Wow, I got dengue fever on the same island in the 90s! I literally almost died I was solo and was stuck in my bungalow for three days before I got the strength to crawl down the hill to town. Luckily a local auntie knew what I needed, let me stay in her guest bed and nurse me back to life. It was the sickest I’ve ever been in my life glad you’re doing OK man!
I got Dengue on Koh Tao about 20 years ago. It's the sickest I've been in my whole life. I really felt like I might die. They did take excellent care of me at the clinic when I finally managed to get there after lying in my bungalow for 3 days.
Good to see you recovering from dengue. The medical standard is very high in Thailand and not only in the private hospitals. Bangkok is also well known for international healthcare.
I live in Thailand I had Dengue fever 10 years ago. I live alone.noone to take care of me.just lay on my sofa for a week. No food.too sick to go buy anything. Went to doctors after 4 days.i self diagnose myself so I knew what it was. Thought I was gonna die but after a week was ok but took me a month to fully recover.
My next video is My dengue fever episode….. it truely Sucks! 12 days of horrible pain and no food. I only did a tiny local Koh Tao clinic and they set me straight, and fixed me up. Then 4 friends got it and went elsewhere to bigger clinics and got charged 3 times as much. Cost me 10,000 baht total.
So glad you’re okay! I work for Trauma for a hospital in San Francisco. We get tourists all the time and it’s tough being in hospital when you’re not at home. So GLAD it went as well as it did!
As a Thai who experienced Dengue infection, I can say this is no joke. The worst part is that, this Dengue ruin the sense of your tongue so that you feel like you don't want to eat anything. And when you can't eat much, that mean it slow down your recovery process. That's why the nurse kept telling me that I had to force myself to eat some...That really suck.
That’s so bad! Really glad you got over it though. Luckily I didn’t have an issue eating (if anything I was eating too much because the hospital food was really tasty 😂)
I caught dengue fever whilst in northern India… I didn’t have travel insurance and had to ride it out in the guest house I was staying in. I felt like I was dying it was the worst I’ve felt in my life…
Yeah, I live in Bangkok and got Dengue fever about 7 years ago! (I was the 3rd one in the family to get it and this happened within a span of 2 weeks so the first person must have brought it back from somewhere...Dengue is not contagious, but the same mosquito must have bitten all three of us) Never been so sick in my life either. Couldn't eat anything for days and felt so weak. I also felt like this is what it must be like to be close to dying but strangely it didn't feel scary at all. I was hospitalized for a few days and eventually got better😅
Jesus Christ dude, it's Guy from high school, my wife is Thai, been to koh tao loads of times lovely place haha Thailand is amazing pretty unlucky dude glad you are better
Hey man, very long time no see - hope you (and your family) are doing well! Yeah it wasn’t ideal at all but very glad to be better. Can’t wait to go back to Thailand (and Koh Tao in particular) as we loved it!
I got Dengue my second week in Phuket! Spent 4 days, including New Years eve/day in the hospital. I really thought I was going to die! Not much fun that's for sure.
Thanks. We went with Safety Wing for insurance. They fully covered all of the hospital costs in the end, but they made me front all the costs to be reimbursed months later. Given how expensive hospital care can be I’m not sure I’d recommend them, just on this basis.
I was bitten by a mosquito that carried the dengue virus. I didn’t even know I had been bitten until I was sick! So make sure to check if you are in an area with dengue to put plenty of mosquito repellent on. 🦟 Thanks for watching!
Gosh. Just saw this by accident but also saw you were playing a game at one point. Glad to see that even in hospital you were playing games. What was that game it looked interesting?
Hi Heather, hope you’re doing well? Thanks for watching! Yeah we were playing plenty of games to try and pass the time. The ones on the video were Monopoly Deal (like Monopoly but super fast paced and only takes 15 mins per game - we love it), and the game with that tiles is Ok Play - it’s a bit like connect 4 or noughts and crosses but there’s a bit of a twist and you can play up to 4 players.
I had this Dengue shit last year on Samui. i was lucky i got the mild version. started with high fever very suddenly. next morning bed was soaking wet. worst fever dreams and hallizinations ever. i felt kinda ok until i saw myself in the mirror. skin rash on my whole body. after two days all symptoms gone.lucky! few months later i catched samonella tyhpus wich almost killed me
What month was this? I was there in Koh Tao in Feb 2023. I was aware of dengue and mosquitos, and tended to cover up at dusk, but did not give it a lot of thought. (I thought is was worse in the wet season , later in the year).
This was in September. If you wear plenty of mosquito spray and reapply you should be fine! Stupidly I stopped applying repellant because I thought that I’d never been bitten - but it turned out that I’d been getting bitten all along and just not reacting to the bites
Sounds strange but I loved that hospital when I was in it for 5 days, it's amazing how much better health care I got when there compared to hospitals at home (ireland) you look like they took good care of you , very happy for you and hope you enjoy the rest of your time, ❤ 🇹🇭 Haven't been for almost 10 years but swear I'll be back once the kids have grown up
Honestly it doesn’t sound that strange at all. I weirdly have fond memories of the hospital as the care was so amazing! It’s a shame it doesn’t seem to be like that in Europe anymore! You definitely should go back! You could always take your kids with you… we’ve seen a lot more families here now than when we first came in 2014

