Great video and I totally agree. Problem is though, it's so hard to get any concerted effort to push. People just stay behind even if you lead the charge and they just sit back behind cover while you fight. Not just on this map but so many others as well. Hopefully enough people watch your videos and learn.
You got it sooo right, man. And that is exactly why LemmingRush is completely wrong with his opinion about Himmelsdorf hill. Hill did win me the games more than enough and having +30k battles I think I've seen sufficient amount of them. It is not the fact, that hill is so much superior - it gives advantage of hight, and it provides fast access to both bases (because of speed you can roll down towards them), but it narrows your line of fire, as LemmingRush pointed out. However - the most important fact is simple: usually people going west are TDs and passive players who want to camp it out shooting from distance (empty railways). Aggressive players go to hill most of the time. I don't know why - maybe because they know they will get their piece of fight there ? Whatever the reason is, the fact remains just as you said - getting people on the west line to follow you in attack is often close to impossible. Usually they are simply not this kind of people or not this can of tanks, or both. So you can make fancy video about rushing west side on Himmelsdorf, but reality usually disqualifies this strategy. PS. Guys who won hill lost the game because they concentrated on shooting tanks on D line. They didn't pay attention to what happened on the railways tracks untill it was too late. If these hill snipers helped rushing down E75 and VK4502 defending northern base and killed them faster, they would cap the base sooner than LemingRush's team.
The only time I go hill in a light is from the south(?) spawn in the AMX ELC with the 90mm gun. I can get around to the side of the castle for a single shot on the red tanks cresting their side. Usually I can't get two shots unless they're really oblivious because the reload is too long. So I take my free ~245 dmg on the lead enemy tank, then turn and run back down the way I came up and head over towards the rails. The AMX ELC with the 90mm has enough speed and punch to make that move viable and worthwhile. I could probably get there in a Chaffee but wouldn't do enough dmg to make it worthwhile.
I've found this map to be cyclical. It goes through periods where the hill is the best place to go and then the tracks become the winning strat. It goes back and forth over time between these two strats. This video will contribute to people going tracks more now and soon enough the hill will become the winning strat again (summer or fall most likely).
Thanks for this vid! Your recent videos have been super helpful in making me a better player. You're the most helpful World of Tanks youtuber out there. Your vids actually help people become better. Keep up the work!
OMG, Thank you! I am no unicum, but I have long since realized that some of the map memes are not written in stone. I love pushing tracks on Himmelsdorf, for all the reasons you talk about. When I get a couple people willing to push with me, it is super-effective. The trick, of course, is getting people to come along. Some people seem to get very caught up in in-the-box thinking and can't adjust, or can't recognize when situations just don't fit with what the "typical" situation.
Lately I've kinda ended up finding this out through trial and error, and have stopped going hill all together. It's nice to see some better reasoning and deeper explanation of why though than just my own "this isn't working what happens if I try this" way that I figured it out.
I'm happy to see this video because I rarely play hill on this map. I think you can win tracks much faster than hill-and you just said the exact same thing so I feel good now! I should add-I think a track push is better from the north base on this map.
Its not that hill doesn't win games its more like any flank can win a game. You can have matches where you pushing the hill will be the deciding factor and you can have matches where its not. Every game is about map/tank awareness, wot meta isn't black and white.
I completely agree with you. I stopped going to the hill after witnessing this fact. I now play the mid and tracks on this map as it is much better to control the game from there. Can you make a video about the BEACH on Overload which I feel is completely useless but all the time I find half of my team over there. But I am not sure if I am correct or wrong. Thanks!
I sometimes go beach only when no one goes there to stall the enemies so we can flank and every time I do that we win it works really well especially in a super heavy
The reason people go hill on this map is the limited zone of fire that they can expect coming AT them (i.e. so long as they stick to the map edge they don't have to worry about flanking shots). Railway and Alley are exposed to both front and flanks which pretty much causes them to halt in place and camp. IMO the map needs to be changed dramatically, removing a bit of the hilltop cover so that it's far more exposed to fire from the ground but with a slight ridge so that vehicles sniping down from above are more exposed (can't utilize as much hull down cover). The north needs two avenues of approach just as the south does. The buildings blocking the alley need to be reduced to navigable rubble. Enough to offer tanks fighting the alley to avoid most shots at their flanks if they push, but which faster moving tanks can drive over (fully exposing themselves) to engage campers sitting in the alley. The buildings covering the encounter cap need to be removed entirely.
I don't play at high tiers (> Tier 8) yet, but I get the impression it may play out rather differently between Tier 2 and Tier 10. At Tier 2, view range is so poor that if you take the railroad tracks you're just walking into an ambush of players waiting for you, so people camp at both ends of those tracks much like the field at Malinovka. Same goes for the central park - it's a killing ground with people waiting on the sides. 8th St. is where people slug it out until most on both sides are dead. The hill is where there's enough room and enough chaos in the terrain for some lateral movement to happen. At higher tiers, where everyone sees so much farther, and moves so much faster, it's a different proposition. Pushing the tracks or 3rd St. becomes easier when you can see the enemies waiting to ambush you. The hill has less room to move , relatively speaking, since the tanks are moving faster.
