The Fairly OddParents Movie We Want To Forget...

- Today we sat down and watched A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! Even without nickelodeon running the TV Show into the ground, this live action adaptation falls flat on it's face with poor casting, bad CGI, and a soulless story. Oh yeah and Drake Bell is in this movie, so if you needed another reason to hate this movie you're all set.

A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! - 2011
Real life Timmy Turner has refused to grow up in order to keep his fairy godparents. But when a love interest and an evil tycoon both come to town, Timmy's bond with his fairies is put to the ultimate test.

Timmy refusing to grow up and move on with his life feels like the perfect metaphor for Nickelodeon refusing to let FOP and SpongeBob die a decade after their prime
Literally 💯💯💯💯
We're on our 50th FOP title and the 70th SpongeBob season with 20 spin offs.
I would rather have 25 years of non stop SpongeBob than have them do reboot after Reboot of SpongeBob because they would have totally done after Hillenburg passed it if they let Stephen have his way with the first movie being the finale. Butch is destroying his own legacy and creations, by adding useless characters and being a general narcissist. Nick doing bad spinoffs got nothing on making your shows live action. They haven’t reached that level and I’m proud they haven’t done anything about that to SpongeBob yet (HOPEFULLY)
But they should totally find the next big thing other than SpongeBob and Henry Danger
Tbh imagine still watching Nickelodeon
Facts
Timmy's Dad is probably the closest part of this movie to actually vibing with the show. His voice actor in the show looks close enough to the character to be believable.
His was also mercurymon in digimon.
@@nathanblevins9870 and Knock Out in "Transformers Prime"
He was also Gordy in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide
It helps that he's the literal actual voice-actor. For both Timmy's dad *and* Cosmo.
@@ggrarl I love Knockout
It really helped that the actor who played Timmy's Dad (Daran Norris) was just the same actor that played Timmy's Dad in the cartoon. One of the few positives in this film. (If you even want to call it a film)
I wouldnt even be surprised if one of the ppl who worked on movies like sharkula or velocipastor (search them up, they were literally filmed in somebody’s backyard) also worked on this
But no DINKLEBURG?!?!?!?!?
Josiah: Always positive, sunny and smiling. The one who tries to find something good or at least logical even in the worst of things.
Bren: In constant disappointed Dad Mode. He laughs but we know there is judgement behind it.
Jude: In a constant state of wanting to be launched into the sun. Every new video we see the existential dread in his eyes.
You guys make a GREAT trio!
Josiah was pissed during the Shak Boy and Lava Girl commentary XD

What's weird is, I watched this movie as a kid when it first premiered, yet I had _no memory whatsoever_ of Poof being in it
The reason Crookers back was in such pain was from Carrying this entire movie Franchise
Nah he carried the entire series
For nothing because it got ruined by this movie and the newer episodes, and the timmy and jimmy crossover

Looking back on it now, this movie eerily mimics real life. While Josh Peck went on to lose weight, get married and establish himself as a full fledged actor, Drake went on to stagnate, acting the same as he did in childhood and desperately trying to remain cool and accessible to kids (in more ways then one) Also, Butch Hartman's art in CGI is absolutely ghoulish.
Josh Peck a good man.
Drake and Butch, *VERY VERY BAD*
Interesting watching the comments after documentary "Quiet on set" where internet switch sides between Drake and Josh

I totally forgot that Drake Bell was in this movie, when I was younger I didn’t know who he was so I just thought it was some random guy. Even as a kid I was like “man this sucks” and that’s coming from someone who genuinely enjoyed Hoodwinked
Yeah but at least hoodwinked is good
I want to see those edited versions of the movie that are like "Fairly odd movie but with no fairies" and is just drake bell talking to nothing for like 90 minutes

I love the shot of the class room with all the kids and then in the middle of the class is just adult drake bell as if we're supposed to believe that he's around the same age as them
No the movie logic is even stupider, Drake Bell is legit just supposed to be an older Timmy who never left elementary school.. he is not meant to be "the same age as them" he is legit meant to be an adult man in a school for children who was so dumb he got held back for years
I actually did forget about this movie.
I would like to go back to that.
the most terrifying part are the models for cosmo and wanda

