The wildest part about the Iowa roval is it wasn't a totally random oddball pick from iRacing. The real life Grand Am series ran there in 2007 in a race that included Mark Martin driving a Daytona Prototype
I know it's not an official race but the Dallara Dash used the Monza left oval in their rotation of tracks before they switched over to the IR-01 (which killed the series btw).
I did an IMSA race in 2020 or 2021 on the Kansas road course. It was really weird but also really fun. Also Grand Am went there for realsies back in the day 🤣
I remember that Iowa Grand Am race! Iowa had just come out, and was the new kid on the block. Back then, iRacing would often put roval races on new ovals (see: Kansas) to force all the roadies to buy it too (or to miss a week.) Anyway, tl;dr it was pretty fun but kind of a mess. The turn off the backchute into the road course was where most the action happened, along with people smacking the wall coming back onto the oval.
The Kansas Roval put on a heck of a race in 2013 for the Grand-Am (now IMSA) series. The infield was chaotic due to all the cars being trimmed out for the oval section, and we got a battle between one of the sportscar GOAT's in Scott Pruett and a young gun we know today as Jordan Taylor
Production Car Challenge actually went to Tsukuba 1000 Outer for the first time in Season 2 of 2020, Week 9. Was a super fun combo to race and most races split at least once, mostly thanks to it being the first few months into lockdown.
I started to look up if the Rockingham roval short layout had ever been raced officially, but I gave up when I realized how tedious it really is to get this information, lol. Thank you for the time commitment to make this video.
My guess with that track was that it was only included as a future proofing measure for if they ever figured out how to realistically replicate karting on the sim. Both of the Rockingham infield-only layouts were notable in the WKA karting circuit in the 80s and 90s (as well as the full layout for the lay down enduro kart guys.) Larger infield-only layout is perfect for Legend Cars (when Andy owned the track they did a fall/winter series on it) - just not enough pit stalls to even be usable in hosted
Good video man. From what I remember, the Kansas roval was used in a IMSA series in the last couple of years as well, cause I have memories of lapping the Dallara P217 in an official practice session there.
Turns out the gt3 was just a car in the imsa race that ran there. I used the world records tab for all this info so I wrongly assumed it was the gt3 series when it was that imsa race you’re talking about
I did my obligatory Kansas Roval race for IMSA when it visited a year or two ago. It's not horrible but the banking transitions leave something to be desired.
Just wanted to say, I don't play iRacing, or really any racing sims/games bar at a super casual level, but all of the stuff you present is incredibly interesting merely from a gaming perspective, and enjoy your presentation too!
NGL, Atlanta Road in PCC a few years ago was actually amazing. Technical track, but provided a Charlotte-esque draft ending. Was actually very fun. Edit: Tsukuba 1000 Outer was actually a me idea, and it was an absolute disaster 😂
The reason to why Oran park north a is such a tight curcuit is because that’s the karting layout, there where only three actual official layouts at Oran park being the full layout, north and south layouts to, I never got to go but my dad was always a oficail, but ye, that’s also why it’s so tight there compared to the rest of the curcuit
6:50 that time i wasn't racing in iracing yet so i hope we will get races at Monza oval once just bcs i watched a couple of videos and it was pretty fun maybe it will be interesting with trucks, streetstocks or arca
I've done a couple of these! I raced the Atlanta Road course in the SLPCC S4 2020, it was actually more fun than I expected, but it definitely feels like a quickly hashed together road course without a lot of character. Incidentally that exposed bit of barrier at 3:27 is hilariously dangerous because that straight is a possible overtaking opportunity if you've got a good run out of the previous corner, and for getting past slower classes. I remember seeing someone go a bit too far left and get completely annihilated by it. I also did Gateway Road in USF2000 S4 2022, that was honestly one of my favourite tracks that season, it's really well suited to that car!
About the gateway road, there’s now a third configuration IRL that’s 2 miles long. It uses more of the back straight and turn 1/2 of the oval. To my knowledge no sim has it (even as a mod), but it would be nice to practice for track days there. The layout that’s used on iRacing is also used by the Trans Am series.
