To me, the N-Sane Trilogy looked a little... "uncanny". Something about the silly, cartoony Crash Bandicoot looking more realistic than usual kind of felt like the first design of Sonic from that movie... It grew on me though. I still love that trilogy.
@@penitentone6998 except its not floaty because everyone who has played the demo said it literally controls the exact same way as the originals except for the slide and there are reasons for that. They changed how the double jump mechanics work as well so that platforming is more precision based than ever before. If you double jump and let go of the control stick u have an extra second of air time and your momentum completely stops so you drop like a rock. If u don't let go of the control stick then ur momentum carries. Thats the only instances of floaty gameplay you will find and that's not even really what flaoty gameplay really means. But of course stupid crash fans always like to make stupid assumptions like these without actually listening to what people who have played the games say.
At the start I thought that the more 'realistic looking' Crash Trilogy was better but after this video I really think that Crash is entirely better with this art style!
Great comparison Nick, the new graphic style looks great overall but i do wish that Crash still had the furry look that he had in the N Sane Trilogy but hey at least the gameplay looks great and i've finally seen some :)
@#CrashBandicootandSpyroTheDragon eh, only 2 months out from release its unlikely that these animations aren't final. The game is finished, now til release is pretty much just bug fixing
Crash 4 seems to run at 60fps on consoles, while N.Sane Trilogy only runs at 30fps. I'm happy that the new one is an improvement!! I tried playing the N.Sane Trilogy on PS4 but the low frame rate made me buy the PC version which I should have done in the first place.
Crash N.Sane runs at 1440p30 on PS4Pro but Crash 4 knocks it down to 1080p to achieve 60fps. So no magic here, there is a sacrifice in visual quality being made to enable 60fps. Hopefully Crash 4 gets released on PC too for that 4k120+ goodness.
I spoke with the developers about this - they're not ready to talk tech when it comes to framerate/resolution. I think they're still trying to decide on whether to sacrifice performance for resolution or vice/versa. The demo I played absolutely ran smoother than Crash N Sane Trilogy though.
@@HeloisGevit I'll happily take the small as hell "visual loss" if that means the game is 60fps and not gutter garbage 30fps. If you're sitting many feet away from your TV then you won't even notice the difference in visuals in any way, but you will notice the massive frame rate difference. Hell, even if you sit less than a feet away, the difference is still going to be small as hell in terms of visuals.
@@Nick930 If they for some unholy reason decide to go with 30fps on consoles then I don't think I'll ever buy their games in the future, and I'll wait for the eventual PC version of this game lol.
Also, I love the thumbnail! :D Crash Bandicoot on the right side is like: "Heh ,get a load of this guy! Ha! XDThank you, Toys for Bob for giving me and my sister Coco as well as the rest of the video game an extreme makeover! ";D
I'm pretty sure it won't. Read Polygon's review of the N Sane Trilogy (or don't). Basically, this weakling complained about not being able to proceed if she lost in the motorcycle levels of Warped. "Being unable to advance in a game because you can’t come in first place in a racing level ends up being more time-consuming than challenging." So yeah, when you have people complaining about being forced to, you know, WIN at a video game to proceed, you know that games are going to get toned down.
I hope we can change the models to our preference such as a more consistent Cortex look or have the new Cortex look. Something to satisfy everyone because I'm fine with the Crash design but I'd like to have the older Cortex. I would say the new one is like his son but not actually him
@@GioPilgrim Agreed. And that "new" mode where you have infinite lives? That's modern gaming right there. If it would be narrative-driven like Witcher 3 then I'd understand but this ... Nevertheless I have high hopes for this one.
I'm really interested to see what more Crash 4 has to offer. Sure, the art style is a little bit questionable, especially with the N-sane Trilogy doing very good, but at least it's not as bad as Crash of the Titans or Mind over Mutant. In those games, I could barely even know who they are. But in Crash 4, I can see the real Crash, Cortex, Coco, Aku Aku and the rest.
I don't really mind the redesign for a more cartoony and stylized approach, but the animations still feel a bit off to me (specifically the player controlled animations). There's some little things with player controlled and some enemy movements that still feel a little robotic and unnatural. I feel like it's most noticeable during jumps, the rail grinding, and his body slam. I understand it's suppose to be cartoony, but the movement still needs to feel believable. I really liked the animations Toys for Bob did with the Spyro remake so I'm hoping they're able to bring this game to that same level of polish.
