From what I hear no. Not enough at least for the price of some. This is what I originally thought too. I think quality, lifespan, and shielding are more important.
Definitely heard a difference with my makeshift audio setup- Dell Precision 7540>OL DAC>JDS Objective O2>Edifier H850 with Thinksound On2 cable. The Mogamis sound quite different from the others, but the difference is less obvious between the Gold and Platinum series
Awesome. Thanks for sharing that. Actually, what I've found is that the difference between cable length is something super easily audible. The difference between good cables of different brands of the same length is minuscule. I personally use Mogami Platinum for the extended high end, which in my opinion just as pure as it can be. This is something I can easily tame down at a later stage, but gives a good source to work with. This is especially important if you reamp the signal, and it has to pass all those transformations which lead to some sort of losses.
Listening with high-end headphones using Adobe Audition and I'm unable to detect even the slightest difference between the cables. Looked at the spectral frequency display for each and compared them side by side and they all look virtually identical. I recognize that I'm only describing my own experience here. Nothing really scientific. Just my own observations. I guess what I'm saying is, I'll take a couple of whatever's cheapest, thanks. Great job putting this together!
Ahh hell, they all sounded the same. But Mogami Platinum Cable all the way. Even though I had a shit 12ft straight to right angle Cable from Mogami Platinum. They owe me $124.99! 😳
People, you realize sound isn't the only thing to consider when buying a cable right? Of course they're not going to sound vastly different. Invest in good cables so you don't have to worry about noise or them breaking during a gig after your bassist spills beer on it and your drummer places his kick drum over it. Also, if you buy something decent like a Mogami Gold or Platinum you have a lifetime warranty. So sure, they're a bit pricey but they'll last forever and you get peace of mind. Or, just buy the guitar center bargain bin cables if you want.
Thanks for the shootout. Nice video. I did a similar exercise a few years ago with plethora of cables. The ones I kept and now make bulk cables were: Mogami Gold Mogami Platinum Sommer Spirit LLX Sommer Spirit XXL Besttronics BTPA CA466 (Chicago based) My favorite among these are Sommer Spirit XXL and BTPA CA466. If you do come across them please do give them a try.
Best review ever. I'm exactly in the spot where I removed my tone knob and the difference is second best after getting a Mogami (platinum) cable. I can say both make more of a diff than switching between models of quality pickups...e.g.: JB or Tone Zone or Pegasus ...etc. How about comparing speaker cables?
The D'addario custom has more compressed especially when you compare the Dist Passive Pu riff on the low e string part, you can tell the Mogami gold actually has a more composed/pronounced tone. In the clean section, the Mogami Platinum shows more clarity even compared to the Gold one. You can hear 10khz coming out nicely and this is important because it's so much easier to dampen brightness than having to create an artificial eq. The Stage cable again sounds compressed. Between Livewire/Stage/Pro are all dead in terms of dynamics. The Mogami Platinum is not just about top end by the way, it's about the idea that you get the best clarity in your tone as possible. It shouldn't be referred as 'bright sounding cable'. I personally only use Mogami Platinums (3ft, 6ft and 20ft) and we do pay premiums here in Australia but I can tell you that there's no quality spared.
Excellent video.. and cables definitely make a difference, impedance variations caused by thickness and length variations, brighter punchier tone thick 18, 16, Guage cable's like fender pro or deluxe series. Darker softer and more pronounced lower mids longer and thinner 22 Guage 18 ft, 20, etc.. think of coil winding's on guitar pickups and how tone is affected by those variables Etc..
Hello men, great comparison. Could you please tell me if you used simulations of the vst amplifier or on the contrary you used real amplifier miked and the model of vst or amp used. Riffs and phrases very well chosen for a comparison of cables. Thanks
hi sir.. mogami cable are really great cable? I’ve been played with my planet waves (american stage) for a year and its great. How if they do comparison, which better?
How about patch cables? I'm using mogami 2319, but after seeing Ted Nugent's and ZZ Top rig rundowns, switched to a thicker cheap Cordial cable and yes...fattness is back. I wah hating on my pedals wrongly. Was the thin cable eating low end.
Use Mogami Platinum patch cables. They don't make Mogami Overdrive patch cables and I don't think they ever will/need to. The Platinum patch cables are perfect, the best of the best. Zero hum (even turning up your amp, which can be a little scary haha), no background noise, full girthy sound, an absolute must-have. Wish I learned this ages ago..
Hernán Alcérreca :) Pretty simple it’s just an MIM body and the Warmoth baritone conversion neck. It’s a nice neck the only thing that sucks about it is you have to take the neck off the body anytime you want to adjust the truss rod :( Hopefully they change that at some point.
Very well done. I use the Mogami Gold. The Platinum is interesting. I have a Splawn Quick Rod. I love the amp but the treble control isn't quite voiced where I would like it to be. Instead of a bunch of different methods, I have been trying to get there with cables. The M Gold has got me about there. But.....lol....hearing the Platinum cable has me wanting to try it.
@@JoeQuick Yep. I don't know how usable very extended high frequencies may be. I re-did my acoustic rig (Ashley mixer into QSC K12) with all Mogami cables everywhere. Vocals got WAY better. But the rig lost its guts so -to-speak. I kept all the same for the rack except the cables to the speakers. I put back the old ones and got my punch and thud back. The golds were too airy and transparent.
Would be interesting to use the different cables for re-amping to see if the capacitance affects tone (too much potential variation in performance when hearing differences so subtle) Assuming the impedance of the cables isn't the difference we're hearing loading the passive pickups differently (not on the LTD I'm assuming, where there seems to be less of a difference?)
I did this test a few years ago with a reamped DI and found the differences to basically be indistinguishable. People asked me to do a follow up with actual playing to see the results in an actual real world application. I expected there would again basically be 0 difference, but I was wrong. I made sure when doing the comps that each performance was put together as close as humanly possible and found the results to line up with how the cables sounded in real time use. The one thing that won't come across from a listener perspective is the improved dynamic response of the Mogami cables. That was the most surprising find for me.
Joe Quick thanks for the reply - apparently it’s less about capacitance and more about impedance and loading (which explains the negligible difference with the active pickups, I wrote my comment before you mentioned that in the video!)
Great review IMO. I've tried all of these. Always seeking that tone. I personally like the Planet waves/D'Addario custom. I am one of those tube amp guys that LOVE THE WARMTH...LOL Love it. But this cable really cleaned things up and the shielding was amazing. Took some of the 60 cycle hum out of my Strats at bar gigs. Then I turned my back at a jam session and grew legs.
Great Video thanks , Question for you , With all your experience do you know of a Guitar cable that Does Not TANGLE easily,,?? going crazy with my 10 ' very expensive cable .. thanks ..

