- Why Transformer Rating In KVA Not In KW II Transformer Rating In VA Or KVA Or MVA Not W Or KW Or MW
One reason Motor, fan, lamp, bulb etc. which electrical equipment consumed power that equipment rated in W or KW or MW, Where as which equipment used for power generation and transmission / distribution ( generator and transformer) are rated in KVA. So, generator power generate so its rated in VA or KVA or MVA, also Transformer is doing power transmission or distribution so Transformer rating in VA or KVA or MVA and also Stabilizer or UPS transfer power so it's rating also VA or KVA or MVA.
Another reason, KVA or VA = Volt. Current and KW or W = Volt. Current. Power factor
Transformer are mainly two loss
1. Copper loss 2. Iron or core loss
Copper loss depend on Current and core loss depend on voltage i.e. total loss depends on voltage (V) and current (I) which is VA and not on load power factor (pf). So, the Transformer rating is VA or KVA or MVA.
Another reason, Transformer are manufactured without consider what type of load to be connected i.e. resistive or inductive or capacitive or combination loads. If transformer rated in W or KW or MW, there may be confusion for what type of load is connected. So, due to this transformer rated in KVA, so we can eliminate the confusion regarding the what type of load to be connected.
One of best reason which equipment power generate or transmission/ distribution that type electrical equipment rated in VA or KVA or MVA like generator, transformer, Sstabilizer, UPS.