I love Crash Bandicoot as much as anyone and the original trilogy are some of my favourite games. The only issues I’m having with what I’ve seen so far is that the original games and N Sane trilogy felt like they were designed for all ages but Crash 4 feels like it’s designed for kids by way of visuals. Just my opinion.
I'm not that big of a fan of his huge shoulders in the redesign. On the other hand, i hated his pink muzzle in n sane trilogy. His box art design is absolutely perfect.
Man I initially liked 4's style less but now I think it's gorgeous! The only aspect that looks kinda iffy is water (mostly waterfalls and wherever there's turbulence).
I am hyped for this game, but the running animation looks weird to me. The previous design for cortex was better, but I don't mind how the characters look now
The more realistic art style and shaded graphics of the N. Sane Trilogy are awesome, but the more cartoony animations and stylized graphics in Crash 4 have this certain soul to them that captivates what made me love Crash so much as a kid. It reminds me of the redesign of Sonic in the Sonic The Hedgehog movie which is perfect for Sonic. I hope this Crash design sticks around awhile ‘cuz it’s the best one yet.
I love how people ignorantly says "there is zero design changes compared to N. Sane Trilogy" and "Crash is always looks like doritos" etc. Like, no wtf. N. Sane Trilogy design and Crash 4 design is miles apart from each other. I loved the design of N. Sane Trilogy and honestly I don't understand why Activision didn't let Vicarious Vision handle 4 as well.
Because one is a remake and the other is a continuation of the story, maybe they thought Toys for Bob was better for it or someone from there had a story for a continuation and pitched it.
Vicarious Visions is working on another project. Tony hawk's pro skater 1&2 remake. And given the last time activision rushed a tony hawk's pro skater game, I think they would want as much attention focused on getting that right as possible. Meanwhile toys for bob also worked on N. Sane with Vicarious Visions, and ported the game to switch, so it's not like they don't also have an understanding of the core gameplay.
If that is what just two levels have to offer image what the other +98 will offer too. I will definitely purchase this game for sure. Looks like great fun and I do appreciate the unique change to the art style of the game. Yeah it may not look like the N. Sane Trilogy Crash, but sometimes traditions can offer welcoming changes to the original formula and I think this is definitely a welcomed change. As I look at Crash 4 more and more I can defiantly appreciate the effort and hard work that went to making a Crash Bandicoot game not only play like the others but look and feel so unique to all the rest of them. Plus you gotta appreciate those sweet 60 frames per second, really adds to the whole experience in my opinion. This was a wonderful in depth comparison as all of your detailed comparison videos are. Keep up the amazing work.
Can you tell me does the story continue to Crash3 where Cortex ended somwhere in time and was baby? I hope they explained new masks too, bcz AKU AKU was Crash Mask always (to bad we do not know how they meet eachothers). In this new game I only do not like how Crash looks and how he runs. It feels weird.
Honestly I wouldn’t even say that the art style is that different. I feel like crash 4 is just building on the foundations left by the trilogy! The worlds look very similar graphically, I’d say you only really notice differences when it comes to the characters! Either way both look great and crash 4 genuinely looks fantastic
The only "problem" i have with Crash for is the running annimation... It looks for my taste way to "goofy" and becouse of this i'm concerned it could not be as snappy / precise like the N. Sane trilogy
Do y'all listen to yourselves when you say "Crash Bandicoot looks too goofy in this game" The character is a DIRECT reference to old Warner Bros. Cartoon aesthetics. Crash 4 has never looked closer to its original roots.
@@ROT695 I think what people mean by being too goofy is that in the original trilogy Crash had a "cool factor" that went along with his goofiness. He had a balance of being goofy but cool at the same time. The problem with most of the PS2 versions, is they they just went straight out goofy with him. Of Course he is and is supposed to be a goofy cartoon inspired character but he's also a badass character at the same time. Hopefully you get what I mean by this.
"a more challenging experience than the original trilogy" With more reactive controls, infinite lives and an icon mid-air which tells you where you're jumping? The game seems gorgeous and a true successor, but I disagree about the skill ceiling, this seem way easier than the others.
Plus they added a modern mode with a death counter instead of lives as an easy mode for newcomers. There is going to be a retro mode where you can play like the original games with a life system and crash crates that give you a 1 up so there is no worry there. Having the option to remove the highlighted shadow as you jump would be nice for hardcore players but the new change is beneficial to old and new players with the game's increased difficulty
They obviously made those changes, so they can have more in-depth platforming. They are just upping the difficulty, and already looks more menacing, than anything from the OG trilogy.
