- The nation's largest Protestant denomination has seen a decline in membership for years and a drop in the overall number of congregations. At the same team, the ongoing debate about women pastors in the Southern Baptist Convention is reaching a boiling point.
Former Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren recently issued a tough challenge to the SBC by calling it out for what he calls "hypocrisy" when it comes to the role of women in the church.
"Hypocrisy: the 2023 SBC will kick out churches for having a woman preach while honoring Charles Stanley, SBC president who was saved through a woman preaching!" Warren tweeted.

The homeless are still homeless, the hungry are still hungry, there are still prisoners who believe they are forgotten, the naked are still naked, and the Baptists are still arguing over whether or not women can preach. I can't for the life of me understand how anyone 2000 years after the life and death of the Apostle Paul, can still be wasting time on this. I thank the Lord that I found a denomination that allows the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of its members without regard to their body parts.

DEMOCRATS in these states that are legislating to raise the legal marriage age in those states to 16 or 18 - and it is the REPUBLICAN party that is arguing against or outright blocking the laws mandating higher ages for marriages.

Not sure which side your advocating for, but there are highly educated scholars on both sides of the debate. You can make a case for both sides using Scripture, but obviously only one side is correct.

God has used women to teach the WORD and keep it accurate as well as equal to kings in the Book of Judges before there were kings over the people. Something happened in the fall of church before the reformation I beleive stems from Rome and its constant hatred and abuse of women including its decree with King Charles of France to not teach women higher education when the first universities were created. This truly goes back to demonic attack of women to make them lesser and therefore hold back the growth of the Word and knowledge through THE woman that is mother, teacher and the strong thread woven through all successful societies. To keep women ignorant of the truth, less educated and kept from learning and teaching the Word when God had no problem with it but used whomever whenever he wanted is actually satan’s influence in the church and needs to be kicked out once and for all to fully embrace the whole Word of the Lord and role of all God’s children, all their talents and gifts God gives out to all who love him. Its just foolish and ignorant to keep oneself from the fullness of God’s heaven that could be on earth.
Many Christian men are threatened by theologically intelligent women.
Many churches are moving to principles over rules from the teachings of Jesus. There will always be a cohort who believe following lots of rules, some archaic, makes a good person.

The Bible is clear that only males may be pastors. I’m a woman and I have no problem with this rule. Will these women die if they were to follow the rules like everyone else? They are so selfish.

Women can preach because everyone can preach and share the gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as their testimonies because that is how people are won over to Jesus per scripture. Also, in the New Testament when Timothy said women should be silent in church he was referencing 1st century Jewish culture in which women were not allowed to study the Torah. Therefore, they could not teach what they did not know, and that is why they were to stay silent until they returned home to ask their husbands questions, according to Biblical scholars.

Just because Stanley got saved by the preaching of the word by a woman, doesn’t nullify the qualification of a pastor in 1 Tim 3. Could you imagine saying this about people getting saved in a bar? Should we then say all bars are okay?
Even Jesus had Mary Magdalene teach the disciples of his resurrection. But that letter to a church by Paul who also commended women as teaching in other letters is really what you’re holding onto? Have you ever noticed in many of Paul’s letters he says this is his teachings, and not a command? In fact I’ve seen the point of his command is to stop the distraction of women in the book of first Timothy, yet I’ve seen people repeatedly missed the point and use that teaching to distract from the message of the Lord being spoken fourth. I’m often asked by men, men with the belief that women shouldn’t teach, to teach them about the things of God that I’ve learned from hours a day in scripture study and prayer. I’m sure you’ve had many female teachers in your life, and you are continuously guided by women who like the many women in Scripture were given clear instruction on exactly how they were to teach. Why don’t you pray about this. Ask God to explain to you why Paul would commend women for their discipleship efforts in one letter and in another letter where the women are distracting in that region, say that women shouldn’t lead. Then ask God if that was an example of one of the many times Paul said this is his view and not a command or if it is a command. So often people say prophets hear from the Lord wrong. No, what they heard from the Lord is correct, people elevating every word from the mouth of a prophet as if it is from God is what’s incorrect.
And please don’t miss hear me. Men absolutely need to take leadership in the church and they are the head of the home. Deborah wept that there were no men that could lead as well as she. The solution isn’t that women should step down, the solution is that men need to start stepping up. If your focus is trying to stop women from teaching correctly about God, your focus is off and you’re leading no one in the right direction and your trying to stop the women who are. A Jezebel in the church can absolutely be a man. The gender of the demonizing spirit, doesn’t only attack and try to control those of the same gender. Humility is strength, men and women need to humble to God and ask God to search them so they don’t build what God never asked them to build or make rules around rules that are not a command of God. God commands that all go into all the world peaching the good news, baptizing, and doing ALL that Jesus taught including casting out demons. Don’t knock a woman off the platform God has given her when no man was ready to have it because he was more focused on debating theology rather than doing what scripture clearly says MUST be done and done in humble Christ minded unity.

After being blessed at Saddleback Church for many years, this helps explain how Pastor Rick could approve the new pastor he did. It’s heartbreaking to me how many young families will no longer participate because of this astonishingly destructive choice. God have mercy and bring this church back to Truth.
Weak theology will produce weak disciples, including pastors. When your theology is weak and unstable your life will show it.
I seek out non denominational bible believing and Jesus following churches. Man made doctrine is not for me...

