My friend gave me her soprano to try and it had the tie strings. Didn't want to mess with that so I tied beads to the end. Worked like a charm

Lisa, what was the brand of strings you recommended. Do you like the brown strings?

I haven't tried Worth's brown strings. I have used Aquila Reds for several years now and have been super happy with the bright sound and crisp attack. @@9316078695

Nice video Lisa. I never really understood the fancy tie-bar thing, but the 2x4 made it clear. I highly recommend using a winder. It will save you a lot of tedious cranking.

I am so glad the 2x4 helped. I created that for an in person class that I did in Fairbanks. I keep thinking I should get a winder, but then that would be one more piece of small equipment clanking my office.

Do you recommend any specific cleaner or tuning gel for contact points? I was told by a music store that the gel is needed to stop “pinging” sounds. Was he just trying to make a sale? How often should I use it if it is needed?

That's the first I have heard of that. I have been to 2 different ukulele shops and they were using just a soft cloth. I don't remember seeing any specific cleaner, but those were new instruments. My Martin has a build-up of grime below the sound hole. I'm going to investigate a cleaner and put it on a short. I'm going to try the D'Addario Lemon Oil. Stay tuned - great question!!
