Personally I think the song itself is supposed to sound a bit chaotic and overwhelming to enhance the theme of the song. For example the build up essentially leading to the scream... in a way you almost want to scream too bc there's just so much going on. Idk that's just how I see it

This song is about anxiety, stress and depression.. fully understand why you guys do not like the vibes...
Stray kids songs are about life.. this song is one of their song what a call it very “human”.. when you are down and listen to it, it seem like someone (i.e Stray Kids) understand and accompanied you through it..
I think this is a charm of Stray Kids.. their experiment through beats and sounds but still the lyrics are so deep.. they do not want to be categorized in one type of music... its their own genre.. 😁😁😁😁
I think off air you should check out their other genre like “Grow Up”, “I am You”, “Get Cool”, “Ackward Silence”, “TA”, “Levanter”, “Slump”, “Victory Song”.. that really show they diversity in music 😁

This was actually one of their most bashed on songs by k-pop fans lol. Btw the genre isn't house, it's actually psychedelic trance! It's also assumed this song is meant to be chaotic in reflection of the lyrics. 👍 (I should add, this song was widely hated at first but apparently grew on a lot of people so I think you might like it eventually. At least that's testified by the whole stadium at kcon screaming the loudest during this song when supposedly nobody liked it LOL.)

@@shakthikathevarajah7890 Nice! Personally I think this song isn't bad, just misunderstood. It's not a failed attempt at an edgy hit song to top the charts, it's an intentional expression of art. (The performance video is beautiful imo.) Even Stray Kids themselves knew it wasn't going to go suit many people's tastes, but it was never meant to. Definitely more of a song to experience with a story line and particular message rather than a groovy song to dance to! 😊

Actually "Side effects" is a psytrance (psychedelic trance) music and apparently they are the FIRST ever kpop group to use that genre.
The song might be loud and different, but the song "side effects" actually affects your brain to calm down the nerves. They used trance music, which it calms down the limbic brain and brings down stress. When you thought the song might give you headache, they actually calm you down.
The video is quite different because it's part of their storyline. But the lyrics is about having regrets and anxiety that comes as a consequence after making a decision. The listener might feel uncomfortable while listening to the song. But that's the purpose of it, they're trying to express it how it feels like. It gives them discomfort feeling when doubting their choices, never fully confident in their own decision for the fear of failure and inability to overcome the challenges at hand.
They're are really geniuses for using that genre. Now a lot of groups had been using it too, like Dreamcatcher and Ateez. Please react more to stray kids!

I think what a lot of people miss with this song is its meant to be a bit "chaotic" in a sense. which is why it goes from calm to very hyped up. They're describing the troubles and anxieties they go through in their own minds. And how wreckless they can be from one minute to another. so that is the POINT of the beat switch ups. But its not a song for everyone. Its actually their most hated song by people who seem to think its just "noise".

The song is literally called side effects... with a title like this i think they pretty much nailed the music. And as a person who deals with bad depression and social anxiety .. this instrumental pretty much explains my emotion when i am in a pretty dark part with my thoughts

Stray kids are real musicians, they express themselves through their art. This song was not made for the purpose of a hit song. Stray kids music are all meaningful, they won't make music just for the people to dance to in a club. Stray kids don't make songs to please other people. This was to show how it feels like to have mental illness. If you don't relate with the structure of the music then good for you, but this song represents the feelings for people who experience such problems. Stray kids create the music that they like and there is no lie in their music. They've said it themselves, they don't care if you don't like their output because people have different preferences in music and they'll keep sticking to create the music they love to make.

The whole point of 'Side Effects' is creating chaos 'cause that's what the song is about. You can also hear a voice saying "common side effects include: nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, visual problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, weight loss" in the background. They received a lot of hate because of this song but people don't understand the purpose of Stray Kids. They don't make music according to people's tastes and that's the special thing about them. Stray Kids loves experimenting with sounds and their songs always have a deep meaning to it.

That's the whole point of the song
This song is produced like this with this video and particular effects because it almost wants you to feel the Side Effects
All those flashing lights are supposed to represent what you feel when your head hurts (the chorus lyrics)
And the genre is called "psytrance" which is a type of Edm music (and Stray Kids are the first idols who used this genre in kpop, then followed by Dreamcatcher with their songs "Silent Night" and "Scream")

I think this song is just filled with text painting like the instrumental itself is quite overwhelming and leaves a whiplash feeling which kind of coincides with "side effects" so I believe that the lack of seamless transition between the genres reflects that.

The first song I heard from them I did not like, My Pace, it took the second song I heard, Hellevator, to get me into Stray Kids. Interestingly though, Hellevator was also a genre I never liked or listened to before, but there was something about that song that just resonated with me. Now, after being a Stay for a couple of years I have grown to like and appreciate every single song by them. For me there's not one song that I do not like, of course, some I like more than others but, I like literally all their music, from their pre-debut Mixtape to their Japanese releases and OSTs. Thanks to them, I have learned to like music genres I never liked before. They have been a blessing to me bc I’ve grown so much musically.
I've mentioned before, it is okay to not like every song because music and taste are subjective, so it's absolutely fine to express that. The important thing is that you guys know, appreciate, and respect their music and what they stand for, that means everything to Stays and Stray Kids.
There's soo much more you guys need to see from them. So you guys can look forward to much much more fire and meaningful music from Stray Kids. Thank you for continuing to react to them!

