    IMHO, one of the top 10 best westerns ever.

      I agree and Brandon de Wilde was in IMHO the best ever SHANE also . I love this iconic scene.
      ua-cam.com/video/Ternps0JFwo/v-deo.html Little Joeys reaction along with the way Shane stares at what used to be the little white rock as if remembering all the people he's gunned down is Epic.

      @lray1948 They did. It was a stellar cast. But without Newman in the lead, we wouldn't still be talking about it.

      DeWilde was married twice and had one son. His first marriage was to writer Susan M. Maw, whom he wed in 1963. The couple had a son, Jesse, before divorcing in 1969. He married Janice Gero in April 1972, three months before his death.
      On July 6, 1972, while in Colorado for a Denver stage production of Butterflies Are Free,] deWilde was killed in a traffic accident in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. He was driving alone, not wearing a seatbelt, in a camper van that left the roadway before striking a guardrail and a parked truck. The van rolled onto its side and he was pinned in the wreckage. He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital, where he died at 7:20 p.m. of multiple injuries that included a broken back, neck and leg. He was 30 years old.

    And the twangy country music just adds to the humor of this drama. LOL

    Hud being a bad influence on Lon, encouraging him to make a pass at a young woman, who is obviously spoken for and a fight starts because of it.

    This movie was filled with great acting. I know a guy that used to be like Hud. He is old now and got his life right with God. People still remember his antics though.

  • @joep8787

    If Hud had been played by Rod Steiger (given the amount of drinking Hud does in this movie, that's what the Huds of the world look like) we would not see Hud as some sort of anti hero rebel and see him for what he was, a sociopathic heel who rejects any opportunity to bond with anyone on a deep level. Paul Newman was great in this movie and should've won the oscar for best actor, but if you ignore his handsome charisma, he was one of the worst movie characters in movies who wasn't a murderer.

      Hud’s good looks were the point. It’s what made him so dangerous. This scene is a perfect embodiment. He comes off as charming and humorous right before he sucker punches the clod at the bar. He goads his nephew into a dangerous situation and then saunters over and easily steps into the line of fire. Every time you start to like him, he reminds you that he is a snake. But you can easily see why he gets away with so much.

    There's a progressive democrat who openly said he can't wait to get high when he gets elected. I immediately thought of this scene and the line, "Little by little, the look of the country changes because of the men we admire.""

    • @thebluefus
      @thebluefus 4 роки тому +8

      I think about social media and the people “famous” in this country. We used to look up to war heroes and men who provided for a family. Now we look up to people who hold up a phone to their face for a picture