Oh god, that sounds horrible - glad you recovered!
Haha I just made this exact comment and then scrolled down to see this. Cheers to all the kho Tao dengue survivors lol
Good to see you recovering from dengue. The medical standard is very high in Thailand and not only in the private hospitals.
Bangkok is also well known for international healthcare.
Thank you! That’s good to hear that it’s all hospitals and not just private! Honestly I was so surprised about how great it all was.

So raw so honest. We are homies now. I couldve died in Iceland, smashed my head on ice after slippin. I was filming. Its on my vlog
Glad you like it! Sounds terrifying but glad you’re okay - we’ll check out your vlog for sure!
I travel around the tropics with a mosquito tent. Even in air conditioned rooms, I find them necessary in places like Thailand.

How did you contract Dengue fever ?
I was bitten by a mosquito that carried the dengue virus. I didn’t even know I had been bitten until I was sick! So make sure to check if you are in an area with dengue to put plenty of mosquito repellent on. 🦟

Did you not watch the video 🤷

There is a vaccine shot for Dengue now. Released very recently
Oh wow, thanks for letting me know. I definitely need to look into this before our next travels!
Vaccine isn’t recommended by WHO.
@@kurt755 Oh really? Going to research a bit, thanks
@@kurt755 Like it's recommended against or simply not recommended? Because that's a big difference 😅

You're lucky symptoms were mild. I also had it and it was nasty!
Dengue fever is a killer, you very lucky. You just never know Whats going to happen when travelling, take care.

Cheese toastie from 7/11 🔥🔥 and within 30 seconds of thinking about a cheese toastie from 7/11 then he shits the bed 😂😂
I caught dengue and chikungunya in railay incredibly bad
It can be so serious - I didn’t realise how bad it was until I caught it and started googling!
Food poisoning?
Dengue
Dengue Fever unfortunately! Luckily the hospital cared for me super well, and I’m now recovered and back to enjoying my travels 😀
What's the reason of it? Is it because of an insect bite?
@@happylucky7964 Yes .
i got dangeu and it took me more than year to recover ..it fucked my nervous system
Oh god, I was lucky that I had no long lasting effects! Glad to hear that you’re better now!
Survival stories can be interesting
Glad to hear that you found it interesting (at least some good can come from a terrible few days!)
Do you have insurance and if so who with
We were with safety wing

Bad juju but why do you have your sunglasses on why.
My eyes were super sensitive to sunlight because of the Dengue. It was giving me a really bad headache and blurred vision!
is this staged? dude does not seem sick at all....
He shat the bed though ,and could not speak proper English .I think that its some northern dialect they speak in the UK ,up North .
😂
People much die for this dengue you lucky
This is why you get travel vaccinations and use high deet spray.