The point of Side Effects is not to create a popular song, it's not even to make a song that people will play over and over. Stray Kids don't make music that caters to a more popular sound, they make what they want and have very much a "if you don't like it I don't care" attitude. The psytrance genre being chosen for this and the overall nature of the song were meant to reflex experiencing things like anxiety and depression, it's meant to reflect that uncomfortableness

*What I personally get from the MV and lyrics, they were leaving the city entering maze (yellow wood) feeling the side effects I think in my opinion they’re talking about the side effects of being kpop artist with faded voice in the background names the side effects but it’s hard to hear it over the music and also the split scene where they’re shown on the bus sleeping & walking on a dark road.* I think thats them dreaming which shows they never got on the bus ... first they’re in the city in MIROH MV and now it’s a combination concept of Hellevator & District 9. I’m sure i’m not the only one who noticed the bus, ‘I Am You’ fashion, elevator behind them, city in the sky and the key to the elevator at the end. *SIDE EFFECTS THAT FANS GET: COMPLETE SHOCK & CONFUSION* 😵😶 My biases are Bang Chan, Felix, Changbin, Lee Know and I.N but I love & support the whole group. #SideEffects #StrayKids

Yeah, technically, the genre is psych-trance, it's popular in the DJ circuit, actually it's pretty experimental for a K-Pop group to have made a song like that a title track. I guess it's more of a performance piece and it was made with the story and choreography in mind. It's totally OK to think that it's not a song which can be standing out on its own. This song is very conceptual from the music production to there video and lyrics. It isn't for everyone. Neat thing in the video is they do a lot of ripples... It looks like a side effect from the first person who moves. This song is supposed to make you feel at odds with yourself. I actually don't think the song would send the message properly if it was done differently. It's like the song you listen to when you need to feel chaotic so you can calm down. This song is relatable in all ways to me for my bipolar.. But can be applied to anything. It's okay to not dig a song though. I just felt the need to say I'm pretty sure it's on purpose. When you take medicine the side effect can definitely be a disconnect. P.s. living the reactions. Also 3racha doesn't just write the lyrics they also produce. 3 members of this group.

I really like the honesty about not being a huge fan of this song. A lot of reactors seem to act over the top and love every single thing they come across and that makes it feel kind of fake, which I don't like. That being said, I personally love Side Effects. I'm autistic and the contrast between the intense parts with the chance to come down from it for a bit, is really a great sensory experience for me.
Great video, keep up the good work.

I really appreciate your reaction. I must confess I kind of "like" when some reactor says, respectfully as you guys did, that they didn't really like a song, even if that song is among my favorites. It shows the truthfulness of your reaction, shows that you're not here just for the likes. I appreciate that.
This song was actually the one that got me into Stray Kids, it was so different from what I was used to listen to in kpop, more aggressive. But yeah, it is pretty "chaotic" in a way, more experimental and with too many sounds, so I get why it isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Anyway, keep up the great work, guys! Love the channel and the videos! 🤗

Stray Kids has a storyline. A stray kids universe. The music videos are supposed to be seen in a chronological order. It does make a bigger sense that way.

i get what u saying but the instrumental is the representation of their internal fight. The pills are making a mess inside their minds and sometimes they find peace and quietness (the smoothest part of the song) and u can notoce if you connect the lyrics (talks about changes that they don't understand) and the mv (they're calm and suddenly they're fighting out of nowhere) and also felix is listing the side effects when the beat drops so it's a song about mental health/illness

You could beat everyone but Bang Chan in a race. Dude runs like his damn life depends on it. If you watch the running group scenes in the MVs he always starts in the back and immediately makes it to the front lmfao

This song is inspired by the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. (google it)
It’s about how carving your own way in the world instead of following along with everyone else is harder than it seems, and that there are consequences- side effects to our decisions. It’s hard to follow your dreams, especially if you want to do something no one has done before. Straykids want to be considered their own genre, and I believe they are accomplishing that dream. You guys have 10 albums to listen to, to understand them fully.
Yes, what you said about feeling that way and thinking if they keep going I will to. That was what Chris was after. This song is deep and the musicality is amazing.
Oh, you will play it...it creeps up on you. 😂
I loved it straight away, and others slowly come to appreciate what a good song it is.
You should watch the performance video for full choreo.
The brotherhood shown at the end Still makes me smile.
    💙🦋💙
P.S I think you will like Chronosaurus , M.I.A, TMT and Mixtapes #1-4

well it's the song message I mean it's in the lyrics ( wait I hear weird noise and my vision blur) something like that it's actually about emotion that sometimes you wondering to yourself after you get mad that why do you get angry in the first place why you get mad for little things that you feel you will win over the fight it's like what you feel when you're mad it just blur your vision and do something you really don't want to

definitely one of those songs you gotta listen to a few times before forming a true opinion haha, unless you get very overwhelmed the first time. i personally didn't like this song when i first heard it but after a couple more times it grew onto me.

"Everything is being changed, from 1 to 10 (more and more)"
The song is titled Side Effects. My interpretation is it's all about feeling disjointed in one form or another and the song captures and reflects that feeling perfectly. That's one reason why i love it, but also why i can understand it's not for everybody. To each their own in this beautiful wide world! 👍😄

This song is quite controversial even among Stays...personally I love the song but I understand everyone has their own taste. I appreciate honest reactors who don’t automatically say they love every single song of every single group.
