Interesting watch. I wish they'd added another circular bezel which counted the seconds so it felt like the dial was more 'alive' and moving.

I quite like the watch and your theatre-movie intro was excellent! Well done Mr. Spielberg I'd have to get the back off it to get rid of that tiny piece of crud though. I suspect the watch has got a split stem, in which case you can pull it out and use one of those hand pump devices to pressurise the case and pop the back (or the front maybe?), off. I got one of the pumps a year or so ago and used it for the first time a couple of weeks back to get the crystal out of a monocoque cased Accurist. It shoots out with quite a force so make sure you've got something soft to catch it in before it hits the ceiling! Thanks for the video, the watch is out of my price range but I'll show your review to Mrs. C - she can save up for next Christmas🤔

Thank you Mike for a interesting review. I love to see the production processes and techniques as this use to be my 'Bent' in the Aero Industry. Your opening camera footage was very good and you must have spent a long time getting it right. Although the watch is totally stunning in looks, materials and concept, I'm afraid I'm very much a 2 - 3 Hander, Plain Face old timer watch man. Too stuck in my ways? ---- You could be right. Thanks for the video. I particularly appreciated the insight into the manufacturing process and I could tell how much work went into the intro. Great stuff. The watch itself I'm still not keen on. I struggle with the concept of making the form the focus at the cost of function, but like you say it's probably being bought as a conversation piece rather than a means of telling time. I'd really like more detail from Ciga on how they're contributing to stopping waste and helping the environment, because printing blurb on the packet is very different from taking real action. With a failure rate of 40% on dial manufacturing, it'd be good to know it wasn't just contributing to environmental damage. Thanks again for the considered and insightful review.

HI Greg, thats nice of you to offer. I have been on YT for 6 years now and I am not here for the money I can assure you of that. My channel has never taken of in comparison to many other channels that have come after me. The bigger channels all have Patreon and I see it as a bit of a money grab. I do not feel I offer anything worthy of someone paying me for it. UA-cam for me should be free. A big channel with 100,000s of views a month will make decent return from advert revenue. I may consider Patreon in the future if I feel I can justify it.
I am interested to know what has gone on with another channel that you would now want to support me?

One handed watches are not actually a new thing. Some are still made to this day following a similar principle. This watch from a technical point i like, I love the engineering especially. However like I say at the end you would really have to want one as it must be a very narrow market for them but they will no doubt sell. I have already seen other UA-camrs flipping theirs on ebay for very good money.

I didn't see the point of the MK1 and I still don't see the point, yes it's well designed, and they have proved it can be done, but it's simply design over function

    • @MyRetroWatches

Are not most watches design over function. If we went for functionality we would all wear £5 quartz watches. Richard Mille is design over function for price.

@@MyRetroWatches You know I'm a fan, that said, don't neglect this channel at the expense of the other one and reviews of modern watches.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  Рік тому

@@johnpenny2328 I don’t ask anyone to watch every video I make. I’ve been doing this over 5 years now, I’ve never chased the subs , patroon money or any other success that would come from this. Many channels have come after me and have been massively more successful than I.
I make what I like and try to inspire along the way. I’ve made considerably more repair content than reviews. Please bare in mind a restoration video can take 3 weeks or more for me to produce , edit and upload. If I calculated the time to revenue I’d have given this all up long ago.
YT wants content from its creators and if we do not produce we see views fall off a cliff. I started reviewing things to learn more about modern watches but also because it’s more content, a different audience which some may be inspired by other videos to the vintage world or even watch repair.
I think my take on reviews is also different given my knowledge. Take this review for example, no one else has discussed how it’s made, the intricacy of the engineering. Then to show on a scope a piece of debris in the movement and now disappointing it is to see.
Other reviewers have spent 10 minutes on a video all the usual stuff and then flip on eBay for 100s. Nice easy work. I’ve not sold a single Watch I’ve been able to keep, I enjoy them like I do all my others.
I stared my second channel to carry on this work but still had/ have some I’m still contracted / agreed to show on the main channel . As the other channel is so small no one wants to work with me and it’s not even monetised by UA-cam yet so all the effort goes unrewarded monetarily.
The plan is still to separate the two as I appreciate it can be confusing to my loyal subscribers.
As a result the review channel will grow very slowly and this channel viewing figures because of the way YT algorithm works will also suffer as a result.
I’ve gained many subs just from my reviews alone which always encouraged me to take up offers as they came. I have never once contacted a company for a review for this channel as they have all come to me.
As much as it’s still not about the money I do still need to earn some income to afford the projects, the equipment and get something for the hours a week I put in. I have a full time job, a young family yet I put in probably another 15 hours of more a week on videos, answering the considerable emails and messages I get, also running the large Facebook group.
It’s an obsession and a dedication.
So please stick with me and try to understand why the channel has been like this and the decisions I make.
The only other thing I will say is that 90% of my audience are not subscribed either only a very small number actually watch the videos according to the analytics.