don't disagree with the approach but how many times does your team just go and camp on the train tracks? then you lose the hill AND the other flank. I'd say it's the push which is the important issue
How I play World of Tanks Normally I push tank alley because I'm able to do that better This isn't about the tracks, it just shows if you can push a side before they win the hill it's an easy win
lol, I suspect all the people in the closed beta were past my puny tier 2-3 tanks at the time. So it was then just a bunch of noobs running around in Panzer 2s and Pz 3 Ausf As.
Finally someone who understands typical pubbie metas aren't always correct. Can't count the number of players who blame the loss of the game on hill for Himmelsdorf. Going to 'unorthodox' positions is what wins games these days because it throws off everyone's gameplan when they expect "the heavies go here, meds there, etc." And it's always the our unicum/bluenicums fault the team loses! kappa... GG pubstar youtubers
Nah, he's just trapped in the typical unicum mindset "if I can pull this off, everybody can." Newsflash: no, in most pub games your teammates can't. Unicums may be able to carry some games, but that doesn't mean that "hill wins" is wrong for most pub games.
I don't know how many times did I take a platoon down the rail yard and I get two or three Robo pingers just going crazy pointing out the hill. great analysis on this one
As you said: The hill mostly won the game but now, with traffic jams on top, everyone getting in each others way, this is no longer true. You can see a shift of "winning sides" on most maps, like Abbey, where, all of a sudden, cat and dog runs along the river side. Nobody goes to the field in Pilsen or Ensk anymore. Scouts are running around in cities, etc . . . One fine day, the hill on Himmelsdorf will be deserted and all is reversed again - the key is to keep up with the flow. I for one, value the high ground and have divided maps into clockwise and anti-clockwise ones, since most maps play differently from different spawns. The real challenge is to find a good position when both flanks have crumbled . . again.
Yo Lemming, love the videos bro, they are always informative and appreciate you work! Personally, i position myself on this map according to what my team does and what I'm playing. I love my American mediums for the gun depression, and generally play support tanks. However, i completely agree with you that hill DOES NOT win the games. A week ago I played on himmelsdorf in my M46KR in tier 9 battle (we were north spawn). The team did their thing, split up on rail lines and the "banana" (heavy tank lane) and I went up to hill with a T-54 to hold back the enemy team on hill (I was hull down at the back ridge, the T-54 was behind the castle in a somewhat hull down). It was a 4v6 on the hill originally, but our T-69 and AMX-13-75 pretty much suicided in the first 30seconds... so it ended up as a 2v6... and most of the enemy on hill were tier 8, they could have easily pushed and beaten us, yet they didn't which threw the game as my team did exactly what happened in your replay, pushed the 'lower ground' & capped to disorientate them and than the T-54 and myself (both still on reasonable HP) pushed into them to clean them up... I admit, I am no unicum (1500 WN8 in last 1000 battles) but 80% of the time, winning in randoms depends how well your term co-operates with one another (i.e. pushing, defending, re-locating etc.) and whether the players are competent in the first place...
In standard matches I often find that tanks on the hill, just end up not being able to take part in the decisive fights. Himmelsdorf Encounter is a different story though. My guess is, that many of the players who go on in chat about the hill in standard matches, don't fully understand how big a tactical difference there is between standard and encounter games.
While it is true that the hill does not assure victory it certainly is a much higher percentage play than you make it out to be. To run the tracks and get the push you have described here you 1) must have enough good players that know how to push in fast tanks (as you stated in this video), 2) have an enemy team that does not put up much of a defense on the tracks (which is what happened in this particular match) and 3) put up enough of a defense on the hill to allow your team time to flank and take control of the base (which your team did). If everyone rolls the tracks and the other team puts up enough resistance to slow your advance the enemy could roll over the hill into your base and you would be the one getting capped/flanked. There are certainly alternate strategies, I have seen many successful pushes down the 8 line as well because one team simply out heavied the other. The hill is not a 100% guarantee of a victory but more times than not it is key to winning on this map. That said it is not impossible to win rolling the 8 line or the tracks either.
One youtuber who I actually like quite a bit said, "If you're in a tank on Himmelsdorf that goes faster than 20kph, hill." That didn't feel right to me even with my lack of skill. I've tried to do a run of hill battles over and over just to see if my getting killed there almost every time before was maybe because I just wasn't playing it enough to get the feel of it or something. Maybe I wsa just in the wrong tank for the job. Nope...compared to the rest of the map (for me) the hill is usually a nice place to die. Extremely rarely have I ever felt masterful on hill. I tend to do better on the 8 line. Good instruction, Lemming.
hey lemming did you play on the CT and if you did do i agree the micropatch to the light tanks was an unnecessary nerf? or do you think they are balanced now?
I really like the crew skill and tank equipment portion of your videos, glad you started adding these to your videos. Where the hell were you when I STARTED playing?!