This is funny because I was around 7 or 8 years old when this movie came out and I distinctively remember for some odd reason getting so scared by the design of Cosmo and Wanda that I begun to have nightmares about them. These nightmares became so constant and intense that I would thrash around violently in my sleep and wake up screaming. I was then diagnosed with sleep terrors.
LMAO, you should sue Nickelodeon for traumatizing you
If you're gonna do the third one where they go to the beach, I suggest skipping the punch scale with a different one that is even more painful, 'cause they made a much creepier version of 3d Timmy Turner, and it's even worse than Cosmo, Wanda and Poof combined (they took Cosmo's 3d render and re-colored him to look like Timmy and then call it a day. Plus, he doesn't have his buck teeth that he's known for).
You didn't include the most important detail:he turns into a fairy by falling into lava and thats why he's cgi
The reason behind the buck teeth is because adult version didn't had them bruh
@@Tommyknocker.So why did he have his 10 year old voice instead of his adult voice?
@@CMan-x7k -"Because he's a tiny puny FAIRY!"
That’s the one I always try to avoid.
What's funnier about this movie is that the girl is supposed to be Tootie, the kid who was obsessed with Timmy in the show

Timmy's dad in the movie is played by the same voice actor who voiced him in the show. So that at least is why he sounds and acts so on point. Im fairly sure the mother is not played by the same woman, but she did very well regardless.

Interesting. Thanks for the trivia.
I like how they randomly started making jokes about Seinfeld but didn't mention the fact that human Cosmo is played by George Costanza himself Jason Alexander.

Timmy Turner has aged 20 years and still has his fairly odd parents… Aren’t they supposed to leave at that point?
Actually, they address this. Timmy found a loophole to keep his fairies, that being that he stays in the same elementary school grade forever. So, he is twenty, and in like, grade 5.

The line "I wish I was Drake Bell" that showed up in the commercials & advertising for this movie is now just a line of infamy lmfao.
My favorite part was when timmy said, "it fairing time" and fairied all over the place.
Out of all the people they could’ve cast as Timmy, they chose Drake Bell, the actor of all time.
I can already hear it
" *WHY!* "
Hello
That’s not Timmy turner
That’s tommy rotated
There’s so many times in this movie where literally nobody questions how Timmy is doing miracles like he’s Jesus and it’s kinda funny.

I’m sorry you’re telling me that the baby after 20 years still hasn’t even grown the fuck up
It’s even funnier since both the main show and the revival directly contradict this, the former by having him learn to talk in his second to last appearance and the latter by making him a full on adult.
My mom love this show. When I told her about this monster, she had the same face as Jude in the Batman movie
Live action Fairly Oddparents starring Dream as the Crimson Chin
When I was younger, I watched this movie with my friend, and we both ate a tub of rainbow sherbet and we woke up at 11 am. It was great.
If I had a nickel for every time Jude mistook a type of clarinet for an oboe, I'd have 2 nickels. Which it isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
5:45, I thought he was about to pull out a gun
I wouldn’t have been surprised
As a band kid, I'm pretty sure that wasn't an oboe. It was either a clarinet, a bass clarinet, or a bassoon because an Oboe can't play that low
The actors of Timmy's parents are the ones who play them in the show and fun fact they also voice Cosmo and Wanda
Only the dad, but not the mom. She was played by Cheryl Hines. In the cartoon she was portrayed by Susan Blankee. It blew my mind that Gordy played Cosmo and Timmy’s Dad
So that's why they sound like them.

When I was a kid I watched this movie and even then I was very deeply unsettled with the CGI they used
I had a giant satellite dish like that when I was a kid. It was before Dish Network/DirecTV and the mini dishes were a thing. You had to program it to rotate so it could line up with the actual satellites.
Leave it to Microwave Society to find a terrible movie and make it into hilarious content with their dialogue.

That’s a smarter way to exist
Remember the one episode where Timmy grows up and almost instantly gets in jail.
Drake's cast as adult Timmy is very fitting
Honestly they should have had Cosmo and Wanda stay real for the whole movie
The instrument at 8:26 is not an Oboe, but rather a clarinet. Slightly better but not much.
7:43 Instructions unclear, shot a 9mm pistol through the window.
This is taking me flashbacks about that ceo of nickelodeon, she used to be rude to workers and rejecting good show pilots like adventure time for quote "too weird" and adding fanboy and chumchum which is more weirder, and still making the animators continuing the spongebob series even though stephen hillenburg wanted the series to end after the movie, and also turning the nickelodeon splat into a bland logo and making bad decisions and adding another weird show called breadwinners. I think employees will get a raise for being treated terribly.
