Once again, this review shows why I love MrMobile reviews so much! Every review is full of brilliant narration and genuine love, and it provides a sense of authenticity that you don't get from other reviewers.
This is the first phone that reminds me of the fun and distinctly different phone designs of the 2000s and I love it. Hope we see more of that in the future.
Hmm. Mr 2Phones, you are directly responsible for me having, and still using, the P20 Pro, as well as the Lumia 1020 and Note 4 (which I don't now use 😊). I've never been able to see the attraction of foldables and this great review hasn't changed that. Great review was usual 👍
I have a friend that still uses the note 4 with an extended battery although the battery started giving problems so he needs to change it, which isn't hard.
I was more partial to the Nokia Lumia 1520 I put a 10 20 but I loved its overall design and I agree with you I'm just not that interested in foldables.
Genuinely what I first thought when I saw that circular external display was: Are they somehow running Wear OS AS WELL???? Because essentially having a smartwatch on the outside would be perfect for it!
Running WearOS would likely require a second set of hardware that would already barely fit in a space constrained phone such as this. That's not to say they aren't benefiting from it, since both are Linux, but this would have to just be telling Android its a second screen.
@Carl Gunderson you mean eat way more battery for a feature thats not really that needed and could "deter" people from buying a smart watch? Sounds like a bad move
That hasn't any sence at all. Wear OS is owned by Google such as Android and the GMS applications. Huawei is so bad >because< they are banned from Google. And oh, yes the latest WearOS 3.1 is also co. developed by Samsung, so buy a Galaxy Watch4 at a good price when you will get the best smartwatch available.
@Carl Gunderson yeah, honor can use GMS, nad thats not good. They say that Honor abd Huawei are two different conpanies. But they really aren't. This isn't even possible. HarmonyOS is a heavily remodified version of the open source android version. That version of Android and WearOS have not much in common.
I had my moto razr 5G for almost 2 years now. I haven't started looking too deep into other upgrades, but I'm pretty sure I'm going back to candy bar phones. I've greatly enjoyed the clamshell form factor, and the usability of the large external display; however the already low capacity battery hasn't aged well. Also the internal display screen material has begun flaking off?? I'm hoping Samsung teases a foldable closer to the moto 5G but with better battery, more case options, and a screen protector that doesn't void the warranty.
Oof, that display flaking sounds rough. Hasn't happened to mine - would you be open to sharing a photo or two? If that would work, email is in the About tab.
One of the only reviewers that reviews phones in a realistic manner. Non of those systematic, abusive style of reviews that most people, even those who play games on their phone would even want to push it through. Just answering the question "Is this a phone that I would want to buy?"
I just want to say that you videos are full of charisma, they have some character that I very much like. They somehow make me feel nostalgic 🤷 big thumbs up!
Oh man. This reminds me of the Samsung A300 (I think) back in the very early 00s when a screen on the outside of the flip was the new thing not just on the inside. There was sooooo much design innovation back then that Huawei is making me excited for some propper mobile phone differentiation and choice..... Maybe phones will be fun again!!!
You really nailed it mentioning Huawei's OS shutting down background services... I had a P9 for 4 years and that was terrible. I even made my own "services monitor" just to monitor which background services EMUI closed at random. And after just a couple of years my battery didn't last half a day despite of that. The OS was slick and refined, but that always was a dealbreaker.
Great review as always. This phone’s style reminds me of those old Nokia 7000 fashion series, gorgeous devices with questionable practicality. And this one without google is quite the same, which is a shame because it’s gorgeous has nice specs and takes very decent photos.
It’s exciting to see another flip smartphone! I hope this gets more interest in the smart flip category and brings more diversity to smart phones. #bring back fun flip phones.
Interesting - I didn't know Evernote needed Google services. Great review. I understand the Surface Duo use cases better than these foldable but yes, interesting hardware.
Some apps use GMS not because they need them to function, but because Google offers "Cloud messaging" or in other words they use Google to send notifications, then we have other Apps like Cod Mobile, Pokémon United and WildRift which need GMS for their stores but at the end of the day you can still use them, I play Cod Mobile and Pokémon United on my Y8P/Enjoy 10S/PSmartS and the only thing I can't access is the store... They'll be handicapped but they'll work.
I got kind of enamored with foldables and when Tmobile put the Razr 5g on sale for $499, I got one. Between it feeling so fragile I was constantly worried about breaking it, and the fact that other than being foldable it's not really that great of a phone, within like a month I had switched back to using my Pixel.
Yes, that fragile feeling is nerve-wracking. I've played around with the Huawei Mate X and the motorola flip (the one from 2019) and that spongy feeling brings back those horrible resistive touch smartphones that would get scratched very quickly. The price for me is a no-brainer, considering the durability and the way you may have to pamper it.
@@HeX341 Who cares about that as long as the foldable screen is on the inside of the phone though. When the phone is closed and in your pocket the fragile inner screen is completely protected. I honestly don't understand why people are so worried about a screen that's only exposed when you're using the phone. I have a fold 3 and scratches on the inner screen a total non-issue because of the design of the phone.
@@HeX341UTG glass displays feel NOTHING like what you are describing with those early plastic screen phones. They feel like any other glass display under the finger. That's literally the main reason UTG was invented in the first place.
I love the design, look and fold. The almost double the cost (the zflip3 is often on good sale) sadly pushes this well out of contention, even if it had good avalibility. I love the look and feel of the razr 5G but it is aging now, glad someone is pushing Samsung in the clamshell space. It is a strong first release.
it's possible to use Google services organically without using gspace or anything, but you've just gotta try hard enough to learn/pay someone to do the xda for you.
As much as I hate center crease on my fold 3, I love what it does to set the screen on whatever angle I want. It is so convenient to watch youtube or adjust angle to take a timelapse video. I literally don't need a ketchup bottle to make the screen stand to watch videos or hold the phone for 30 minutes to record my daughter playing a musical instrument for the concert. Great video as always. Lovely phone and such a shame the way things have gone with Huawei. I loved the Mate 20 Pro and the P30 pro, and tried hard to get on with the P40 pro, but the lack of Google services were just too much in the end. @NithPro you can't- you need to flash something like open apps, which is much more complicated or impossible, especially since Huawei have locked bootloaders.