Great video and great opening statement. But this video really underscores the basic strategy with 99% of the maps in WOT, not just Himmelsdorf. The hill on Himmelsdorf is a flank that shouldn't be ignored, but shouldn't be prioritized as much as it currently is. The outcome of the match highlighted in the video was as much to do with the enemy's indecisiveness as much as simply ignoring hill. If you ignore the hill, the enemy comes down around your heavies on the 8 lane and get shots into their backs. If the entire team goes to the hill, the reds will have you stuck there and pick you apart from the rest of the map or cap out. Just like every other map, every flank is important (perhaps say the beach on Overlord) and you have to win one to prevail.
#LemmingRush is this advice applied to all tanks or some tanks must go to hill for example kranvagn or if enemy has JAgdpanzer E100 on valley of death and i am in a heavy with no armor or buttom tier pls help us in acomplete guide pls thnx
There is no right side or tactic on most maps. What matters the most is having a team that knows were and when to push in a concerted manner. The biggest problem with pushing 1 and 2 on Himmelsdorf is that most teams will stay behind even though most of the enemy team has been spotted on hill. The best tactic in WoT is having the team with the least retards.
What about the poor bastards that did go hill only to sacrificed themselves for you on the hill slowing them down. If they were not there I think your speed would not have won it.
Awesome video! I laughed my ass of for all the mistakes you made on your video, trying to tell stuff XD What I found strange is that you were working on 3-marking it and you found 2400 a great result. Not trying to be arrogant, but I've done a lot more damage in some games (4190) and not even close to a 2nd mark (70%). This tank has so much potential on damage! ;)
I take the hill ONLY if our team has the MEDIUM tank advantage. However the reason we win is NOT because we TOOK the hill. It is BECAUSE THERE WERE MORE TANKS (mediums obv.) that got there first and wiped out the enemy players faster than we could get flanked. It is as you say Lemming SPEED is the topmost priority.
LemmingRush thats what i thought in the beginning but then i just duct taped that dildo and i became invisible. Its either camo or people avoid shooting me because they dont want trouble from the lgbt.
LemmingRush the purple color gives it that royal taste. Also yes because unicum. Even if you are spotted, imagine a tank coming around a corner, and there it is. A huge purple dildo swinging left and right. Its disarming. Though i forgot to say, it wont work on japanese tanks, you need an octopus leg for that. Same shit, just purple octopus leg and having "senpai" written anywhere on the tank will lead to their crew ejaculating simultaneously.
So... you showed a game where your team pushed the tracks. From my experience, and I've been around since beta, no one ever follows my push down the tracks.
Going on hill from north spawn is NOT worth it. When all tanks from north team goes to hill, they lose 80 % of the time. The south spawn can get on hill from 2 roads: 9 + 0 line, but north have only 0 line. That means south tanks can go safely behind castle from G9. But if you want to get behind castle from north you MUST cross D0 and always get shot. Also you can escape pretty easily from south because you have 2 roads, but north spawn has only one so again, you will get shot. Climb on north is much steeper too. It means you tank will climb longer and you need 10 degrees of gun depresion to go hulldown. Meanwhile, south spawn has more shallow climb. On G9/G0 you only need 6 degrees of gun depresion, so IS-7 or can easily go hull down there. Ironically though, it is easier to defend cap from north hill than south. In south base the cappers can hide behind the church, but on the north the only cover are buildings on A6. Tanks from hill have 2 line of sights to the cap from A0/B0 and they have to roads to go decap, enemies cannot obviously turn to two sides at once so they cannot cap.
really good video! hopefully this will open some people's eyes. xD happend to me once, that my teammates wanted to report me in my Skorpion G for not going hill... and btw what do you think about the Lorraine 40t as a premium?
I like to push rails with a platoon, but if you're playing solo the rails often turn into a camp-fest with a bunch of worthless TDs from both sides looking at each other and doing nothing until the hill falls and the team that won the hill rolls over them. I'd really rather not drive across open ground in front of a camping Jgpz E100 that would otherwise never accomplish anything with his tier 10 tank.
The hill on himmelsdorf count about 80% of battles...the team divided very well on part pushing and another defended...but 90% of teams dont act like this or even if they do it pretty much they fall miserably ...the atack dont succed or the defensive tanks die very fast
You're a poet, and don't even know it. XD. There always seems to be someone or another ranting about what everyone should be doing. When its all about analyzing the other team and positioning correctly. Now , if i could just do that......Great videos man!
I can't tell you how many times I get in arguments about hill....even when cap is on tracks. You were lucky you had teammates who pushed the tracks. 9.75/10 times I can not get pubbies to push that line. Tds will camp it but that's it. Great vid thanks.
There's no use of explaining Polish tomatos anything. They just suck, with some exceptions, that confirm the rule. I think they do deserve special server just for them.
I've always kinda thought that it isn't so much that you need to take the hill, as much as it is that you need to prevent the other team from exploiting it.
lol that guy at the end: "make this into a video so i can be famous!"
WISH GRANTED
I was going to say that too XD
Simple answer for him ! MAKE YOUR OWN GOD DAMN VIDEO!
Youre so alive in this video! Its so refreshing
i agree, brilliant use of humour, sarcasm etc.
That intro won the hill hands down!
LR can we have a "Just shut the fuck up" series of how to's?
+P. Clodius omfg I 2nd this notion. A "shut the fuck up" series would be dank
Brilliant Stuff Lem! Though I think I'll watch it with headphones when my 10yo is around!! :)