Honestly, Crash looks like trash in 4.... They should using his model from the trilogy. All the character models look better and more detailed in the trilogy WTF.
You obviously don't want to use the same model since its not their model and its from a different game engine/artstyle. It wouldn't fit + they wanted to make it from scratch.
@@giannistek1 Then explain to me how the hell did spyro with that same art style model from spyro trilogy made it into CTRNF and somehow it fit perfectly. I haven't heard anyone complained at all.
Watchingto Uchiha You know that the Spyro trilogy used the Unreal engine 4 like Nitro Fueled and N. Sane, right. Toys for Bob wanted to change the model up because it’s their chose, not ours.
Ooh, I like how it's looking so far. I'm usually pretty skeptical about this kind of thing, but it looks like they're really doing Crash justice. Keeping the same style of gameplay and doubling down on the difficulty. Well, they've won me over.
Crash 4 has so much more personality and I love it. It's literally oozing with it from the character redesigns, animations both facial and body movement, and the overall tone of the game. I think it'll be great and an improvement over what we currently have.
From what Toys for Bob has told us of the story Cortex is younger then he was in Crash Warped since he was de-aged to a baby at the end of that game.

I mean, Crash Bandicoot games have a bunch of collectibles for you to find in levels, so it makes perfect sense for the hallway-based gameplay to have become open-world in Twinsanity. But that's just my thoughts.
In which aspects TWS and WOC failed?
Great video!
Looks better than the new Halo.
What you mean, was the halo gameplay Bad?
It literally does.
@@elladoros I think he means visually. Nobody was complainig about Halo Infinite's gameplay, they complained that it looked ugly.
@@Crit-Chance oh, alright. I mean imo the armor looks kinda big
@@Crit-Chance Even the gamplay was kinda meh tbh
I actually liked a lot more the Insane Triology visuals

It is Awesome that developers are looking towards you for your input before releasing a game Nick. Shows they actually care about what the players recognise as a good game and good improvements from original titles. GJ!
I love what they're doing with the gameplay and the environments, but i hate what they did with the characters. NST designs (and even 4's concept/box art) look waaay better. Cortex looks like discount Megamind and Coco is simply awful. Thankfully Crash looks ok, i hope the other characters will look as good.
Is it that serious
I Like Crash And Coco’s Design Idk about Cortex
Bruh it not that serious
@@Thehunter905 I have been a fan of the series for 17 years and i am entitled to my opinion. It doesn't matter if it is that serious or not; i don't like these designs and that's it. If you do, good for you, i guess.
Yet again you provide the best in documenting games :) amazing work as always! Massive fan since day 1 😍
To me, the N-Sane Trilogy looked a little... "uncanny". Something about the silly, cartoony Crash Bandicoot looking more realistic than usual kind of felt like the first design of Sonic from that movie...
It grew on me though. I still love that trilogy.
I never knew Kirmit the frog had a UA-cam channel
Is it me or does Crash look like the hunchback of notre dame when he's running?
This is so beautiful and promising
So which one is better the N Sane Trilogy version or the new one?
@@jasonjones8038 don't know. The game is not out yet to judge :D
Is it just me or the animations on Crash 4 looks a little more stiff?
Yes but keep in mind it’s still unfinished
@@LG41R542 No this has nothing to do with the game being unfinished. The "stiff" movements was made intentionally. It compliments the games art style
Stiff and way too floaty
L G41r “It’s unfinished” that argument has never held up for ANY game in history lol.
Actually crash always been know to be cartoony character
@@Thehunter905 Exactly. He was heavily inspired by the loony toons
@@1Chasg wait really
KINGkt Gamer Yeah he was. It was one of the inspirations
The change from 30fps to 60 is huge
It's not official yet
It looks the same to me. Maybe a little bit better, but not extremely.
Crash 4 in the thumbnail be like: "Get a load of this guy"
Great comparison Nick, the new graphic style looks great overall but i do wish that Crash still had the furry look that he had in the N Sane Trilogy but hey at least the gameplay looks great and i've finally seen some :)
But he does, it's just more stylized not super detailed like n.sane, no?
On your thumbnail of this video.
Where is that scene on Crash pointing with his thumb with a “are you serious?” Expression?
It’s priceless lol
I like most of the visual style, but I really dislike the exaggerated running animation.