The reason SBC membership has been in decline is bc we are not reaching the unsaved with the gospel!…preachers are not preaching the gospel with an evangelistic invitation. Deacons and pastor fight with each other for power. Leaders are more concerned with buildings and money than with missions. We have celebrity pastors and churches looking for likes and subscribers for their videos rather than serving and witnessing and bring in the list what ere the cost!

To go and explain the end times to people, especially non believers, is not what we are called to do. We are called to go and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. Enjoy the reduction in your membership. It's fine, people are making their own decisions, you are going your way and others are choosing a different path. Young girls don't want to have to sit on the pastor's lap OR kneel before him. Ain't America great.
He should just become a non denominational church where he doesn't have to follow their rules. Or join other evangelical churches that allow women preachers (and have long allowed them, they're not a by-product of today's feminism push).

Many former SBC churches have disaffiliated from the SBC due to the socialist and left leaning(woke) direction the convention is leaning or already has tilted! Some very large churches, baptizing new members weekly, preaching the Biblical gospel, more conservative, are thriving! I know. I have been a member, as were my parents, grandparents…going back to 1866, of one of the disaffiliated Baptist churches whose members voted unanimously to leave the SBC. We still are affiliated with our State and local associations. So, has the SBC faced the fact that members are not leaving their local churches as much as they are leaving the SBC?

I attend an Independent Baptist church . We will celebrate our 5th anniversary this fall . Three years ago, we had no building to worship in due to covid . Our building could no longer be used for meetings. Out of desperation, we had "church " in parking lots until a Southern Baptist church closed and they gave us their building and were grateful that God provided. We moved in with 40 people.
We are looking for a bigger building due to unbelievable growth . We now have 260 attendees. Our pastor preaches the KJV and we sing hymns . Our pastor did not like the SBC pushing the Critical Race Theory ( BTW , he is African American) and decided to be Independent.
Every week, we see new visitors and baptisms . 2 years ago, we sent 5 kids to church camp, thus year , we are sending 27 to youth camp.
We stand firm on God's Word without compromise.
Some people still have a strong desire for the Word of God .
Of course there is a decline. Totally expected by people who understand prophecy and escatology....., and look at the state of America.

No the christian version of baptists do not love everyone. It is dependent on how much money you have, who's your daddy, what family you came from, of course you must be white, never be seen drinking or picking up and dropping off hookers but most of all how much money you have and who you voted for and if you are racist. There is an issue I have with denominations. Those in leadership are too remote. These administrators can either get too close to legalism or way out in left field.
I could walk up to Pastors Rick, Tom, AJ, Kyle, Johnny, anytime, and speak to them directly. I couldn’t name one person the SBA leadership.
This baseless condemnation only divides the church much like our politics divide the country.
If the charge were based on law or precepts then that would be understandable. This may be a wide interpretation by Saddleback, but it does not warrant this reaction.

Overuse of passive verbs like in COL 3:19, i these 4:4 is a major error in translation, 1 Tim 5:4 says nephews and not grandchildren, hebrews 4:6 is about disobedience and not unbelief, James 1:12 is about being proven by trial not being on trial, and on and on. I am not attacking anyone who reads the KJV but you need to look at the original language which is without error. The kjv is full of error.

neither of the passages you mentioned, pertain to woman holding the office of pastor. you twist the Word and add to it. the Church is divided because of the likes of you. Now if you can make a Biblical argument for woman pastors, im all ears.

With all the trials and tribulations we get in life, i have found that Jesus brings me comfort in said tribulations. .... Jesus brings us joy and hope, knowing that He removed all of our sins at Calvary. If you need some teaching on the matter, the you tube channel, 'faith cometh by hearing' has a fine teaching series titled, 'change of mind' which helped me understand the matter.
I use to advocate for the egalitarian position because I thought complementarins were just misogynistic and sexist. Then I actually began learning the qualifications of a pastor according to what scripture was clearly instructing Christians to follow based off of God‘s ordinance.
For me as an early pastor in his 20s, I can’t explain how many times I saw female pastors in the church go down a slippery slope of advocating for feminism; then LGBTQ rights, woke politics and trans ideology.
I totally understand why people take both sides of the debate. Some think their defending women; and others don’t want to open Pandora’s box to endless leftist propaganda. The church isn’t a platform for identity politics, it’s an exposition of the Bible.
When misogyny is at the heart of a religion, when men are not held responsible for abuse, abuse will happen. Having the same imaginary friend is not grounds for trust, but rather suspect. Duh.
At some point, in life given, Hallelu YaH. One must ask themselves, do I love truth, as commanded and written, Hallelu YaH! Or do they love their religion and dogma.....

God doesn't actually care what kind of body parts you have. Funny that the SBC has been sending women to preach on the mission field since the 1800s. I'm over 70, and I was raised SBC and as a child I loved it when our missionary, Aletha Fuller, who preached in Nigeria came home on furlough and preached at our church. Women like her have done more for the cause of Christ, not to mention the personal sacrifices they made, than any of these men debating whether or not women can preach. Woe to anyone who stifles the calling of the Holy Spirit.