Amen! Most are just vanity tapes. "Look at me, look at me!"

Aenyx Nyxy yeah in my games when players do go to the rails they'll just camp by the train station

Yeap...got my attention right away. "...just shut the fuck up!"
Thanks. Every time I go west on that map in a light I always get someone ragging on me about how I didn't go slug it out on hill.

gotta love that sarcasm! GG dude....we need more vids with tactics!
Great video, I was one of those puppies...Hehe. excellent summary of how to win any map. I've been using this mindset a lot and it works. cheers

fair enough, when I don't have armor I go down and fight the lanes you show. But what if I do have armor, and have a slow tank? Same?

Hi I have a question what did you sayed 9:27 ? 1 8 ?
I said "it aorta makes sense if you're playing for wn8, it sorta makes sense to go where the enemies..."

As usual, great stuff. Cheers, thank you.

What if your in a slower tank. Would the hill be better, cause you can run down it into there base?

I'll have to try that tactic out normally people just camp 1 line and do nothing so I find it cool to see it played aggressively.
How do you set up your light tank :))
hey lemming did you play on the CT and if you did do i agree the micropatch to the light tanks was an unnecessary nerf? or do you think they are balanced now?
I just played them after their nerf, didnt have fun at all
LemmingRush yes you are right did you see quickybaby's video? If you did what do u think about making the light tanks soo much worse than the mediums
finally someone who understands about that hill is not really the key
THE INTRO IS LIT🔥🔥🔥
Ermahgerd what is ur tonk set urp
I really like the crew skill and tank equipment portion of your videos, glad you started adding these to your videos. Where the hell were you when I STARTED playing?!
what tanks should you play to gain wn8 quick
i have 1.2k wn8 but 3k recent because of my shitty past
THANKYOU!!! I have been saying this since I started playing Tanks...
Really helpful Video, thx! pls do more of those!
Chears
What I find with the hill is that either everybody goes there or nobody goes there
Very informative video. Keep up the great job.
Good example of how the meta can change over time on the same terrain.
How would you play this map on encounter then?
in encounter the hill is much more important i think... in standard game is just a waste of time if you are not in a very fast tank
I always learn a lot from your videos and I even like your sense of humor amigo! Hmu if you're trying to play in a lot of consecutive low tier games👍🤙
What about the poor bastards that did go hill only to sacrificed themselves for you on the hill slowing them down. If they were not there I think your speed would not have won it.
Lemming should I buy the 59-PATTON?
nicholas dean uhh no?
What’s your setup on this tank Lemming?? Kappa
Awesome video! I laughed my ass of for all the mistakes you made on your video, trying to tell stuff XD
What I found strange is that you were working on 3-marking it and you found 2400 a great result. Not trying to be arrogant, but I've done a lot more damage in some games (4190) and not even close to a 2nd mark (70%). This tank has so much potential on damage! ;)
Ben Flap This wasn't a great result..
How you set this tank up?
Is this a troll ._.
I love this opening sentence :D
I have been watching QB for a while now but I don't recall him saying that you should go to hill on Himelsdorf
Only one set up ? why no situational awareness on ya crew, if you have answered this be4 I missed it, I can sort of work it out maybe but not sure.
So... you showed a game where your team pushed the tracks.
Tanks from hill have 2 line of sights to the cap from A0/B0 and they have to roads to go decap, enemies cannot obviously turn to two sides at once so they cannot cap.
really good video!
hopefully this will open some people's eyes. xD
