    I built a smoker out if a metal filing cabinet I got from the VA I suppose it's not big enough to do the numbers you need... But it will do a medium hog. After I buy my AK land, I'll start over on just about everything. Not bringing much with me.

    Excellent work. It was cold just watching you much yet knowing you had to work out in that extreme coldness. Super kudos to you. The smoker will be a great piece of equipment to have so that you can store smoked fish. going to Part 2 now. I'm impressed with this build. Thanks Have a Merry Christmas. 👍🏽🤠 12/19/22

    Made my fingers and knees cold watching this fella! Neat project with what I am sure will be years and years of use. What are the siding boards called? Not to be preemptive but I had a couple of thoughts, the 2x4 shelf supports....will you drill some holes through them to avoid "dead spots" at the outer edges and allow smoke to circulate or does it matter? Also, do you have to "season" the smoke house prior to use? Anxious to watch the next segment and learn more, great work btw

      I don’t believe there will be a problem with dead spots the smoke and heat will surround everything inside of the cabinet. I’ve built one other similar smoker and it worked great. I guess time will tell.😊

    Looking real good! What is the material of the extruded metal? I've heard some coatings can be toxic, but I would think that a smoker doesn't get hot enough for it to be a problem. As a fix I heard of people cooking their metal in a burn barrel or campfire to burn off the coatings. Just a thought.

    • @wildwoodoffgridalaska
      @wildwoodoffgridalaska  3 роки тому +1

      The extruded metal is raw steel and rust quite easily but when used in the smoker it gets a good protective layer of grease from the foods cooked in it. I’ve built a smoker similar to this one but last time I welded metal shelves and it worked great. We’ll see how this one performs.😊

    Great work! What happened to your chickens and the coop? I must have missed a video.

      The chicken coop was taken over to Tok to be used there. We didn’t have room at the rental to keep the chickens, so we had to sell them.

    Crunchy snow means it’s COLD!!! Question: being so cold when you build the wood structure with the resin and board moisture being frozen will it effect the Smokehouse during the summer or warmer times?

    • @wildwoodoffgridalaska
      @wildwoodoffgridalaska  Рік тому

      It dries out the first few time you get it up to 200+ degrees. Some gape open up and the wood bows some but I think it just make the smoker better.

      @@wildwoodoffgridalaska Thanks for replying brother. I was just curious. I noticed wood acted differently when it was frozen verses warm. Had a fireplace when I was young and young adult. The wood acted differently. I’d fill the ready/indoor wood bin and when you get to the bottom the wood (being in the house) it acted differently. You could see steam and some water coming from the frozen wood, but not from the wood that had time to warm up to room temperature.

    What wood do you smoke with? Alder? You’re a heck of a handy guy

    • @wildwoodoffgridalaska
      @wildwoodoffgridalaska  3 роки тому +1

      For fish I use alder. We’ve found that we’ll like the flavor of alder best for smoked salmon. I use mesquite for red meat smokes.