Alsop's Gaming he’s not as animated as he was in the old games when running from something
@#CrashBandicootandSpyroTheDragon eh, only 2 months out from release its unlikely that these animations aren't final. The game is finished, now til release is pretty much just bug fixing
N Sane Trilogy: Smash Bros Brawl art style
Crash 4: Smash Bros Ultimate art style.
N-Sane Trilogy Looks a lot better imo
Nah
Crash Bandicoot 4 looks cartoony than N-Sane Trilogy, in my opinion. Not that i'm complaining, i like the art styles in Crash Bandicoot 4.
They both look good for different reasons.
In terms of graphics hell no but the art direction is slightly better
@@someguyonyt2831 That's fair enough. I'm not liking the new look, but to each there own.
I like the Crash 4 style, it feels much more in line with the aesthetic of what the original games were going for
Crash 4 seems to run at 60fps on consoles, while N.Sane Trilogy only runs at 30fps.
@@Nick930 They should just offer both 1440p30 and 1080p60 and let people decide for themselves.
XD
@@fahadsaad750 Glad I tickled your bone ,my friend! ;)
Omar Santiago Thank You
@@fahadsaad750 You're welcome! :D Happy 24 year anniversary of Crash Bandicoot!
Omar Santiago Woah!
The platinum trophy better require the classic difficulty mode otherwise I'll be very upset
You know it dude
I'm pretty sure it won't. Read Polygon's review of the N Sane Trilogy (or don't). Basically, this weakling complained about not being able to proceed if she lost in the motorcycle levels of Warped.
"Being unable to advance in a game because you can’t come in first place in a racing level ends up being more time-consuming than challenging."
So yeah, when you have people complaining about being forced to, you know, WIN at a video game to proceed, you know that games are going to get toned down.
@@dapperfan44 idk people are saying crash 4 is really hard though so I'm hoping since trophies are optional they would be really challenging
Cortex looks like King Vegeta..... I like it!!
Cortex looks young cause he is. Remember he was set back in time as a baby and grew up plotting his revenge. He states this in the trailer.
Yes
Nick, you're probably my favorite UA-camr and I appreciate every video you make. You deserve way more subscribers. I hope you keep at it. 👉👈👌
I hope we can change the models to our preference such as a more consistent Cortex look or have the new Cortex look.
Something to satisfy everyone because I'm fine with the Crash design but I'd like to have the older Cortex. I would say the new one is like his son but not actually him
u deserve wayyyy more subs bro
I just hope they remove the reticle showing off after you jump. His natural shadow felt perfectly fine
Today's games are made for casual gamers sadly
@@GioPilgrim Agreed. And that "new" mode where you have infinite lives? That's modern gaming right there. If it would be narrative-driven like Witcher 3 then I'd understand but this ... Nevertheless I have high hopes for this one.
Im sure they'll add a toggle in the menu for it, they'd be stupid if not
Probably you can turn that off. This isn't the final version. I hope so
It might be in the options. The demo doesn't let you change the settings, so we don't know yet.
Like both art styles.
I Like Crash Of Titans It’s Not The Worst Game
@@fahadsaad750 worst is crash bandicoot purple ripto's rampage or something like that
matty Good Thing I Didn’t Play That Game
I don't really mind the redesign for a more cartoony and stylized approach, but the animations still feel a bit off to me (specifically the player controlled animations). There's some little things with player controlled and some enemy movements that still feel a little robotic and unnatural. I feel like it's most noticeable during jumps, the rail grinding, and his body slam. I understand it's suppose to be cartoony, but the movement still needs to feel believable. I really liked the animations Toys for Bob did with the Spyro remake so I'm hoping they're able to bring this game to that same level of polish.
This game is gonna be awesome as hell!!
Yeah, those shoulders throw me off a bit
Excellent vide comparison, thank you
not gonna lie I really dig the artstyle and graphics of this game
Me too
Cortex was turned into a baby so it makes sense that he would look younger if he had to age back up before escaping that void.
Ok I am really really excited for this, I am absolutely in love with the artstyle and the gameplay looks AWESOME, and just *hype noises*
SAME
Man I initially liked 4's style less but now I think it's gorgeous! The only aspect that looks kinda iffy is water (mostly waterfalls and wherever there's turbulence).
I don't like how aku aku goes arround crash , instead of following you, like in the old trilogy 🤷🏻
Cortex is technically younger because the game takes place after crash 3's secret ending
I am hyped for this game, but the running animation looks weird to me. The previous design for cortex was better, but I don't mind how the characters look now
Yeah running animation has been bugging me, no real flow to his arm but other than that game looks amazing.