happend to me once, that my teammates wanted to report me in my Skorpion G for not going hill...
and btw what do you think about the Lorraine 40t as a premium?
Ah Bless you Lemmingrush :)
okay.. am shutting up and sitting down. please continue:-)
i always say that going all one side os a thing but not getting further is a los cease then you get em in your back
How did you set your WZ up?
Go away xd
LemmingRush Nooooo
LemmingRush its ok, im bringing ze flammenwerfer. HANS!!!!
Pls nooo
40 premium Shells and zero AP?
Usually what happens is that TDs are camping tracks and there's not much you can do before eating 750 damage.
EcchiRevenge so you play tank alley if they have too many tds on tracks :)
Meds are mobile they can choose where they want to fight
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. - Will Rogers
lemming you should be Scottish. that sarcasm is brilliant. great video!!
The only time that I put any priority on hill is in an encounter mode battle
I like to push rails with a platoon, but if you're playing solo the rails often turn into a camp-fest with a bunch of worthless TDs from both sides looking at each other and doing nothing until the hill falls and the team that won the hill rolls over them. I'd really rather not drive across open ground in front of a camping Jgpz E100 that would otherwise never accomplish anything with his tier 10 tank.
he sounded so fucking nervous at the start of the video lmao
Great video, I agree that hill is not the great flank it use to be for being aggressive.
Can i get up now?
The hill on himmelsdorf count about 80% of battles...the team divided very well on part pushing and another defended...but 90% of teams dont act like this or even if they do it pretty much they fall miserably ...the atack dont succed or the defensive tanks die very fast
hardest map for a bottom tier light tank, great video
You're a poet, and don't even know it. XD. There always seems to be someone or another ranting about what everyone should be doing. When its all about analyzing the other team and positioning correctly. Now , if i could just do that......Great videos man!
very good thinking and a fine vid thank's!
no sit. awareness?
Im happy with 445 meters
I can't tell you how many times I get in arguments about hill....even when cap is on tracks. You were lucky you had teammates who pushed the tracks. 9.75/10 times I can not get pubbies to push that line. Tds will camp it but that's it. Great vid thanks.
Hey, you should probably say how long each training session lasts. If you have a set price for a session you should say how long it is for $20
Lemmings most TRIGGERED video ever lol
maybe this works on NA server but i'd like to see you explain why the hill isnt good to polish tomatos on the EU server
Henri Liimatainen SopuliKiire on kyllä hyvä youtube videoiden tekijä!
WN8OverR9000 :DDDDD tuleppahan pelaamaan senkin trump
There's no use of explaining Polish tomatos anything. They just suck, with some exceptions, that confirm the rule. I think they do deserve special server just for them.
Ivan Markovic agreed
Ivan Markovic Your name sounds polish or whatever so how can you even say that lol
0:04 Well that scalated quickly 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That E50M at the end:GET THE FUCK OUT TO GARAGE!
how do you set up you tank? hehehe
Lemming; Make a video addressing your mod pack? What do you run?
I run vanilla client, but its a good idea for a really short vid :)
"WHAT MODS DO UNICOMS RUN TO GET THEIR STATS???" :p
Lol oh okay I thought reticle might have been a mod but just changed in Vanilla. Love the content man, you'll grow just keep it up!
I've always kinda thought that it isn't so much that you need to take the hill, as much as it is that you need to prevent the other team from exploiting it.
Thank you for opening my eyes, what you say is oh so true, your subcount has gone +1, I think I can learn a lot from you and your video's.
