Thankfully, my husband recommended Reformed preachers to me about a year ago. I’m 61 and, finally, I’m truly getting fed spiritually. I can’t get enough of the Word of God being preached now. I wasn’t being fed or hearing right. I thank Jesus for my husband and for opening my ears.
I thank God for him too sister 🙏😁 So many don’t know what they are missing because they are turned off by the “Calvinist” label. We’re trying to be faithful believers not followers of Calvin. God bless you and your husband 🙏
What we hear is very important Which is why those preaching must preach from the Word of God Preach Jesus Christ Preach your love for Christ those who preach/ teach
Amen. I am look forward to these messages so full of spiritual food. I think so many people in churches are starving for the Word of God and have become so used to it that they are unaware. And this is why the church in general is in the mess it is in. But the Word of God will prevail, as will His people. Thank you and God bless Sinclair Ferguson for these precious studies. 🙏❤️🇦🇺
Jesus definitely understood the importance of what is heard in preaching For this reason He would clearly speak when answering the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and Scribes
Continually sobered to hear what I did not hear before. Staying in the Word of God. Standing on the Word of God, 8:11 “Now the seed is this: The seed is the word of God.”- standing on “good ground that brings forth fruit” (paraphrased). How we hear. Yes, to understand. Jesus said, I “might not understand”.
It is unfortunately far to easy to allow yourself to be starved and then begin the long, slow slide into not hearing correctly, or not at all. At our last church, I kept telling my family that the preacher was not preaching Christ and it wasn’t until we went elsewhere that they all, including myself, realized how starved we had become. I thank God that He let us to an amazing Reformed church that preaches Christ and the entire council of God, not just the old Testament law.
Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, 2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Matthew 15 They asked about the traditions of man He pointed them to the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD
Interesting word that, "Detachment". Sometimes the Word can be given in such a detached and ambiguous way, that it loses all relevance to the hearer. Joh_1:17 "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth CAME by Jesus Christ."
Busy seeing to one’s own mundane interests, whitewashing oneself, the thought and desires never taking flight to the heights of God’s love and Christ ‘s joy and majesty in showing us the true way of being alive- patiently, meekly, gently enduring/ bearing up and delighting in feeding His lambs, little sheep, mindless and lukewarm sheep. David sang of the blessedness of doing God’s will; now we know but have to love the Lord Jesus’ way of doing it and daily pray to be fed His bread in love.
