I admired setups like this during my time as an apprentice. Always amazing to watch those threads appear out of nowhere. One of the joys of machining!
Thread cutting is one of the coolest things to machine in my opinion.
My first time thread cutting on a CNC lathe was so satisfying. Get the tool set up. Get a piece in. Quick program putting in thread size, length, spring passes, pitch etc etc. Press run and sit back and watch in amazement! Had to do a few test pieces because no one would believe me how fast it could cut perfect thread!
That’s amazing. Such a satisfying threading video. Would love to see more content like this!
The only lathe thread cutting I've done has been on a manual lathe. This video is so cool to watch I need to get my hands on a cnc lathe.
Cutting threads on an engine lathe are always so satisfying when you don't have to do any massaging to open up the fit. I got to cut a left-handed trapezoidal metric thread for the first time recently!
Working as a machinist in a foreign oil company I've learned almost everything, I can say with confidence that thread cutting is one of my favourites works
I can remember my first internal thread. Nerve wrecking is an understatement! Not to mention the lathe I learned on had no DRO and the backlash in it was unbelievable.
Always liked the feeling of watching a thread get picked back up on a manual lathe over and over again!
Always loved threading on the manual machines in school. Hopefully I’ll get to try it on the cnc machines at work soon! Great video
Make it look so easy! What sort of inserts and tool bars would you guys suggest for a little 10" south bend and AXA toolholders working mostly mild steel?
Just starting out on a lathe and hope to do some threading soon. Curious what the difference in inserts are.
What type of insert is best for cutting threads in 01
Thread cutting always looks so cool. I love learning about the mechanisms that make it possible on a lathe.
I remember my first time threading on a manual. I made 3/4-28 threads 😂
I mainly cut J threads but have a hard time getting rid of the chatter.Slower RPMs help but is there something else I can do to help reduce chatter when cutting threads on my lathe?
Any tips for measuring the pitch large dia. Id thread besides a thread gauge?
Amazing to watch. I still have to figure out how to do it on my lathe.
What tooling do you use for this? Trying to learn more about it and try myself.
Would you be able to cut a thread for say a micrometer more accurately on a lathe or with a die?
If i only had a cnc routed lathe... is there a way to cut this by hand on a manual lathe?
Love following your Instagram and UA-cam video posts, I am beginner operating a lathe and your videos are extremely helpful to improve my skills learning tricks and tips. Thanks again guys. MJ
I’ve done exterior thread cutting but not inner thread cutting. Looks pretty awesome! Might need to give it a try
I'm lucky that most of the manual threads I cut are on the little Hardinge. Auto stop is so so nice. Love watching this video! Still working on learning all the ins ans outs of CNC threading.
I allways just love it when the Doosan i work on spits parts with prefect threads and the simplicity that it cuts them. Love ur channel.
Great representation of various threading setups. To me, threading is one of the most satisfying shop practices you can execute. That is once you master it.
As a manual machinist, one of my favorite things to do is single point thread. And although I've gotten efficient at it, it was one of the basics on a lathe that took me the longest to pick up.
Ive only ever threaded on a manual lathe and it was some of the most fun ive had on any manual machine, getting the timing right was a bit tricky for me though.
Love seeing the close up slow mo shots of threads being cut!
Great compilation! Are there any different infeed methods used throughout these cuts?
Hoping to try out some thread cutting on the cnc when the shop is open again.
Setting up to chase threads is always a nerve racking thing.
Fixing to learn how to single point thread next semester, can't wait!
Picking up threads is always a blast and extremely satisfying when the chips cut on both sides of the insert. Great vid! 🤘🏻
There is something about the feeling of turning some beauty threads on a manual lathe that really makes you feel like an machinist. 😎
For me thread cutting is something that I find satisfying and I generally enjoy threading on a manual lathe.
When Thread cutting when do you usually use coolant?
Awesome! Really enjoyed the one clip of the part with a mirror finish being threaded.
Used to run an Okuma that primarily cut pipe threads on 10"-20" cast iron pipe and that was it. Haven't done much threading since but this is a nice change of scenery.