I love the new design more, its so expressive and cohesive
YEAH
I really liked it. It is classical modenized and improved. I really liked it.
*I like more the new design of crash 4 it's abou time*
Me too
Can you tell me does the story continue to Crash3 where Cortex ended somwhere in time and was baby? I hope they explained new masks too, bcz AKU AKU was Crash Mask always (to bad we do not know how they meet eachothers).
In this new game I only do not like how Crash looks and how he runs. It feels weird.
it just seems like they somehow made Crash look like a hunchback, and he's waayyy too jittery (like when he's just standing) and runs like a freak
I agree,he looked way better i insane trilogy
But Crash IS a jittery freak
Honestly I wouldn’t even say that the art style is that different. I feel like crash 4 is just building on the foundations left by the trilogy! The worlds look very similar graphically, I’d say you only really notice differences when it comes to the characters! Either way both look great and crash 4 genuinely looks fantastic
I'm SOOOO glad it's gonna be more difficult I thought it was going to be easier
Those Cortex intersections are gonna be so fun!
The only "problem" i have with Crash for is the running annimation...
It looks for my taste way to "goofy" and becouse of this i'm concerned it could not be as snappy / precise like the N. Sane trilogy
Same here. But the movement feels identical so dont worry about that.
I did like the smoother animations in the trilogy more
Gelber Drache Way too goofy looking? Crash has always been a goofy character. He was designed with loony tunes in mind after all
Do y'all listen to yourselves when you say "Crash Bandicoot looks too goofy in this game"
The character is a DIRECT reference to old Warner Bros. Cartoon aesthetics. Crash 4 has never looked closer to its original roots.
Grizzerz I don’t understand it either
@@ROT695 I think what people mean by being too goofy is that in the original trilogy Crash had a "cool factor" that went along with his goofiness. He had a balance of being goofy but cool at the same time. The problem with most of the PS2 versions, is they they just went straight out goofy with him. Of Course he is and is supposed to be a goofy cartoon inspired character but he's also a badass character at the same time. Hopefully you get what I mean by this.
Plot twist: at the end of the game, Cortex gets his head banged to resemble the square top we al know and love.
"a more challenging experience than the original trilogy"
With more reactive controls, infinite lives and an icon mid-air which tells you where you're jumping?
The game seems gorgeous and a true successor, but I disagree about the skill ceiling, this seem way easier than the others.
Those features dont make the game easier. The actual obstacles themselves are more challenging for sure
Uhh yeah this game is still TBA, Just hope that they'll remove that feature.
4:55 you can see Crash leaves some smoke behind. Still, it's hard to see and I want the shoes back
Animations look smoother in N Sane Trilogy, but I guess its just the art style
The highlighted shadow underneath crash will help so much with platforming in levels ❤️
Honestly, Crash looks like trash in 4.... They should using his model from the trilogy. All the character models look better and more detailed in the trilogy WTF.
Hey it they game so be happy it happen
@@person8943 hmmm well i guess i learn something new everyday🤷🏾♂️
I wonder if the slide spin jump is still present along with using the spin for canceling the slide dash's endlag.
Hopefully we can turn the yellow circle off...that just makes platforming a bit too easy
I'm attempting to 106% complete Crash 4 again without the yellow circle
They nailed it! So glad this character got a new decent game again after so many years!
Honestly i love this new art style .
Coco is AMAZING
Yes!
I love the fact that they added the circle under crash to see where youre landing
Huge Crash fan here, however I can’t put it into words how much I HATE the new art style. It’s almost Crash of The Titans level awful.
Yikes - i wouldn't say it's quite like that game
I thing it still look like crash

Well I Like It
crash 4 looks way fresher than n sane trilogy.
Yes
I dunno about removing the fur, but I guess "cartoony" look is not bad as well. Need to wait till October to see
Looking super good
Design terrible ugly......... N-Sane Trilogy was perfect.
IMO I Perfer This One
Ooh, I like how it's looking so far. I'm usually pretty skeptical about this kind of thing, but it looks like they're really doing Crash justice. Keeping the same style of gameplay and doubling down on the difficulty. Well, they've won me over.
Insane trilogy art design was better. 4 looks too “cutesy” and tamed down.
But He Is WAY More Expressive
Fahad Saad In a childish cutesy way...yes he is.
Crash 4 has so much more personality and I love it. It's literally oozing with it from the character redesigns, animations both facial and body movement, and the overall tone of the game. I think it'll be great and an improvement over what we currently have.
