Basically CT-PT could be used for too many factors such as fault detection, finding load current, load power and few others. It's not necessary to know the supply V o I . But you gotta know the ratio of the CT or PT that you'll be using!
Current transformer is nothing but a Secondary Coil respect to a Primary Conductor. Just make a circulation of coil using copper wire, measure the inductance, rotation numbers and make a Measuring Table. There you go, measure anything you like to measure.