Lathe threading is very satisfying. I am not very experienced on manual lathe but cnc is dialed. I also found if you are threading Titanium or Nitronic 60 use 29 degrees in the last 2 digits of the G76 P Value. 👍🏻
I love watching the threads get on the lathe still work.
So satisfying could watch it all day
Something satisfying about thread turning on the lathe.Cool video.
Interesting to see the different choices of oil or lubricant, this was a major point of contention in the last job shop I worked in.
With carbide inserts, why would you run some dry & some with coolant?
Threads on a lathe. Always intense and equally as satisfying!
Love watching threads being cut. It's been a long minute since I've done one manually but I do them cnc all the time. Pipe threads r trickey
For something so simple there is so much that goes in to thread cutting, but once ya get it right it is so fun to watch!
Really cool! Thread cutting is something else
Single point threading is the most satisfying and terrifying lathe operations for me. You either get it right, or, or make scrap.
Love all the insert cutters taking some nice cuts. I live the look of a thread with no relief cuts it just looks so sharp
Watching threads being cut is so satisfying. Just learned how to cut threads in my apprentice program.
Such beautiful work. I love machining work, automotive and stuff that has to do with crafting a metal block of material into something useful for something.
Nice to see a compilation on various thread cutting methods.
The first threads profile looks to fine for that pitch, I wonder if it was a multi start in the begining
Should one use coolant when making threads?
Does anyone higbee(blunt start) their threads? That's one thing I've yet to try. Any videos on how to?
There’s is something so satisfying about watching a nice thread cut 😎
I’ve turned tons of O.D. Threads but never turned an I.D. Thread besides with tapping really cool to watch!
Cutting threads is very satisfying for some reason... and watching them be cut is super satisfying!
Love the video ! Thank you ! Good job .
That's a long bar at the beginning!!! I don't work very often on a lathe, but when I'm thread cutting it's mostly external threads.
How can you measure ID thread accurate?
Something hypnotizing about thread cutting. Always neat to watch. How would one of these inserts work on a small lathe? Southbend 10k specifically. My tool grinding skills suck.
Those internal threads are awesome
So satisfying, i love it!
Always enjoyed the challenge of cutting threads on a manual lathe. Haven’t done it in a while.
A good process and produces great results, Always provide interesting videos about industrial machinery
I am here for the win
What a relief! Great thread cutting video.
Thread cutting is always exciting to do. Great compilation. Lots of diferent materials and cutting conditions.
Nice job. Please post also with grinding internal and external thread.
I remember cutting my first thread on a 1980's cinci millacron. Had a 1/4" single point sticking out 5" and thought that much chatter in the thread looked good! Took some experience before I finally got beautiful threads on every part.
Finally bringing lathes into shop. Subcontracted everything to this point....
Threading is so satisfying to watch!
Very satisfying video, keep them coming
I just recently got introduced to threading on Swiss Style lathes. They are whole different animal if you have a long thread, you have to turn down the first half of the thread diameter, thread it, and then advance the stock and do it again, making sure you don't slip and lose the position of your thread.
I sure could use a top notch head for my Sandvik silent tool bar. I always seem to get the jobs with an internal acme thread, 7” down an 1-1/2” bore
That's pretty sick.
Lovely threading, especially the cnc.
I'm hoping to have the confidence to cut threads that fast one day.
I hate having to use the change gears on my mini lathe! These days I just buy taps and dies generally. Satisfying vid though
Threading without coolant looks better than when it's on.
Last time I did my own threads was on a manual in college and it was fun. Here at Haas machine does it easy.
That's awesome. Watching that was like mediation.
Love the video. Should do one on Tapered threads!
Nice little compilation, makes me want to to an electronic lead screw on my home lathe.
Man thats a deep thread.
Can you make detailed video on thread... about pitch and speed..
Satisfying threads! I love successful thread cutting on a manual engine lathe!
Belive me i will make good use of the fowler dial bore gage set !
Great thread cutting vid!!
Looks amazing... Nice video!
I was taught to do thread cutting like at 3.50 of this video. You can't mess the phasing up this way 😊
That i.d. thread is insane, especially for that length. 😮
Thread cutting is something I have to learn soon. Although on my machine it's going to be a whole lot slower.
really satisfying to watch ☺️
Awesome upclose video 👍
Very informative. Keep up the great content
