I have an all black afo 2 with the clip "tip down" I've been carrying for 16 years. Best tool I ever had. It's opened more boxes, mail, bags of concrete, thinset, cut twine, straps, you name it. I have abused the shit out of this knife and it continues to give. Today I finally took it apart to inspect the spring that broke about 4 years ago that works the AFO feature. I've just been slinging it open and closed for whatevers. The spring is cheap. Like $3. I cleaned the entire inside of the knife. Careful not to lose any of the tiny springs or screws that keep it together.
I've used it as a hammer, to pry with, a screwdriver you name it pretty much. It never fails. Always does exactly what I ask it to. At 16 years I ain't never parting with this knife.
I currently use it at work to carve off wheel weights and knock out center caps. Yes it's big and clunky and even when it was new it had that slight wiggle to the top you showed but the blade still hasnt broken. Tip either. A very solid knife. I think thats why I've had it so long. Gerber/old timers/case etc are nice but my hand can automatically feel how cheaply theyre made. The heft of the Benchmade as well as what it's endured has created some hard shoes to fill should i ever finally lose it.

I haven't checked recently but a year ago New Graham Knives had one of the rare original sterile versions of this knife for sale but you had to be an active member of the military to purchase it and had to provide proof.

      They’re not rare at all...

Only one store in the US had one. I am talking about one that is sterile with no markings of any kind. Tell me where you think you can get one.

I have the same knife but it doesn’t have the glass breaker, everything else checks out it’s solid, is this fake or real

I think this is my most carried knife at this point. I hated it when I first got it. I am actually carrying it again today. It has been kicking knives I would consider better normally out of pocket.

It does seem rather large and clunky at first

I own the original version of this knife which had no markings on the blade or anywhere else on the knife. This was done in case a soldier was captured or found dead that there would be nothing linking him to the United States. AFO stands for armed forces only. Cutlerylover has a excellent video on the sterile version here: ua-cam.com/video/RZpX8r_Fjnc/v-deo.html

The button sticking up above the scale is a deal killer for me. Had a Kershaw fire in my pocket, the button is high on at least some of their models.

The button will not fire if it is hit by something. It had to be pushed all the way deeper than the black aluminum scales. I carry mine all the time without the safety on and have bumped it against things and has never deployed in my pocket.

It has a safety switch that stops it from deploying...
