✨Free Pattern - Sea Breeze Tank Top - forthefrills.com/sea-breeze-tank-top-free-crochet-pattern/ Check out the free crochet top pattern! It has all the sizing info (sizes XS - 3XL), measurements, yarn amounts and alteration instructions ☺
Great tutorial! Super easy to follow as a beginner. I just finished an XL/XXL size top and wanted to include some tips/info after I finished. I used 4 weight Caron cinnamon swirl cake yarn. Ended up using 1 and 1/3 skeins for top. I used a 5mm hook and it definitely made the top a little bigger than I would’ve liked. Definitely measure the triangles to your chest and make sure they are going to create the correct size arm hole, I ended up with arm openings slightly too large. I also should’ve listened to the pattern notes and shortened the depth of the V to make it a more everyday wearable piece. To make add some more “fabric” to the arm holes, I did a double crochet border in place of the single crochet border around the arm openings and neckline and it turned out very cute. When using a color change/self striping yarn, I felt like the bottom border was sort of lost so I would probably change that up to something more simple next time. This was my very first time making any sort of top but I just wanted to give some more information for other newbies!
Did you edit the V any way so that it would be smaller? I also made the plunder of not looking at the pattern notes for the V and now it’s too deep for my liking. Wondering if there’s any way to fix it so it’s more modest
I just finished this! It’s the first piece of clothing I’ve ever crocheted and it was great! I misjudged the sizing a little bit but now I’ll be using it more as a pullunder. Thank you so much! The info on the website was also very helpful :)
I’m going to try making this im so excited. Thank you for relying to everyone else ❤️ your insight helped a lot Edit: finished the top! Super cute but it’s much more fitted (I’m usually an XS in clothing) and not as “breezy” as the photo and sits at your belly button, for some reason it’s shorter in person than it is when she wears it in the photo. I’d suggest adding a couple rows at the bottom if you want it to sit right above the hip bone and not at your belly button. Also it’s super low cut!
Hi Sonya, If you check out the free written pattern (link in the description) It will give you all the measurements, gauge info (to make sure your stitch tension is correct so your top fits) and alteration instructions to make sure this pattern perfectly fits you as we all have different body types :) The written pattern contains instructions on how to get the v to sit where you want it to, how to check if the top is the right width for your bust and how to add extra length to your top. I hope this helps, Grace :)
Wow this is a nice tank top! I had one a long time ago and now I can make a new one for myself! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THIS TUTORIAL AND PATTERN AND FOR ADDING THE DIFFERENT SIZES FOR US SHAPELY GALS!!
Thank you so much for this pattern. Im so glad I found you. I just finished this top today I'm so happy. I will make this again in different color because I really like the design of this top. Thank you thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Hi from Brazil! I loved this top, so much that I did it too. I found it super easy and very beautiful! 😍 My only mistake was cutting the thread at the end of the job, instead of hiding it. But other than that, it worked very well.
Fabulous!!! A little crochet top with thick straps to hide my bra straps and a VERY flattering V neck! Great tutorial. Thank you so much xxx PS: I WISH you had been around when I first learn to crochet - your descriptions are so amazing for a beginner. xxx
I'm so glad you found the tutorial useful :) Yes I love tank tops that hide straps too - I find it a bit impractical otherwise! Thank you so much for your kind words!
Just had to add this. I had printed off your written instructions and used them today (no interweb access!). Oh my word, they are BRILLIANT!!! Love the little hints for the shorter straps too!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it is fantastic ! I have maybe a stupid question but I bought a yarn for needle US6 and I definitly do not get the right size for the 10cm square. It is fine I am just doing it in size bigger but I was wondering is there anything I should check next time I will be buying yard ? Thanks !!
I like the video, I am a small size and it wasn’t as loose as the video , so I suggest doing an M if you are a small and want it breezy. And add more 3-5 extra rows in the end so it’s long enough and not at your bellybutton. Thanks for the video it’s great!
thank you for the tutorial and the explanations. ı have checked your website also, that was so great. these were sooo useful and understandable. thank youuu ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I love this pattern. But I am using a yarn with a much smaller gauge... Hope it will work out fine if I just size it up... Is there any tips on how to adjust the pattern?
Hello ma'am. I'm I correct in thinking that if I want a little longer top, I just need to add more rows after row 13? Thank you for this simple but beautiful design 💗
For people who were dumb (specifically me) and didn’t read the pattern notes about the V, how would you make it smaller if you’ve already worked all the way to some of the body portion?