Alright, best cable comparison video ever made. Thank you for this
Thanks!
Great job! I didn't know about the nice response of the Mogami gold. Will have to pick one up to try out now.
MaG Ya check it out. I’m curious to see how much it translates to other people’s setups.

That was some badass guitar playing

I can assure you the mogami cables let your pickup's shine through, i was using planet waves which sort of held back the output on the pickup's.

Vasily Sizov I could definitely see it being helpful for reamp situations. I’d agree it’s the widest and most pure response.
I just switched to mogami from livewire essential. there is such a difference.
Which good?
I think it is all in your head, You can literally listen to the video without looking at it and not notice any difference at all.
Why not the live wire golds?
@@latengocomoburrodudes also using different guitars… shoulda used just one
I've always used Mogami, because it's bomb proof. There may be a difference in long runs, but that's what buffers are for. I can't tell a difference.
Wow man you would have pissed off many boomers with that opening riff. Stellar review btw
😂😂
Stupid comment.
Mogami gold rocks. But I think the real winner here is the Countryman DI!

The real differences reside in reliability/ruggedness. That's what these comparison videos don't show.

Dude! I absolutely love your tone.
But also, your chord voicing are pretty bad ass. Really digging the riffs. Do you have any tunes up on the UA-cams?
What is wrong with those chords lmao 😂
Best review. I just Happen to have the babyface Pro also. Going to download the files and have a proper listen in my DAW.
