been my personal anthem since 1993. Along with Thrree6Mafia, about 30 years ahead of its time. Not done for the money, but for the realness. One of the hardest joints in world history.
SSUUUUCCCHHHH a bomb as fuck cut!!!!!!!OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a lucky bitch and was on this vinyl when it came out and was DAMN sure to catch them on the Smokin Grooves 96 tour. This album is SO fucking goddamned under-known. Big Up BNH !! Funk No 'Gon Die!!!!!!!!
Live instrumentation seventies blaxploitation style by some British cats called the brand new heavies and the east coast emcee and gangsta rap lyrical genius Kool G rap- this shit was decades ahead of its time. Kind of reminds me of the way badbad not good and ghostface killah did their thing a couple years back. Hiphop in '92, though was still not as mainstream. People were still scared by ice cube's 'the predator', public enemy and N.W.A. now a days, you can yawn and a jam like this would be down and put on on Spotify and be learned by the millions- but the year of this release, the media and marketing and musical segregation and snobbery has to be taken into consideration. Dope AF though. An underground classic.
A few months later The Roots released their commercial debut Organix, which featured live instrumentation, another hidden gem in the annals of forgotten Hip Hop.
Brand New Heavies actually sold a lot of records in the UK in the 90's. They weren't really 'underground', they were funk pop. I think this live hip hop album kind of slipped through the cracks a little though, it wasn't their usual sound, even though it had the likes of Gang Starr, Main Source, Pharcyde and G Rap on.

A punk try to drop me. I left his body sloppy, so they can't perform an autopsy.
Is this the CDQ version? Sick track but the EQ sounds like it's lacking.
I’m gonna sample this and bring back real rap. 🫡