Hi. I started this top with the instructions for my size, but it’s turning out to look like two sizes bigger. Any idea why? Has this happened to anyone else attempting this top?
How do you determine how much yarn you will need. Since I have to order mine I need to make sure I get enough. I live in very small town accessibility not always convenient.
Hello. Amazing crochet. I started to follow a video for a top starting from a line of 69 chains but now I can't find it anymore. I was sure it was this one.. Someone can help me ? Thanks.
Hi. Thanks for the tutorial and the pattern. I downloaded it and am not sure how much yarn is needed. You talk of 200 m but is that each skein you need or is that the total for the project. Thanks.
Hi, I'm following your pattern, but I've done for front V too long and shows a lot, now I think I'll use it for the back, and I'm trying to do the front now, V shorter but it's coming out slimmer than the back triangles, Is that right? Any help will be helpful. Thanks Faye :)
Hi, I've almost completed the top! Do you put "right" sides of the top together before stitching up sides and straps. I figured there is kinda a right side based on the way the ribbing looks. Then would I turn right side out and THEN single crochet to finish edges? Thanks a bunch! GREAT video, you are consistent with instructions each row and totally NOT monotone ;) VERY easy to follow. My first wearable project besides slippers and hats!!!
Hi Tara, Yes you can place the right sides together and then sew the two pieces together, turn it right side out and then single crochet to finish the edges :) If you're a right handed crocheter the official 'right side' is normally when the tail of the foundation chain is coming out of the left corner (the closest row to you should be row 1). However, I think whichever side you prefer should be the right side, it's your top after all :) I'm so glad you found this tutorial helpful! Happy crocheting, Grace :)
@@forthefrills Thanks for the reply!! Awesome, I had em stacked up right, based on way ribbing looks though! For others making this, she's referring to foundation tails being on the left when you finish crocheting, while top is still upside down ; ) Otherwise right side, tails are on the right side when looking at top normally! I seriously was overthinking this and confusing myself for no reason!! Happy crocheting from Montana!
Thank you! Full details - yarn, weight etc. for sizes XS - 3XL can be found on the blog post! forthefrills.com/sea-breeze-tank-top-free-crochet-pattern
when finishing the second row of the ribbing, does it end in fDPC fDPC bDPC DC, or fDPC bDCP bDCP DC? when I start the third row my pattern doesn't seem to fit with what I see on the video and I'm confused
I have a doubt... I don't know the exact term.. what I want to ask is.. does yarn thread width matter the overall patter of the top?.. because I am working on the pattern in this video however it did not turn out the same.. n I am size xs-s
Thank you! It's called Debbie Bliss Cotton Denim DK. The store I get it from is linked in the blog post - forthefrills.com/sea-breeze-tank-top-free-crochet-pattern
Hi Nichole, sure - this DK yarn is very thick and closer to a worsted yarn. As always I'd recommend swatching your yarn to see if you meet gauge to make sure that the top will fit properly. Grace :)
I reaaaally struggled with the ribbing on the bottom. I was planning on making one of these for my friend as well, do you think there's an alternate stitch I could use instead of the FpDC / BpDC?? Really love this pattern though!! Thank you!!
Hi Alyssa, I'd recommend checking out an in depth tutorial on FpDC / BpDC - there are heaps on YT! If not you can always just end with 1 row of Single crochets, this will give you a nice straight edge (but there won't be any ribbing!) Grace
Hi, you need to use the same thickness of yarn for this pattern to fit according the suggested measurements, if not you'll have to alter the pattern to fit you and I can't guarantee it'll work! All extra info is in the blog post (linked in the description) :) Grace
Thanks! In total I used 400m of a DK cotton yarn for size small. Full details (sizes XS-3XL) are in the blog post which is linked in the description bar!
This yarn is little pricey for me as a beginner in case I get discouraged, is there a yarn you can recommend so I can follow the video and come out same size ? Thanks
Hi, Lion Brand Cooboo would be a good fit for the design or any DK cotton yarn that's on the thicker side (and closer to an aran/worsted weight). I hope this helps, Grace :)
Hi Philippa, you might be able to get away with using a 5mm hook, just make sure to check your gauge and if its a bit loose you can tighten your stitches. I hope this helps, Grace :)

How many skeins did you use?
This will be my next crochet project.

Roughly how much yarn does this pattern take? I have a spool of red heart worsted weight yarn that would look SO pretty with this pattern.
