    I am feeling your pain. However, I try to make videoes for myself and share them with others. Maybe it will help them out. You have great videos and your Engish is good too. I've not had any issues understanding you! I hope you will reconsider and make more great videos. Ignore any haters and do it for the fun and joy! Wishing you all the best!!

    Well I'm subscribed, and this only just showed up in my feed, 2 days after the fact.
    I suspect the algorithm is optimised around big creators and trending videos. I've known a few channels that were tiny, and suddenly grew orders of magnitude from one video.
    I don't think its nefarious, Its just like any other entertainment industry (books, music). You slog for ages getting nowhere, and eventually, hopefully, you make it big.

    I enjoy your stuff. I just noticed your other goodbye show up in my feed earlier. I have no explanation for what works and what doesn't. My most popular video is about repairing my clothes dryer. Of course more people have those than are into retro/tinkering stuff I guess. I understand it can be frustrating. I usually just think that I am sharing something I like and if it goes it goes and if it doesn't it doesn't. I don't think I'll be getting away from my day-job anytime soon/ever :D . Take care.

      @JamiesHackShack yeah, getting away from my day job I didn't consider as an option either. It was more like a science experiment- what does it take to get a 1000 subscribers? Or even to get to monetization. I am still light-years away from that. I now have the utmost respect for folks that achieve these milestones on YT. It must be a tremendous amount of work.

    What makes a "good" video is trends like "the floor is lava". Intelligent content never gets promoted. It is sad to see your channel go, but I hope you are present on other platforms. Unfortunately, UA-cam is the platform where the views are nowadays. Lets hope that the situation changes in the future. I've been looking to replace UA-cam as well.
    P. S.: I see the same exact behavior on my channel. I can only get 50 views per day, if not less, and that's when I get no subscribers. If I get one or two subscribers that day, my views drop dramatically. Clearly throttling.

    I've never seen your channel which is weird since I search for this kind of content all the time. YT is weird as F... why does it shadow ban some videos? Why do videos with stupid open mouth drama thumbnails that are empty of any real substance get 100K views? YT is broken and I don't blame you for giving up on this mess.

    Super interesting. I see similar patterns. I only started making videos to share little technical knickknacks that I think are neat. Most of my older videos are just a couple of minutes long. Only the last couple of longer "computer" videos I have released have seen any "significant" distribution and, even then, the patterns are weird.

      YT algorithm is unpredictable. However, I do think there is clear evidence of active suppression and throttling. What on earth could account for the almost instantaneous flattening of some of these curves, especially if these were off to a very good start. Then something just pulled the plug. This doesn't look like a natural process.

      @@michaelwessel4953 UA-cam's been pushing people to be more dynamic. However, this is foolish, as people like you have a niche that you developed, and a passion for that niche. People burn out much faster as a result from what I see, though I gave up because Fair Use was being mistreated by Google and UA-cam initially began to place requirements on channels.

    UA-cam is a swamp of content both good and bad. I have nearly a thousand subscriptions - far too many to keep up with! (even the very best ones!) I think if you haven't had a lucky break then you have to further build your 'brand' beyond these walls - Discord, Patreon, wherever.
    The tools and opportunities to 'break through' here alone just aren't viable.

    ROFL... similar experiences here, too, unfortunately. Once, in fact, one of my videos was copied over to a Chinese video service site (Bilibili)... and guess what... on that MUCH SMALLER site, as an isolated video among many, it actually performed TWICE BETTER than on UA-cam. I also saw recently a very successful channel of some Indian gentleman who had, apparently, created a channel entirely out of stolen and chopped up interview videos. (I.e. videos of longer interviews that had no obvious connection to him, snipped into 3-5 min sequences.) This is what UA-cam "really wants".

      YT is about business - content gets disseminated if they can place ads and have a large target group. Content quality and/or uniqueness doesn't matter :-) Once they have your data / average curve, they start throttling you and using this to distribute your content, or not. If you find yourself in a place like I, it might be best to delete the profile / account and start over. Fresh start = less algorithmic bias :-D

      @ I am using my channel a bit like a business card for tech expertise, so I will not reaort to this. But if I start over - it will not be on UA-cam: Instagram & TikTok ahoy!

      @@michaelwessel4953unironically what happened to me: I had one video that performed really well and carried the whole channel, and apparently all the other videos were just... not suggested?
      ???

    @flyaway6671 Місяць тому +4

    Firstly, your content is very niche, the thumbnails and titles are not optimised.
    Also UA-cam will not promote you if you keep making content, they will do it when it senses you are going to stop (like now lol)
    Ultimately your kind of content getting this many views is normal to me, if you actually want to become a bigger youtuber you will need to seek an advisor to improve your content and strategy.

    • @michaelwessel4953
      @michaelwessel4953  Місяць тому +3

      Absolutely - but that's not fun anymore for me. Being on Patreon, and having an "influencer campaign" on X and what have you is crucial to get initial views. In comparison to some other channels with 10ks of views and likes, it's not that niche I would claim. Anyhow, it's not fun like this, because it seems that content is throttled brutally, even if it initially seems to go off like a rocket. I agree that my content kind of sucks, but at least it was unique. What I had on my channel, you couldn't get anywhere else 😂

    • @tcscomment
      @tcscomment Місяць тому +1

      @@michaelwessel4953uniqueness is actually a detrimental factor on this platform: the more useless and overproduced and kid-friendly and long your videos are, the more you get suggested, because they want to have monetizable topics for advertising, and it's REALLY hard to place a relevant ad on a video about a computer from 1982.
      also, the longer your video is, the more ads they can place, the more it (usually) gets suggested.

      @bloguetronica Місяць тому +1

      You should know that that argument won't stick. What deceiving title should he use? What clickbaity thumbnails? Also, the community of retro gaming is sizeable, despite being relatively small.

    • @bloguetronica
      @bloguetronica Місяць тому

      @@tcscomment Exactly! That's why UA-cam promotes trends and copycat videos. It is views for views sake, unfortunately, because YT bottom end is advertising and not content sharing. That's why clickbait videos always get promoted, even if they don't add anything really useful to the lives of the viewers.
