It was many years ago when I first stumbled upon the diagonal pentatonic scale. This was literally a game changer for my guitar playing! I hope this lesson helps and feel free to reach out with any questions.

The 3 note shift is so “doh!” Worthy… as soon as you showed it I was like omg, of course… but I hadn’t ever made that specific connection.. thanks! man..
Yeah man!! Glad you dig it.
Seriously, sometimes simply noticing an “obvious” thing is so helpful. I love the way this ties all of the pentatonic shapes together while also making it more musical.
Totally! My friend!!@@SteveNewbrough-Guitar
So awesome. These are the types of guitar lessons we need on UA-cam. Thanks man!
Love it! Thanks for the kind comment.
Daniel, thanks for the 3 note shift idea. My chops have improved just thinking about it, lol.
Heck yeah! A total game changer.
I’ve been staring at the fretboard trying to memorise it for ages. I’d already picked up the 2-3 pattern earlier, but even though it was right in front of my eyes and should have been obvious, seeing the three fret shift demonstrated was a huge lightbulb moment. I can now instantly find the right five notes anywhere on the fretboard and after a little practice, can now do that in Em and all the other more useful keys too. Thank you! 😊
Oh man! Amazing feedback. Thanks so much for the comment and I hope you'll sign up for my email list and keep in touch. I made all my diagrams available at www.SoloOnGuitar.com Have a good day!
As a complete pentatonic scale noob, this video is really helpful for me!
Haha! 😃😃
This Diagonal Pentatonic Method created by Daniel Seriff is absolutely fantastic …. I acquired the course recently, and I’m absolutely stoked with the awesome content … it’s brilliant!!!
You are the man! Thank you, Phil!
Don’t ever stop teaching!! You literally just helped me solve something I just couldn’t get until now!!!! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much! So glad it was helpful. Please share with anyone you think it might help.
I've been doing the 2/3 pattern for a bit, but that 3 fret shift looks lije that "thing" I've been searching for, thank you!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful. It really opens up the whole neck.
This is GREAT and You're An awesome teacher. You make learning fun. I learned all 5 boxes and the diagonal patterns should work great with them, Love the 3 fret shift.
Thanks so much for the kind comment. They will work together amazingly well!
Thanks Daniel. Great video.
So glad you enjoyed it!
You're awesome man. Thank you for this and keep up the good work!!
Thanks so much!
Great !!!
Thanks for watching!
Good lesson! I especially like the three fret shift. But this should be another way of thinking about pentatonics, I think, not a replacement for the boxes. If you want get a more angular with relatively large jumps between notes, the boxes are way more intuitive just because you can play them horizontally. The same if you want to play the scale in thirds or fourths.
Sure. I feel you. I think the combination is a good idea. The large majority of folks only spend time with the boxes. Hence, this angle.
@@DanielSeriffMusic Absolutely. And the fret shifts are a good way to get from box to another as well.
That guitar body is HUGE.😲
Haha. It’s not small but it’s the angle and the fact it’s sitting on a stand in front of me.
Appreciate the handy tip, I will incorporate this into my arsenal !! In addition, the video was nicely constructed! (What what lens and aperture you are using??? ) Subscribed!
Thanks so much! I'm shooting on Panasonic. These are Gh5s with a 12-35 at 2.8.
very good video
Thanks!
Great lesson and such a great way to think about this!!
Thanks brother!!
OMG
(That means: I have stared at scale diagrams 500 times looking for simplifying patterns and this BLOWS MINE AWAY. Fantastic!)
Amazing!!! So glad it was helpful.
It's a good thing to know, but why claim to have 'discovered' it. It is basic intermediate knowledge and there are dozens of UA-cam videos teaching the same diagonal approach
Cool. Become a teacher. Then you will “discover” what basic intermediate knowledge actually is.
“To "discover" means to find something for the first time or to become aware of something that was previously unknown or unrecognized.” Doesn’t mean I discovered it for other people. I discovered it for myself and have helped thousands of people recognize it. Move along if you don’t like it. Don’t need you here.
