door there also goes up and dawn .also could put bikes on side at v back??
Great idea! Thanks for the comment!
good ideathank you i like you
Thanks for watching!
Leave them red
Looks great! Where did you get rhose red corner panels/caps? What do you call them? Are they metal? Thx
They were in the trailer from the factory. They are strips of aluminum paneling with 45 degree bends on each side. They are used to cover the wiring. Thanks for watching!!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure that explains why I can’t find anything like that anywhere! Thank you
You could probably have them fabricated but who knows what that would cost!
Excellent build.
What about obtaining insurance for something custom self built?
Thanks! The insurance is the same as a cargo trailer with extra items added.
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure any particular company you would recommend?
Thanks again for video, thus encouraging me to build one.
We use Progressive. No problem! You’ll have a blast building it and you’ll be proud of your hard work when you’re able to stay in it.
I’m doing a bus conversion; 7.5’x29’. How much solar do y’all use when you boondock - or do you know? Do you have a gas generator? I have 1 kiddo who I homeschool, and they want tv/vcr/dvd and a small portable evaporative cooler. I’m trying to decide if I can fit a 45-60 watt fridge with it. Any suggestions?
I love the open shelving with baskets! My kid and I are designing that for ours, especially the kitchen. Do y’all keep your canned goods in them? How well does that work?
Thanks for the tour! Very helpful and insightful for ideas! :)
Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you have an awesome project ahead of you! We don't have solar on our trailer yet. I hope to add that down the road, we just haven't gotten there yet. We do run a gas generator when we boondock. We run a Champion 4650 Inverter generator. It's probably overkill for our trailer, but it will run everything and then some. Depending on the wattage your cooler pulls, you could possibly get away with a smaller inverter generator, like a 2000 watt. You will need to look at the tags on any electric items that you would like to run and see what wattage it's rated for. Then add all of those numbers up to get your total wattage. This will give you an idea of what size generator to purchase. Solar is a different animal and I'm not versed enough in it to help you there. Check out Will Prowse on UA-cam and he will teach you all you need to know.
We do keep canned goods in our kitchen baskets, and it works well.
Thank you for watching and the kind words! Good luck on your build! Enjoy every minute of it!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure Thanks for your reply and the recommendation! I’ll check him out.
Hope u left the panels red, i like it
Oh yeah! Still red!
Im wanting to build my own toy hauler. whats your bathroom dimensions? I've got mine drawn up at 3'x 5' now
Our bathroom is 5.5’x6’. We have a 20”x40” closet/generator box that we had to work around, so it does take away from the space. Just for reference, we used a 34” shower pan.
Leave them red and do red curtains, off sets everything nicely . Thankyou for your time of your tour.
Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching!
Leave em Red
Thanks!!
I have the same exterior lights on my 8x16. I put red taillight repair tape on mine. Seems to dim them just about right and really cheap hack. I use my rear ramp as a patio weather permitting. ROSKO
That’s a great idea. I’ll have to try that out. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.
Happy wife happy life
Absolutely!
Love the build. I'm sorry to say i missed it if you said. How much did it all cost?
Thanks! To be honest, we didn't keep up with it close enough to know a total. We started over two years ago and we're still adding to it. I have a round a bout number, but I'm not big on sharing our financial info. It was less than purchasing a low end travel trailer and it's been so much more reliable. Thanks for watching!
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure that's all I needed to know! It's less than buying. I'm happy.
Paint the red soft grey or medium grey maybe or light or medium shade of brown.🙂
Thanks for the comment!
Leave em red
😀 I’m still holding strong!! Still red!
muestra hasta el aire de las llantas
You should vent your tanks high up the wall and remove the vents. If you have change of elevation with closed tanks, you will eventually blow one or all out.
I've never really thought about building tank pressure when traveling to higher elevations, but that makes sense. I guess I'll just be conscious of that when traveling and leave the vents open for certain trips. Thanks for the comment and watching our channel!
The fuller they are, the less internal space is available. Pay attention to drink bottles in your tow vehicle, if it’s building or loosing pressure it will let you know. And it doesn’t take a lot of elevation.
What is the brand and model of the awning?
The awning is a Carefree of Colorado Altitude. Thanks for watching!
Leave them red !!!! Make a things to go with the red !
Thanks for the comment! They are still red!
I would leave them Red. And y'all have an Awesome place...
Thanks!
Where did you find the Thompson fridge?
We purchased it at Sam’s. It was a back to school deal they were running at the time.
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure thanks, you had great ideas that we were picking up on for our new cargo trailer journey.
That’s great!!! I’m happy we could help! Good luck on your build and let us know if you have any other questions about ours.

Thanks for letting me know! I went through and tried to correct any that were wrong. Try it again and let me know if you find others that are incorrect.
So who won on the red trim?
Just curious...
Still red!
Upper part RED!!! Lower part White??
Thanks!!
They have solar tank heaters...😁
Perfect! I’ll look into it. Thanks!
Red looks good!
Thanks! So far so good. No painting has been mentioned!