1:37 In the first season of Triple Bypass Racing King of the Hill, I set the ARCA car up on the Kansas Roval the day before we ran the Kansas race in the same car. It looked fun on paper - Normal Oval, Brake, Relatively straightforward Chicane, then a drag race down to the end, turn around, Drag race back the way you came, another Chicane, and then back out onto the Oval. Sounds FUNNNN. It is not. We did it again in Season 2 with the Legacy GT3 cars, and that was a LOT more fun than the ARCA was. 2:55 Ran this in King of the Hill, too. It's GREAT fun in the Cadillac CTS-V, and probably would be good in the Aussie Supercars, as well. You really have to get over to the left on the straight section after the harpin. There's really excellent air to be caught there! 4:24 Man, we are 3 for 3 here! We ran this in King of the Hill in the Formula Ford THIS SEASON and it's a friggin' HOOT! I LOVE this configuration in a low power open wheeler... 7:00 Four for five, Justin! Monza Left Oval is on the schedule for THIS season of King of the Hill with Triple Bypass - but not in a NASCAR. Oh no... TOO SLOW. We're going with an Indy Car or the Riley Mk XX Daytona Prototype!
I drove the Kansas roaval. Weirdest I've ever driven and absolute carnage in the infield. This was during the IMSA season back in the last year of GTE. LMP2 guys just tossing GTE cars of the track, GT3 cars believing they were GTE cars...
I did an oddball week in my league back in 2014, where we ran the NASCAR trucks at: 1. Texas Road Combined 2. Auto Club Interior Course 3. Pocono North Course Honestly, we had a lot of fun and I would like to do them again! I don't think I've ever seen any of those layouts on an official schedule!
Another Roval having been raced on only once is the Auto Club - Competition Layout. In 23S2 W4 the GT Challenge with the GT1s and GT2 drove it and it was very fun to drive. It isn't even a bad Roval in my opinion
Haha you're a legend! I feel like the ARCA car is maybe the only car that makes sense racing at Motegi West. It's too boring for a normal road car. Side note, it would be really cool if iRacing could make certain configurations free. Or even make tracks free for a week so that people don't have to buy a track for a one off week. More often than not people just don't race on those weeks.
I raced in the prod cars at tsukuba Oval. I did 4 or 5 races that week, and it was probably the most fun I've had in iracing. They should bring it back.
Legacy Kentucky Legends is great! With 1/4-mile bullrings being nearly absent from iRacing it was very much appreciated when they added AI for that course. The turns are much wider than Charlotte legends so it almost feels like a real track, and you can fit 28 opponents so I can use my full roster of Tri-track modifieds :D
Road Atlanta Club configuration is a wild one. Don't have a sub atm so can't check but I have a lap of it in the skippy from 2012s3 (/watch?v=f8LEmYA_d2c) when iRacing pretty much used RNG for combos and every series had wacky tracks that season, and I can't remember a time it was used otherwise in an official series. The short config, sure, but the club's T2-T5 and the U-Turn after the chicane were great. Also I think some of those rovals might have been run in the first pro series in 2009 using the dp.
has the Rockingham Road course been ran? i cant imagine much having gone there. its fun how i already know the layout of most of the rovals just from messing around in league practice sessions. trying to drift the arca car at Iowa's carpark section is quite fun, for example
Last year we ran Season 11 of the F3A (Australia) iracing league (the best league in the world btw). The season was named “The American Tour” and as part of the 10 race calendar, we raced both well know US road courses and the left field roval tracks. Kansas Road, Legacy Texas combined, Autoclub competition course, WWTR road and Daytona were all included. Safe to say the Dallara F3 wasn’t built for the harsh banking transitions 😂 Streams of these races are on UA-cam btw
I might be wrong but I thought Kansas was in IMSA aswell. At least I remember driving this one week and at no point have I raced GT3. I believe I drove it in a P2 so probably IMSA sometime in ~2021
Fun fact about the Iowa roval (that may or may have not been fixed) You can just run the oval layout and it'll still count the lap. And another fun fact: PCC ran the Atlanta road course layout, and then the week after they ran the Atlanta Oval 😂
PCC is often good about that. They throw in a few paid tracks into the season, but then the often run one of them twice. Like this season they are running Silverton twice. And they ran Monza twice last season. Although wish IRacing would let them run an oval again lol.
