This is an amazing castle. I'm from New Zealand but was on holiday there 2weeks ago. There is also a good cafe & gift shop there too so go for lunch. I was there for a month & joined English Heritage & National Trust. Within the first week I was getting in free every where. 👍

Just found out that I am a descendant of John Maxwell (my 26x Great Grandfather) and his parents the people who built this castle. I am a descendant through John 2nd Lord Kennedy (my 20x Great Grandfather), Privy Councillor Kennedy who's mum was Catherine Maxwell the Great, Great, Great Granddaughter of John Lord of Cearlaverock whose great grandfather owned this land.
John 2nd lord Kennedy was the Great, Great Grandson of Robert III, King of Scots (my 23rd Great Grandfather).
I am from Stirling, Scotland, my family have been a part of the Stewart Dynasty up until James VI moved to London so when I look through my family tree I realize that many of these people who were nobles and royalty were actually all related to each other in someway.