Awesome video, loved the combination of odd tracks and cars like the Daytona Prototype on Iowa Road. Couldve sworn the Monza oval was used more offically like for NASCAR Cup/ 87s and Indycar but those would be cursed aswell. Great video dude, youre the best Arca Farmer ever!
I wonder if iRacing will schedule NASCAR at the oval at Twin Ring Motegi? They did that IRL for an exhibition race iirc. Also how often is the Milwaukee Mile raced on for any league?
We raced twin ring 3 times over the past couple years in arca. It’s used in us open wheel too I think. I wanna get it on the schedule for B fixed off-season. Milwaukee is raced periodically for arca and whenever trucks go there irl
It’s possible, one issue is a lot of these tracks are not widely owned so I’d have have to be carefully to pick ones that my community mostly has because I don’t want people to spend money on a track for a meme race
I actually got to race at the infield legends oval last year. And the legacy Kentucky legends oval. There were rarely any official races. Who actually votes for this stuff to be raced?
The moment I heard Twin Ring, I perked up. And knowing that Twin Ring Motegi is in this game I have one burning question that needs answered. 1: Is the Twin Ring Motegi Super Speedway in iRacing? 2: If it is, is there a steady number of NASCAR and Indycar races run on the Speedway made famous by the Thunder In The East NASCAR tour and Gran Turismo?
Jeez, dissing on some of the best Rovals. American Sim Racing League ran our GT4 series at the Atlanta Road and Iowa Road last season, and both are really fun tracks. Iowa produced some of the best racing of the year, including a first time winner! This season we're taking our GT3/GT4 multi-class series to the Kansas Roval. I ran quite a few practice laps, and once you find the rhythm, it's a fun track, and I expect it to produce some great racing! IIRC it was either Kansas or another almost oval for a roval that got a real Grand Am driver and/or team in hot water with the series for saying how godawful the track was. so, iR is just being insanely accurate with how bad the Kansas one is. Need to go find the exact quote, it was apparently GA not liking the fact they got called out on track choices and awful track choices. I'm 99.9% sure it was in fact, Kansas.are
I've done league races on a few of these. Mostly in the Reddit iRacing League and the Dinner With Racers Thursday Night Blunder series, both of which tend to run more unusual combos. Legends cars at that weird Oran Park layout were actually super fun when RIL did that combo a while back. TCR at Kansas Road in the DWR series was awful but I did get to punt Andy Lally, so I'd call it even.
The wildest part about the Iowa roval is it wasn't a totally random oddball pick from iRacing. The real life Grand Am series ran there in 2007 in a race that included Mark Martin driving a Daytona Prototype

Need to go find the exact quote, it was apparently GA not liking the fact they got called out on track choices and awful track choices. I'm 99.9% sure it was in fact, Kansas.are
Lots of interesting courses here. Definitely can see why they weren't run.
atlanta:can i copy your homework

The Kansas Roval, otherwise known as "The Anatomy Lesson"
Kentucky legends oval is fun for me because I got a win there lol
Weirdly enough, Iowa Road Course was run in the real life Grand-AM series ua-cam.com/video/mW7S4lkjDfw/v-deo.html, Mark Martin even raced.
Dang I had no idea!
Trans-am is coming to WWT this weekend!
Epic
As an Oval guy I love the Irwindale Inner
I have run it in Street Stocks and Late Models
a Lot of Fun
I've done way too many laps there... in WreckFest 😅
There is alot of legends ovals that the legends dont race on it
It would be fun to create a championship only for bad rovals😂😂😂
imsa used the kansa roval in 2021
